  1. Yesterday
  2. Although, one has to say, with one of the best theme tunes in the last decade.
  3. Last week
  4. Yes, the BAFTA’’s are horrible, are they not? This time of the year is just a succession of award shows and Bank Holidays. Am I grumpy ? Me ? Not at all.
  5. Not sure whether this will change your mind. Another version of this years UK's Eurovision entry.
  6. And tonight the BBC is insulting us with the BAFTA horror show, a kind of luvvies self congratulation through mutual mast**bashun(sic) and quite a bit of jealousy!
  7. Just a thought ........... everybody who has commented on here so far has been totally anti yesterday’s nonsense. Are there any dissenting, or rather, supportive views ? If there are, then do say so. Nobody is going to jump down your throat !!!
  8. I think that ship has sailed. As someone who learnt their first rap over 45 years ago, I've never really considered it music either. More like rhythmical poetry.
  9. Talking of music...........I wish people would stop putting the words "rap" and "music" in the same phrase. IMHO rap is not music, it is not even a sound it is a noise!! Just sayin' 🙂 Many of my generation (no reference to the Who song🙂) learned to play instruments, played in bands and wrote songs with meaningful content. Not sure what is happening these days
  10. I haven't watched it since they stopped singing songs with any element of true musicality in them - ones you could sing along to without the whole backing band, without anything but the simplest of settings (and which are still sung today as it happens). Today they are judging the scenery IMHO from what I saw of the pre-pub (unavoidable even when watching the News!). Happily, I always have better things to do than watch a whole load of TV, and if we are really stuck, there's always a DVD or video - yes, we are still in the dark ages here .. even reading a book would have been preferable to watching the junk that passes for popular music these days!!
  11. Not this time I suspect. For a start both the Netherlands and Belgium broadcasters are seriously pi55ed off by the attitude of the Eurovision chief Martin Osterdahl. Secondly participating artists are already coming forward with stories of the toxic atmosphere backstage. The E.B.U. are monetizing Eurovision like crazy yet still expecting the PSB's to pay the costs of hosting ( or even participating in ) the event. As you say,it's all about the money, and why should public service broadcasters fork out for a show that you can watch, for free, live on YouTube.
  12. These organisations have a history of lingering on and on and on and on mainly because those involvedhave a nice little earner that they are reluctant to give up. I call it civil servant syndrome. Maybe there will be a return to Jeux Sans Frontières!🙀
  13. I agree regarding Doctor Who. As far as Eurovision is concerned, I reckon that's the last one we'll ever see. Considering what was going behind the scenes, I surprised it made it to air at all. You shouldn't have to threaten artists to make them go out on stage. Petra Mede's an old hand but you could see the tension in her face throughout the entire show. Even Graham Norton sounded like he was commentating on a funeral. Like it or not the LGBT community have been propping up the show for years. By treating them ( and their artists ) with contempt, Eurovision have just lost their last major audience. I predict a rival company ( Netflix? ) will come up with something similar in the near future and Eurovision ( and possibly even the E.B.U. ) will be consigned to the trash. Frankly, after this week, they deserve it.
  14. Vote Brexit…oooh hang on that has been done. Everyone wants to live in the UK to escape the the EU… beacuse we are the coolest peeps on the planet…and we have pubs….…but they can’t vote for our f****** song.. Lol. Can I remind them of all the best music ever created was from the UK. The Eurovision……is for peeps that don’t have a life. Doctor who is just BBC a woke affair. The world has gone mAd. The Eurovision is an embarrassment.
  15. Simply ghastly - preceded by the almost as absurd Dr Who. We’d kept a couple of pre-recorded items ‘in the can’ for moments such as this.
  16. What a waste or time and resources; puerile, samey songs and sets, ridiculous performers, ridiculous costumes (or lack of them!) and far too much grotesque LGBTV emphasis. With Suits as one alternative (BBC3) which was at best a parody of a parody.
  17. Slightly annoyed that I missed nature's great light show last night. On the plus side it's been very quiet this morning and there are some nice new plants arrived in the garden. .
  18. My nephew, In Cambridgeshire, took some glorious photos of them!
  19. Loiseau, the mind boggles over ‘electrical perturbation’!😜😵‍💫
  20. Looks like we are in for some spectacular lights this weekend - and also a bit of electrical perturbation… https://www.ouest-france.fr/sciences/une-tempete-solaire-dune-rare-intensite-se-dirige-vers-la-terre-ccf9b26c-a149-4f54-a6ab-a0759234cb8e
  21. You can fool some of the people some of the time …….. https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/lifestyle/china-zoo-panda-dogs-paint-b2542561.html
  22. We are cyclists, having taken up the sport some 20 months ago. I fully agree with you! We wear high viz kit, helmets, stick to the rules, even put our arms out horizontally to indicate which way we are turning (which takes a bit of skill on a roundabout). We go out 3 times a week (going off to La Baule this morning and up to Le Croisic). I try to plan the routes that keep us off main roads and more cycle lanes and cross country trails. If it was up to me, cyclists would have the same points taken off their Permis as motorists for their blatant disregard of the Code. We are all on the road and have to obey the same rules. As for cyclists when I am driving, I have installed a Dash Cam to provide me with some sort of evidence for cyclists behaviour.
  23. That’s so interesting, Lehaut. And sobering.
  24. OK, from the start I know that this is going to upset a number of you out there. Sorry, but this is the way I see it. First of all, the good guys. Serious ‘club’ cyclists, maybe a dozen or more of them, almost always in single file, often with a few gaps in between them for you to duck in if needs be. Then the solo biker, helmeted with hi-viz, understanding when you hold back on overtaking on a ‘blind’ bend. Now the horrors ! The holiday season is upon us, although these people can infest the roads at any time. I came round a corner the other day to be faced with three 50yo maniacs three abreast ! Drastic evasive action. Then the elderly couples on holiday - both about 70 (“we haven’t been on a bike for years, eh?”) without any casquette or hi-viz. Wobbling bikes and trajectory. I could go on, but you get my drift. The roads around here are narrow and even car vs car has to be treated with a bit of care. However, if you hit a cyclist, there’s only one person who’s going to be blamed. Right, flak will doubtless start, but just maybe some will take my point.
  25. No surprise really. The only surprise is just how many people over here seem to completely ignore the requirements - probably because they know full well that their clapped out white van, builder’s lorry on which nothing works, or ‘sans permis’ thing, wouldn’t have a chance of getting through a CT. They’d be right, because in my experience the process is very thorough and professional. As regards motorbikes, I am at a loss to understand why anything on the public road should not be liable to a periodic safety check. From my viewpoint, the vast majority would have no compliance issues whatsoever.
  26. Came across this story in a French paper, not one I had come read before. It puts those who wrote the articles encouraging GIs to fight in France in a very different light. https://france3-regions.francetvinfo.fr/bretagne/finistere/brest/grand-tabou-de-la-seconde-guerre-mondiale-des-bretonnes-temoignent-des-viols-commis-par-les-soldats-americains-a-la-liberation-2965511.html
