3.
I'm not sure whether this is the best section to post this, but here goes anyway......... My son has just bought a laptop from Amazon.fr as he wanted one with an "azerty" keyboard.  He has encountered a problem, in that Windows 7 (Home Premium 64 bit SP1) appears to offer no language option other than French.  We have bought many machines for the household over the years, but I am pretty sure that Windows normally offers a choice of language at the initial set up.......[8-)] Any thoughts please?
Going back to the original post - what's the idea behind this? Does he want the AZERTY keyboard to help him learn French?
 4. To follow on from your post - does English Windows work fully with an AZERTY keyboard? Do the E keys with accents still work?
 5.

Appears it was a cheap installation due to the budgets given for building such cheap housing
That in itself does not make it a bad installation, does it?
It doesn't have to be a bad installation just a motor running too hot which could be a dry bearing etc. In a nice air flow and et voila a small furnace. I noticed from SD's link a big variation in price so exclude the cheap ones and assume some quality and you bill doesn't look quite as bad.
So that won't happen at all with the expensive ones then?

 7. Seems to be "Le test de grossesse" and is available from the pharmacy (no experience of buying one though :-) )
 8.
What do these malicious spammers expect to gain[:(].
Cash: Your post got me a bit interested and the first thing I found on the web was this:   http://www.icsi.berkeley.edu/pubs/networking/2008-ccs-spamalytics.pdf An attempt by Berkley University to quantify how much cash is generated by these 'campaigns' The last page is the interesting one "Thus, the total daily revenue attributable to Storm’s pharmacy campaign is likely closer to $7000 (or $9500 during periods of campaign activity)." "Storm-generated pharmaceutical spam would produce roughly 3.5 million dollars of revenue in a year. This number could be even higher if spam-advertised pharmacies experience repeat business. A bit less than “millions of dollars every day”, but certainly a healthy enterprise." Quite amazing isn't it?

 10.
Re paypal payments to/from family and friends - please Jo can you point me to where you found this on the paypal website as neither I nor my daughter can find it! I find it useful to send her money (to Germany from France so all in euros) for birthday or Christmas etc via paypal but we have been doing it by her "billing" me for "goods" and her paying a % and a small fee to paypal to receive it., If we can do it more cheaply that would be great. Many thanks Mrs H
For the UK site it's here https://www.paypal-marketing.co.uk/sendmoney/index.htm costs are as follows Sending international payments from your PayPal balance or bank account is charged at 3.9% plus 20p for currency conversion, about a third of what you'd pay with other transfer providersA recent survey found PayPal to be the cheapest method for sending money abroad*. For example, compare the following rates for sending £100 overseas: Barclays £25.00 MoneyGram International £12.50 Western Union £9.80 PayPal £4.10 I think Pickles idea is probably better?
 11.
I also whipe my car steering wheel with  Detol .
If you're not doing to everthing you touch, then, I would suggest, the effect is minimal?
 12. Clearing out our newly aquired barn I found this; It appears to be a complete paper from Jeudi 4 Octobre 1962, although has suffered a bit from its 45+ years of 'rest'. I'm not particularly interested in cars, but I know there are a few on this forum who are. So, for the price of the postage, this can be yours [:)] They go for about €4 on leboncoin.fr +postage, in somewhat better condition, so this is a real bargain [:D] Unless you are passing St Junien in the near future and want to collect in person. PM me if you would like it.
 13.
Alex, I'm a cyclist too, and it's great here isn't it? But I don't feel as vulnerable on the velo; here in France most people appear to have ridden, or still ride, a bicycle, and they seem more aware of the danger posed to cyclists. It's not the same with motos.
Indeed, I agree totally. The only trouble we have ever had here was near the ferry ports, with certain people rushing back to catch their crossing (You know, the ones where the car reg tells you the age of the car :-)    )
 14.
Personally as a motorcyclist I would prefer less blind car drivers
As a car driver and keen cyclist, so would I. Why don't the goverment try and reduce the costs / waiting times for eye testing and spectacle buying? That would be more effective than a strip of hi-vis (but of course, slightly more costly)

 17.
What has happened to the search facility on this forum? Every time I try to research something it comes back with no results, is this general or am I just asking the wrong questions? [8-)]
Try this method recommended by one of the moderators (Cat?) "search string in quotes" site:http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/ Got no buttons on my edit page so can't make the link live
 18.
I know this has probably been done to death on here but I have tried to use the search and searched this catagory and can't find any up to date info on what I need to do to get a new land line/internet in my house, the telegraph pole is on the opposite side of the road aprox, 10-12m away. Can some tell me: Whom do I approach? FT English line (or is that now defunct)? Aprox, cost? Aprox time line for the installation? Is the Residence secondaire still availble for new clients? Or could someone point me in the right direction to find out online. Thank you
You may find the cost prohibitive :-( Is your house old or new? A neighbour's builder here, with a new build maison secondaire, omitted to connect the phone line when routing the electric and water under the road (phone lines on opposite side of road). France Telecom wanted in excess of 2000€ to lay the cable (apparently overhead lines are not permitted on new builds) However, on my sister's 100 year+ house there was no problem and the overhead line was duly fitted :-)
