  2. Thank you Lehaut, most interesting and a sensible pragmatic approach. The UK case was a put up job by extremists who are constantly trying to push their agenda.
  3. Albf, I just love the idea of being an expiring snooker player.🤪
  4. A quick Google search says yes. I think the difference with the UK case was the mother wanted a special space set aside for the activity. https://clerc-avocat.fr/2023/06/25/a-t-on-le-droit-de-prier-a-lecole/#:~:text=OUI,aux libertés des autres élèves.
  5. Well, believe it or not I was an expiring snooker and pool player when I younger and was only interested in becoming professional. But university got in the way and that was it. But I am still a snooker geek. I used to play pool in France in a team and reached the dizzy heights of being Number 56 out of 10,000 players in my first season. Then I injured my shoulder….and my career in pool and snooker ended. I could have easily become no 1 had it not been for the injury. I have a full size snooker table in my house but I can’t play anymore…so I will dismantle it. When I am ready to say goodbye. Anyway, back to the final. Jones lost the final in the first two sessions. He was knackered from the previous day I guess. Had he not fallen so far behind on Sunday……I think the final was his to win. Loverly player to watch. Really like his style. Kyren is an excellent player but boring to watch. At the end of the day, the best player of the week one. So that is fair enough.

  7. Well done Kyren Wilson. Deserved. Jones got too far behind in the first session and was never really in with a chance after that. The fact that he pretty much shared (or even won) the remainder of the frames is a credit to him. For us, it’s always enjoyable, even though this probably wasn’t the most exciting Final. Has anybody on here ever played much snooker? It’s a blooming hard game.
  8. I see that this problem has raised its head in the UK but was wondering whether Muslim students have the right to pray during school hours? And where? Or does laicism not permit it?
  9. Could not agree more, this was taken on Colonsay two years ago in June staying with my wife's cousin who, with her husband, are the medical team there. The thing to notice is there is no one in the sea! The beaches may be great, but its wet suit water if you want to go swimming!!
  10. Last week
  11. The best beaches in the EU are in Scotland….or maybe further north. I would rather stick pins in my eyes than get sunburned in Arcahon….with all the other plucks. The Guardian..what a senseless waste of time. They will be telling us next that Paris is the city of love.
  12. it has been hot or too rainy. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/article/2024/may/05/europes-best-beach-holidays-arcachon-france

    On the flat

Very pretty Lehaut. France has so many beautiful regions. Seems almost endless.

    On the flat

Lovely pictures. Know the area well as I've family in Varades and normally stay in the logis at Montjean. Beautiful part of the country.

    On the flat

Having spent the last 12 years zooming round France and Europe on a motorbike, I was a bit disappointed when we moved to Nantes as it, and the surrounding countryside, is flat. Having only take up cycling in the last 18 months, I have had to review my position as flat is much better on a pedal bike! Just come back from a week cycling round Angers. At a confluence of three rivers it gave some beautiful and interesting trails to explore, not to mention a different boulangère to try each day for their lunches and pastries (fuel!). Got to hear hoopoes, but could not see them, but saw two kingfishers and two golden orioles. Got a great app on my phone which IDs bird calls. Only an hour up the road from where we live, but well worth exploring. Part of the bike trail to Bouchemaine One of the art works dotted all along the Loire Ruins of the Mine de charbon at Montjean sur Loire
  16. Yes, Lori, agreed entirely; formal training starts after my daughter’s dog leaves after the weekend.
  17. Ah, well if you want her to stay off the sofa, you'd better start training her now to use her own bed. 😉 We did that with our Collie as we had a new sofa that we didn't want stained. He got used to using his own bed.
  18. Does she not have her own doggie bed ?
  19. Has only been at the house a day and she has found her creature comforts!
  20. We applied to renew our passports online from France using photos we'd taken on our phones 15 days ago. The new ones arrived today and we were kept informed throughout by email and text about progress. Compared to my 18 months to exchange a UK driving licence for a French one it was a brilliant service.
  21. Black lab or cross, four years old, was owned by an old lady now deceased. Our first night was a little unsettled but she is definitely a seeker after comfort as she took over the sofa in the evening, must have done it before, I guess. Also prefers women, we think and my grandson who has a natural gift with animals which are seriously drawn to him. A bit nervous outside so does not seem to have had much exterior experience, nor walking as she is terrible on the lead.
  22. Menthe, that is certainly true, about his clothes .. but as the last ranked player standing, you would expect so, but this year, nothing can be assumed I think!
  23. Yes, Gardian, I hope it will be Bingham. I'd rather him than Kyren Wilson. Maybe his waistcoat will be stretched beyond restraint before his trousers? He's certainly fatter than when I last watched him😂
  24. For me, Stuart Bingham to win it. Very worried about the breaking strain on his trousers though.
  25. I've only popped in now and then, Menthe, but it's good to see that the experienced heads don't wine everytime, even when we know experience helps. There have certainly been some serious upsets this year .. all makes for more entertaining TV!
  26. Apart from getting all the figures I need from OH, I long ago gave up getting him involved - it's much safer that way!
