Posting a photo in a message

Claire I've tried to enlarge my last screenshot - Am I stupid  or are they not there [:D]???

I am beginning to wonder if this is why so many people have problems when posting photos - or am I the only one ?

I am not aware that many people are having problems posting pictures [8-)] and the photography section of the forum seems to show they don't.

Everybody seems to be able to post via Photobucket and this particular question was raised because you wanted to post from Picasa...

I have no idea why the Design/HTML icons are not visible on your screen, but I'd be curious to know if this is the case for anyone else...?

Well I agree. However,  (as I posted earlier in this thread), the Forum instructions on how to post images mention the use of design and HTML view icons - two icons that I don't seem to have.  I would be very interested too, to see if anyone else does not have them ?

What I maybe should have said in my last post is that " maybe more people would post images, if the instructions were clearer"  In fact, Kathy came up with the simple copy and paste command that seems to have solved my Picasa issue, for now.

Maybe a FAQ section would be a good idea with these new methods of  posting photos especially for new forum new users?

Could someone from Complete France or one of you mods please look into the missing icon issue please?

That link is really only for Photobucket users and does not apply to people who use Picassa. It was also written by a forum member and differs from the Complete france instructions. Not everone uses Photobucket

You need to delve further into the Forum new users section . Here is the link to the instructions I refer to;

"If you have a photo on your computer that you wish to show on this forum and it isn't currently on the web, you could open an account with an Image Hosting company which in most cases is free (such as http://www.villagephotos.com or http://www.photobucket.com). You can set up a username and password and upload images from your computer to their site so you can share them with other people on the web, these websites are easy to use with step by step instructions, but remember that your pictures will be in the public domain.

When you have uploaded an image onto their site, take note of the unique link given to each image (this is given when you upload an image) as you will need to use this.

When posting/replying, switch to the HTML view. Add the unique link they gave you using this code: <img src="http://www.example-website.com/directory/picture.jpg">
Then switch back to the Design view and your picture should be visible."

Yes but even mildly intelligent people like myself do have problems and have difficulty ! Iam convinced that many more people would love to share their photos but find the instructions confusing especially as it seems some of us are missing the relevant icons below the post box.

If only mods have these Design and HTML icons, then why are they mentioned for new users, in the aformentioned topic?  Is there anyway or anyone ( perhaps James?) who can please give a definitive answer?? I see that Christine Animal does not have these icons either so there surely must be a problem ? So can a mod please find out, from the powers that be ?

Clair referred to the instructions in one of her first posts to you - we use Photo bucket because it's really easy, free and non invasive (which I found Picasa to be) [:)] Some members seem to use Flickr without problem too, I personally like lots of google 'add ons', but not that.

I'll ask James to check the icons.

You seem to have overcome your problem now so perhaps it would help other Picasa users if you would be kind enough to contribute step by step instructions for Picassa users just as Bugbear and Dick Smith did for Photo bucket?

I would suggest that James probably thinks you see the icons too. Luckily it seems you don't need them and I have only ever used them a couple of times, once on this thread ![:)]

Thank you Gay - I'd be interested to find out about the missing icons, (as they do not only apply to photos of course.)

I'm off to bed now but will gladly post some instructions for posting photos from Picassa ( Actually all you do is copy then paste ) .

I love Picassa and have just got used to it over the years. Not only that, but it would be a pain and a shame to move thousands of images to Photobucket just for the sake of a few images.

I look forward to sharing lots of images in the Photo section.

The post in the "Just Started on the Forum" section about how to post a photo (that refers to the HTML view) was posted by James in 2004.  We've had a forum software change since then.  The HTML button, and the add link feature are now only available to forum administrators and moderators.

I'll ask James to update the post, as there are other things mentioned that need to be changed as well.

In general, if users can't find an obvious way to add a photo from one of the image hosting sites to their post, right clicking on the photo itself, and then copying and pasting into the post will work.

You can post a photo from any location. This image is hosted by me. If you use firefox, put the cursor over an image on a webpage, click the right mouse button and pick 'copy image location' and then pop back here write (IMG)(/IMG) using [] instead of () and paste the image link between  the 2 tags (IMG)http://life-in-france.the-world-in-focus.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/p1010101.jpg(/IMG) and it will appear like the image below.

That wasn't the point. The OP was trying (I think) to link to photos that were on his hard drive.

Photobucket is easier: it creates the link for you.

Nonetheless, easier just to use Photobucket. No need to transfer all photos across, just the few he wants to post on forums.

No, they search for website images as they do for any other search.

A Picasa Web Album is just a way to store or share images, as is Photobucket, but unlike Photobucket, Picasa does not create links to the pictures.

I think Picassa has edit facilities as well

There are lots of aspects of google I really like, but I have never really got on with Picassa

Picasa, as software, does have editing facilities.

I use it for basic photo editing, but I hardly ever upload to Picasa Web Album, as I have a Photobucket account that already does what I need.

Yes and No. Any image, on any website with an 'alt' or 'title' tag will get listed on Google Images, but it can take a while. If you do not want your images listed there but have them on sharing sites (flickr etc.), title and tag them with gibberish i.e. ^*^&^% if the site does not let you leave out titles and tags.

I just did a little test and true enough there were all the images from the public section of the Quimper club web site, more interesting was the fact that Dick Smiths double decker bus was in the middle of them - clicking on it linked to a thread where I had used my sig line and he had posted the bus picture, the next page showed several  forum members  avatars.........interesting......[8-)]
