Gardian
No gravy, but glad you mentioned the onions: a highly desirable extra.I probably do have a cast iron stomach; it goes with a thick skin.A pal of mine always says that if you ever get (shall we put it politely?) stomach problems, there's nothing like a good curry washed down with a few brandies. Kill or cure.
Gunner
Mint Sauce! We cooked Roast Lamb & served it with mint sauce and now our french friends eat mint sauce with everything, including salad & pasta. Yuk! They get through a jar a week. Oh & they love cheesecake too. Just Katie
Don't give them porridge. It makes them laugh. A young french girl stayed with me at christmas. Introduced her to HP. Got put on everything and when asked what her favourite think about UK was, she replied HP.

Fay
Sorry Gluestick, taking this a tad off topic - is the beach nice at Merlimont? I'm a bit further down, on the Baie de Somme, and am 'researching' good beaches in optimistic anticipation of summer. Sand is in short suppy nearby... Not keen on big resorts like Berck - Quend-les-Pins seems a good possibility but Merlimont's not too far, and the seafood place sounds tempting.... 'Fraid all I know of Merlimont right now is the Leroy-Merlin!Back on topic, have just this weekend taken my neighbours some Keen's (or was it Montgomery's? anyway, really top stuff) Cheddar and some Cashel Blue - won't know what they thought of them til end-May though. Gluestick
Fay, all the beaches around us are fantastic. Stella Plage is also excellent and fairly quiet. I do agree about Berck. Apart from one fabulous eatery, the name of which escapes me presently (it's on the NI heading towards Montreuil on the way out) and a great Carrefour, I find Berck a bit Blackpool for my taste.Merlimont is also quiet: apart from the people in the season, but the beach is so large there is normally loads of space. You can't miss the fish place: right on the beach: turn right as you arrive at the Prom and it's a short way along. Very busy with lots of locals eating Moules frittes so a good idea to book, unless you arrive early.
Bassman
Traditional cold stuff, Bassman? Real Melton Mowbray pork pie? Real Cornish pasties, with meat and carrot one end and jam the other? York Ham? Cold sausage and onion pie? Off topic, what's the car meet? (Gluestick smacks own wrist** for going off topic![6]).By Merlimont, is it the place in the Pas de Calais, near us? Great seafood and poisson place there, right on the beach! Yummy! I Can't wait for Summer again.[B]
Sorry about the delay in replying we have been in Brittany getting to grips with French plumbing[:-))] All done now house is finished .... well inside it is [:D] our French neighbour was most impressed that I did my own plumbing etc [:)] anyway back OT.. The car meet is for .... Ford Probes [:$] I am involved in running the UK club and have built up a great relationship with the French club over the last few years, Yes it is Merlimont in the Pas de Calais...lovely place Fil the French club president used to have a Pizza place there and there is an annual club meet held there, last year it tied in with a classic car rally at LeTouquethttp://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v69/Bassman/MERLIMONT%20III/?start=0 Traditional cold stuff sounds like the sort of stuff [;-)] could be a bit tricky serving roast beef and Yorkshire pud out of the back of a car [:D] LOL could be stuff to barbecue as well as they French guys usually fire a few up at meets[;-)]
Gluestick
Ford Probes? Well, I suppose someone has to! <Grin!>.[:)]Like the pic of the Ferrari Dino 246GT, though! And right colour, too.Had a problem a few years back: broke down on the pererifique in Caen: bolt broke on alternator adjustment. Managed to find a small garage. Guy couldn't do enough. Transpired he was the top restorer of old US cars (50s-70s) in France! Workshop was full of 'em!
I always say the Probe should have been named " the Ford Marmite" cos' people either love 'em or hate 'em[:-))] I'm on my second now, always loved the style but couldn't afford one till the prices fell through the floor[;-)] I have to say in 30 odd (very odd) years and 30 odd cars ( again some very odd) of car ownership they have been the best thing I have owned fast, smooth and very comfortable, I have a new Renault Scenic as well and for a long trip the Probe is far more comfy [:D] Still the Scenic is being replaced soon with a Jag XK8 (another of my dream cars) now I can just about afford one [:D] The Dino was lovely and some of the old Yanks were stunning [:D] When MOH worked for Ferrari I got to take a 360 round Goodwood for a few laps.... oh if only [;-)] I did suggest to Patti that we buy one instead of the house in Brittany.... bet you can imagine how that went down [;-)]
Gluestick
At the risk of being told off by the Mods, [;-)] I'll continue on cars, for a bit.I hav always loved the Dino 246. I used to drive one quite a bit in the early 70s. In fact, probably hold the record for the highest illegal speed within the local 30 MPH limit! Has to be in perpetuity, now, as speed bumps installed up the hill! Yes, it was up the hill!Used to prefer the Dino to a 911: much more drivable car and super-responsive handling.Used to drive a Lambo Espada quite a bit in that era: fantastic fun, but not as nimble as the Dino. These days, I'm very respectable and slow (ish!).Apparently, it's now impossible to source panels for the Probe? Ford have stopped supporting body spares? Chatting this AM early, to chum who has an Audi Quattro rally car; body bits for this are now all but dried up.Apparently, rear skirt panel is circa £800+ if you can find one! he doesn't drive on the public roads too much now.
Hmmmm Ford have stopped supporting them full stop pretty much [:@] because they were pretty expensive for a Ford they didn't sell that many and Ford want to forget about them[;-)] A couple of years ago I managed to buy a brand new bonnet and both front wings for £20 each off eBay(they are sitting in my garage just in case ) if I see any new parts going at a reasonable price I snap them up [:-))] I used to do the same when I had old Sunbeam Alpines a few years ago. Also a friend of mine runs an online shop ( Probestore) that specialises in the car and there is a better supply of parts and accessories available from America as they sold bucket loads there (they were all built at the Auto Alliance factory at Flat Rock) The other thing is that they are really Mazda's MX6 and 626 under the skin so that is a source of mechanical parts.Having said all that I think the UK is better off than France for Probe parts as I regularly buy parts and bring them over for French friends. things like exhausts and catalytic converters[;-)]
