  1. Dormant ép. 60 mm as far as I know, this relates to the thickness of the insulated plaster board you can use on the wall if the windows are fixed inside the room as opposed to inside the opening. It gives a neat finish with them both being in the same plane. You can, from some suppliers, get different thicknesses depending on the thickness of the insulation you are using.
  2. I have replaced my motorbike tyres twice, allo-pneus and 123 pneus using local fitters who kept the tyres. I looked at a mobile fitting company associated with another on line suppliers and they charged both for the fitting and for the removal of the old tyre. I have had the tyres delivered to the fitters and also to my home, have not paid extra for them keeping the tyres. Have also ordered tyres for our camping car using the company recommended fitters, no charge. I think the farmers pay about 180 euros a tonne to have their old tyres taken away.
  3. Make sure you post this info up when you review your purchase on Amazon, may help someone else avoid making the same mistake. For interest, I read their T&Cs, it states wireless for downloading reading materials, weasel wording? Send it back, easy if you are with Premium.
  4. I think admin needs to get rid of this post from viandy, see my previous one in this section. A quick google shows this to be a possible "false postive" malware ad.
  5. Have come late to this fascinating thread. Is the posted picture of interlocked poly blocks with the steel inside that form the mold for the poured concrete? Looked at the photobucket pictures and only the inside seems to be supported, not the earth side during the pouring. Amazing strength if that the case. You might also be interested to know that all your photo bucket pictures are available to view, not just the construction ones. I had a similar problem posting some recently, did not know in doing so all were then visible!!
  6. +1 for Clairs post. I use it too. Also very useful tool in it is a "clone" app. If you are in the process of changing your HDD, you can make an exact bootable copy of your old one onto the new one and just swap them over and your machine does not know the difference. Useful if you think your HDD is on its way out (old or ticking), you are installing one with bigger capacity or installing your current OS on an SSD. Saves re-installing windows, all the updates and your other software. (also no commercial interest in the company).
  7. Or to put it another way; The YAC virus (also found as YAC Search virus, YAC Cleaner, Yet Another Cleaner virus, Elex do Brasil Participações Ltda, YAC computer virus, and more) is dangerous malware categorized as scareware that is promoted as an unregistered (free) and registered (full) Microsoft Windows cleaner and optimizer tool; however, YAC is essentially considered a non-beneficial rogue Windows Optimizer and Antivirus program that participates in unethical marketing practices and performs fraudulent, non-beneficial computer scans with highly misleading results in order to create customers and collect user information using scare tactics. As always, the choice is yours!
  8. Wow, two success stories on the same day, must be Christmas.
  9. If that is so then it speaks volumes about the nature of journalism and the values of journalists. To me it speaks more about what sells newspapers and what the public want to read (biggest selling newspaper in the UK??). Another good reason not to encourage them by buying one. Have seen the first programme as a family, enjoyed it, although for todays generation the sums involved did not seem great until you adjust for inflation.
  10. In the old days when we used to read paper backed books with the authors name on, we were on the beach. Our two boys were agitated and amused at the same time. We asked why. They pointed to the detective novel my wife was reading. Non the wiser, we asked what the problem was with the PD James novel she was reading. Up till then we had never heard of the expression either. One wonders what other errors we have inoccently made.
  11. Betty I took the word ""normal"" from your original post. I have no agenda, if I am going to be cyber stalked by a friend of felines, I feel I have the right to reply. Chancer, my point exactly. Playing computer games must be so far off the horizon of all the posters that the very thought of mmorpg (massive mulitplayer on line role playing games), FPS (first person shooter) DLC (downloadable content). BF4 (Battle Field 4) as normal activities had not occurred. These games cost multi millions to develop and have a massive following - but evidently not here. Minecraft is a very peaceful building game, that is free and also has a huge following (including our two teenage sons which is why I know a little bit about this alternative world). All tongue in cheek of course, no criticism implied or implicated.
  12. Unless I missed it, it would appear that there is one thing (by it being omitted from their lists) that people are doing, MMORPG/gaming so much we take it for granted. If there are enough of us with the DLC for BF4 we should form a squad and kick some b**t on China Rising! FPS yes, but mmorpg no, neither Minecraft.
  13. You can call me Betty. The very nature of the people who contribute to this forum indicate that they have already done something that the vast majority of "normal" people in the UK have not done, ie moved and live in another country. By that test we have all done something that "normal" people don't do. Are we now opening the thread to things we would like to do or regret not having done, or perhaps regret that we have done. To the cat brigade, I have never kept an animal that has had a detrimental effect on other peoples lives, nor that is responsible for "murdering" millions of song birds each year. Cat that are trapped and taken to our local pound are killed after 8 days, an injection, POISON, otherwise they would not die. "Normal" people would not think twice about killing a bug or poisoning rats/mice.
  14. On the same news was the story of a motorist who was rammed from behind and damaged DDE equipment on the road. The other motorist legged it. Damaged car was repaired by the owners insurance. Dossier closed. 18 mths later, the DDE are after the owner for the damage done to the barriers/signs etc, in excess of 25000 euros. As the insurance company have already done their bit and closed the dossier, he will have to pay. Worth remembering if things other than your car is damaged.
  15. Chancer wrote A wind up and the connexion fell for it? I do hope so but nothing surprises me these days. Any other references? It was reported on the TF1 1300 news yesterday. JPP does not lie!
  16. To answer Rabbie's question, my reply was to indicate the things I don't do that "normal" people do. All "reality "shows are a misnomer, they are not real ie they are a lie. I don't watch them as by the very implication of their names, they are IMO not worth watching. The hysteria that has been associated with some of them would indicate that lots of "normal" people think they are real - yet another good reason to avoid them. (both the shows and the "normal" people!!) Why not Beastender etc? when by accident they flit across my screen, the characters always seem to be shouting at each other. If that is how "normal" people behave, I do not wish to be associated with their programmes, nor have our children think that is how life is lived. If you want "reality soap" get involved with your local community, its all happening there and its real!! I have lived in Scotland, if that helps. Oh and I enjoy Guiness and have even visited the factory.
  17. Never watched a "reality" TV show, Coronation Street, East Enders, X Factor, or Strictly or bought the Sun. Used the phrase "you know" (no I don't). Bred children and not taken responsibility for them. Been in debt I could not cover. I could go on, but then I don't consider myself as normal, but I know I am not normal so its OK
  18. Have you tried talking to your "conseiller" at the bank to see if you can legally cancel the cheque? It will cost money and I understand the regulations are quite strict about when you can do it. They may be able to advise.
  19. Starter a home cooked and dressed crab, all of it, just for me. Salmon fillet covered in blue cheese, wrapped in pastry, oven chips (only time of the year I eat them) carrots. Cheese. Hot Christmas pud, flaming brandy, loads of crème fraîche. Spread out over several hours.
  20. Have had two Kindles and been happy with them. However I found that the winter afternoons made getting the light in the right place difficult. Rather than an exterior lamp or shelling out over 100 for the paperlight, I bought a Nook glowlight for £49 on line from John Lewis in the UK and a friend collected it and posted it to me. The light is really quite good and works well in the lounge or in bed. Same system for loading books via Calibre as the Kindle. 2 year guarantee. I believe they were more expensive but Barnes and Noble are getting out of E readers. Could not find it for sale in France or Germany. Good stocking filler?
  21. When we had a recent problem with CA and Pacifica, we went to usual contact lady at the Bank, sat down with her and got her to ring them and sort it out. She was in a better position to debate the point with head office. They sold us the insurance so they should work for us.
  22. Wherever he is I hope he is having as big a laugh as we are at the SA Authorities who left the man on the stage next to all those world leaders doing sign language for the deaf! We thought he was particularly gifted signing in all those languages, turns out he was just waving his hand about as he thought fit. No idea who he was but he has used up mine and a few other peoples 15 minute of fame!!
  23. Read those EULAs is excellent advice. I am surprised by how many of the regular free but useful programmes I had to re-download had crafty accept boxes built in now that had nothing to do with the programme I was after but were for bloatware eg programmes that take over your task bar. So easy to just click on the accept without reading the full info. Experience is the best teacher, for me its no big deal now to reinstall. I begin to understand why many people are afraid to do anything but surf and email. One click in the wrong place and they are in a mysterious world with a computer they don't recognise!
