The prospect of truck loads of loonies turning up on my doorstep would worry me too. Perhaps a business opportunity for a Hospital of St Mary of Bugarach? John

Perhaps Vince Cable should take up dancing full time ?

Until now I was a great admirer of VC. Sadly he seems to have succumbed to that which afflicts most, if not all, MPs - he loves the sound of his own voice and wants to appear more significant than he really is. The problem now facing DC is that if he does what he should really do, sack VC, he risks losing a vote of No Confidence and then losing his own job. John -
Making the move - what assistance is there?
Iceni replied to josa's topic in Finding/Owning French Property
So if I took my 4 ton digger there and my little tractor with grass topper, I could set up as an AE doing some digging, grass cutting etc and would have my health costs covered by way of the AE Taxes, which would be lower that medical insurance, even if my actual sales were minimal or even nil? Seems a bit of a dodge?
Not a bit of a dodge at all. If the govt legislation is so badly framed that is hardly your fault. John -

At The Races (channel 415) yesterday with no racing in UK or Ireland was an APMcC tribute fest with all the usual suspects interviewed at length. If only all that well meaning hot air could be directed towards Kempton [:D] John -
King George on Boxing Day Welsh National on 27th Lexus on 28th I have planned but I don't have to do - no tree or other decorations to bother with, no presents to buy (I bought mine for me some time ago + an Air Fryer for Di to replace the SEB/Tefal that keeps breaking) - just snigger at those spending money they don't have on gifts that are not needed for people who don't deserve them anyway. E. Scrooge lives on

Easy, peasy - won by several distances. John -
Ernie, this reminds me of an IT meeting held at MoD, Farnborough to discuss plans for Disaster Recovery. "We're halfway there" "What do you mean?" "We're ready for a disaster" John
Do adults really watch the Simpsons???? I thought it was a childrens cartoon.
I am hopelessly hooked on it - anything that pokes fun at Rupert Murdoch is fine by me. John
I feel a bit like the poor bloke at the North Pole - "I may be gone for some time".
What a coincidence!!! Captain Oates said something similar on an expedition to the S Pole[6] John -
Should I be outraged?

Those of us old enough to remember Beautiful South will recall the single "Don't marry her, have me" rather than the album version "... fcuk me". Who is pretending to fool whom? If that is not too elitist to ask. John -
One's inability to type should not be confused with one's inability to spell. John 8:7
Well seems rational...they only have to be competent in add, subtract, multiply and divide.
For that you only need a calculator. John

wb - I was one of those chaps though ACCA rather than ICAEW - I did not fancy being an indentured slave. John
whereas their counterparts in UK seem to be minimum wage jobsworths without much of a clue. Are you implying that a person having followed a "neuronal rest cure" at a minor breeze block UK University would do any better?
Where do you think Border Control (joke) finds its minimum wage jobsworths if not former polytechnics? I find rolling them the most difficult part even with a little machine and ready rolled mops are a bu##er to light. John
Shame it's taken a National to get him this far.
Agree totally - leading conditional jockey and then champion jockey 14 times counted for nothing until he won in Liverpool. And he was still jocked off Master Minded yesterday. John -
I know that in airline speak "London" covers a wide area but Southampton ? John

The England/South Africa team is playing with far more confidence - sending in the openers for just the 1 over before end of day would have been unheard of at one time. But the series has not been won yet, nor has the match for that matter. An overnight declaration will allow the English bowlers plenty of time to get them out and the weather will play its part. John

The kindle
Iceni replied to Mr Coeur de Lion's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
IMHO one of the pre-requisites for running a successful business is making it easy for the customer to spend his/her money. And Amazon certainly does that for Kindle books, though one has to be careful with 1-click anything. Now to start looking at freebies. John -
I have taken someone through the withdrawal from heroin and can see no solution without taking out the significant dealers at the end of a rope!
As a deal requires both a buyer and a seller that suggested solution would kill several birds with just 1 stone, if you will pardon the mixed metaphors. John
Why oh why do we get this comparison with fags and booze every time there is a discussion about pot, heroin, cocaine and other drugs.
Perhaps because they are drugs and many people are addicted? John
-
I admit to being a regular drug taker, several glasses every night though I don't think I am addicted. Having seen both my parents die from the effects of the other freely available and legal drug of choice for most, tobacco, I am glad that I have never been a cigarette smoker. But of course these are not proper drugs are they? John
