2. There is an internet site giving offers of employment on line. Its website address is http://www.anpe.fr I donot know exactly what type of employment is offered, but I am sure it would do you no harm to have a look.   Unfortunately it does appear to be offline at the moment, perhaps you could try it later this weekend or on Monday?
3.
We've been looking around and can only find the very basic white sockets. Does anyone know if there are any others available anywhere? Stainless steel for example?
I didn't see any of those in Leroy Merlin's. They were all white sockets the only variation on the theme being coloured surrounds. Go to http://www.leroymerlin.fr and enter the word prise in the box marked moteur de recherche at the top of the page. The results page gives three options and one is marked as having 259 listings. Click on that and you will see what I mean.
4. Marcel I had a look in Leroy Merlins. The price of sockets seem to vary a great deal. I found one labelled "Prise 2 Pole + Terre 10-16A" (presumably rated to take between 10 and 16 amps) and that was priced at €6.29. There were others that were also two pin and earth but I could not find any rating on them and they were priced as low as €2.61. Sorry I cannot be of more help to you.
5. Gay, Unless that email is from a trusted source and you actually need it, my best advice is to delete it and get rid of it.
6. Gay Have a look at this site and see if it will cure the problem for you http://www.anti-adware.net/
7. I am back over in France tomorrow, so will have a look in Leroy Merlin's and see what their prices are.
8. You are exempt from paying the TV licence fee in France PROVIDED you meet ALL of the following conditions. 1. You are over 65 on the 1st January of the relevant year. 2. Paid NO income tax in the previous year AND live alone OR with other people in the same situation.
9. You could also try Leroy Merlins. A list of their stores can be found here http://www.leroymerlin.fr/mpng2-front/pre?zone=zonemagasin&shoppublictodo=recherche-magasin&pageid=1
10. Having seen this post, I paid a visit to Leroy Merlin's in Dunkerque this afternoon as I was over on one of my coach trips again. The only 200mm flue sectionsI could find there was the rigid product and each piece WAS expensive. The magasin at Dunkerque also stocked flexible but this was of the 150mm internal diameter variety. I made a note of the descriptions of both ie. tubage rigide and tubage flexible and have just check the Leroy Merlin website - they do not list any item using the word tubage let alone the full description. So apart from from Bob's reply, I do not know what else to suggest apart from using "shank's pony" and paying a visit to these magasins. I'm sorry that I cannot be of more help to you.
11. Just as an aside, if Olive is going to be eating her Christmas dinner in France, where is Dave going to be eating his???
12. I have just checked the BF website Routes show are: Portsmouth to CaenPortsmouth to St MaloPortsmouth to Cherbourg NEW! for Spring 2004Poole to CherbourgPlymouth to RoscoffPlymouth to SantanderCork to Roscoff   I then did a test booking for mid week travel to St Malo with an outside cabin to check the cost. This is what I got back Price Breakdown  Outbound FerryNumber PriceVehicle and Passengers   135.00 GBPOutside 2 berth cabin with shower and WC1     49.00  GBP  Inbound FerryNumber PriceVehicle and Passengers   111.00 GBPOutside 2 berth cabin with shower and WC1     25.00  GBP  Total 320.00 GBPOnline Saving -5.00 GBPOnline Total 315.00 GBP   Can someone enlighten me as to why a cabin on the outbound leg is £24.00 dearer than on the return leg? Oh and aren't they generous with their HUGE discount for booking online? Somehow I think not. When I next return to the Brittany/Normandy area, I will be using Speedferries and will enjoy the four drive from Boulogne.
13. Good evening Graham Have just returned home from France and yes I did visit Leroy Merlin's at Dunkerque. They DO sell an oval headed handle. It is described as a "Manche Triangular Frene Hache" and it measures 7.5cm x 3.5cm for the eye and is 1 metre long. Price of said handle is €8.90. I appreciate that you don't live anywhere near one of Leroy Merlin's branches, but perhaps the description may assist in trying to locate one locally?   PS. Just a thought, is one metre a bit short for a pick axe handle?
14. No problem - will have a look for you tomorrow.

16. Quote: I find it a lot faster than mozilla and netscape, and of course it's free - unlike Opera.  Opera comes in two flavours - the free version has advertisment sponsorship at the top right of the browser but still retains full functionality. The purchased version does not have the adverts.
17. Good evening Graham Have you tried Leroy Merlin's? They definitely sell pick axes as can be seen here http://www.leroymerlin.fr/mpng2-front/pre?zone=zonecatalogue&idLSPub=1048595701&1043163847.idnode=4683917&02-multicritere-render=off&01-comment-choisir-render=on&03-zoom-produit-render=off&04-selectionne-pour-vous-render=off&09-Q2Q-render=off so I presume that they will sell the handles separately as well. I am in Dunkerque tomorrow (Saturday) and need to go to the Leroy Merlin's there, so if I think on I will take a look for the handles and let you know what i find.
18.
Just had a look and it doesn't say anything about having to upgrade the Free edition on this pagehttp://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/I think it would if there was a problem.
Unfortunately Gay it does on Grisoft's home page. To get AVG 7.0 Free edition, you follow the instructions given on the page that Gay has given the link to above. In that way you will still receive your free antivirus protection.
19. One can always check the DVLA site here http://www.dvla.gov.uk
20. From information sourced from another site: The rules regarding CGT changed in January 2004 and this apparently was the position in March 2004. You are exempt from French CGT if you are in receipt of an old age pension or are an invalid. This applies even if you are a non-resident. This is subject to some fairly detailed conditions set out in the tax code. There are a number of other more detailed exemptions. The main residence exemption which is similar to the UK one and which can only apply if you are French resident appears below. And with a bit of further research have conifrmed it word for word here: http://www.sykesanderson.com/articles/french_cgt_rules_2004.asp
21. Alexis - would this be their site? http://www.maison-travaux.fr/
22. Quote Alexis "The windows seem to slope in four different directions at once!" I would have loved to have seen that!!!
23. Good evening Deby Yes I did see that programme last night and like with other such programmes that I have seen on this subject - I cringed!!! I will not say why at this stage but will watch their progress as the time goes on. Did you also see Grand Designs?
24.
Watched Grand Designs in Haute - Savoie (sp?). So this is how the other half lives (nearest to envy I can find). Hmm - interesting costing - wonder if the finished article will be worth the cost. ...
In answer to your question re costs etc have a look here http://www.channel4.com/4homes/ontv/grand-designs/grand-designs-abroad/les-gets.html
25. The link for "Les Gets" is http://www.channel4.com/4homes/ontv/grand-designs/grand-designs-abroad/les-gets.html On page 7 it gives a list of the service and suppliers - unfortunately not a mention of those plaster blocks, As for the lawyers who have bought the chateau in the Haute Vienne, I did watch that and it will be interesting to see how it progresses.
