How to get heaps of responses on your thread?

Am curious, some threads would not have at all or very few responses, but some threads would go on and on for pages even.

So what do you think what has to be there in the thread(s) to get heaps of responses?
To get the dialogue going, that is.

Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

The huge erections , may prevent some members falling out of bed!

One of the things that turns many members here right off instantly, is to feel they have been used, that is why active contribution to a thread by the original poster works best, IMHO.

In what subject are hoping to gain further academic qualifications?

I didn't think nor intend it to be that way, but can understand that point of view.

Apologies then, no harm intended.

From what I've seen as an active member even a mod once in Japan and Singapore when I lived there, the online communities' members who are mostly non-locals in these countries, mostly exchange info, collaborate, help each other, etc. And I suppose it would be interesting to observe how the exchange of info as part of learning from each other works here for example, in terms of topics and how the dialogue is done.
