1.
Does she need a mutuelle?  She has been in and out of hospital but this is covered by ALD because her illnesses are associated with her brain damage.  What would not be covered by ALD?
Normally, any treatment which is not associated with her ALD would not be covered.  For example, if she accidentally tripped over the cat and injured herself, then that would likely not be covered.  Now that she is an enfant majeur, you might want to consider speaking with your local assistant sociale to see if there are any adult benefits that she may now be entitled to.
2. [I] Brilliant!! I though I'd end up having to ask Katy our coiffeuse to get her little boy to pop in and set up the recorder for me.....[:$]
3. Having spent years enduring catering turkey served up at various Xmas corporate events, it's not one of my favourites. That said, the only decent bit of turkey I've eaten was at a business lunch at the Liberal Club in London (God, I'm sounding like Gluestick now....). Nowadays we settle for a nice rib of beef which also does us for Boxing Day cold cuts, then one of Mrs Sunday's curries to finish it off.  [:D]
4. I'm off for a naughty weekend in the wilds of Creuse and Corrèze (wedding anniversary) and I want to record Sunday's Indian Grand Prix to watch when I get home. Will my Panasonic DVD recorder automatically update itself to the new time overnight or will I have to do some complex time adjustment calculation to manually set it up for the change?
5. When my dentist was making a crown for me, he handed me the devis and told me to show it to my mutuelle to get their authority to proceed.  If a dentist was loading up the price, I suspect the mutuelle would query it.
6. If you have Realplayer installed on your computer, then when you are viewing a Youtube video clip, you hold your mouse over the image and a small flag will pop up that you can click to download the clip to your hard drive.
7. An annual tax declaration is obligatory, even it all the boxes have 0 in them.
8. Chris Your query appears to be what are you liable to pay in tax and to whom, and whether you are entitled to a benefit that will reduce your taxes as your earnings are below the minimum for a couple. As far as income tax liability is concerned, whilst it must be declared here, your war pension is not taxable in France.  However, even if you had entered it in the wrong place on your French tax declaration resulting in it being assessed as being taxable in France, the amount you receive falls far below the actual tax threshold so your French tax bill would be zero. That is basically what your Chateau Gontier tax man has already confirmed to you. As far as obtaining exemption from tax d'habitation is concerned, you would need to be in receipt of the allocation aux adultes handicapés. However, your current disability assessment is insufficient to qualify for the allocation. Finally, it is not clear what the "€3600+ in taxes owing to the Government since 2009" refers to, so it would help if you could clarify this.
9. ICE (plus number) is recognised in France as a contact number for your 'proches'. .
10. Dave When your friends arrive back in France with the car, they must first visit their tax office to pay any TVA that may be due and obtain a Customs receipt as proof of payment. If it's a second hand car, then there's no TVA to pay and they be given a quittus fiscal exemption certificate instead.  The receipt/quittus gives them their legal authority to drive the vehicle in France under its foreign plates for up to one month whilst they organise a carte grise.  This period is extended to four months if the vehicle requires a DREAL inspection.
11. If you are talking about doing the seven hour training course in order to be able ride light motorcycles of sub-category A1 under your category B car licence, then you receive an attestation confirming you have completed the training and your existing licence remains unchanged.  The attestation serves as your A1 riding entitlement but it is only valid on French territory.  You may carry a pillion passenger.
12. antoinette Unlike Benjamin's 2003 model, your camping car is too old to qualify for an EU certificate of conformity so you'll need to put it through a DREAL approval inspection.  For this, you will need to supply them with the following documents: - a copy of the V5C registration document; - an attestation d'identification from the base vehicle manufacturer, eg Fiat France, together with a notice descriptive (commonly known as a 'barré rouge'); - an attestation from Dethleffs covering the conversion (the 'cellule') certifying, amongst other things, that it has not caused the vehicle manufacturer's design weights and dimensions to be exceeded; - an inspection report from Bureau Veritas certifying that the gas system, flues and emergency exits conform with the French Normes; - weight tickets ( total vehicle weight and for each axle); - a controle technique certificate. You then put them together into a 'dossier', hand it in to your DREAL and ask them for an appointment for an inspection.
13. Ask your consultant for advice.  If driving is likely to be out of the question, then he should give you a bon de transport so you can use a medical taxi to get to and from the hospital and leave the car at home.
14. You'll find most events are listed in the weekly classic bike newspaper La Vie de la Moto, on sale in newsagents and supermarkets.
15. It doesn't matter.  If it did, then they wouldn't get away with it.......[;-)]
16. http://www.douane.gouv.fr/page.asp?id=31 Explains which tax office you need to visit to pay any TVA due or to obtain a quittus fiscal: ....il faut se rapprocher de la recette des impôts du domicile pour les particuliers et du centre des impôts du principal établissement ou du siège social pour les assujettis et les personnes morales non assujetties identifiés à la TVA.....
17. Yorkie wants to drive a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes so it's category C1 which he is missing....
18. The simple mention that you hold an S1 will suffice. The month's income prior to you receiving your S1 in February will have been liable for CRDS, but given that it's only charged at a rate of 0.5%, the tax office won't be concerned about querying it and chasing you for a handful of euros.
19. David The form V62 is only to be used when applying for a replacement V5C for an existing UK registered vehicle where the original has been lost, stolen, defaced or destroyed. Your daughter will need a form V55/5 'Application for a first licence for a used motor vehicle and declaration for registration'.  It's a two part carbonised form which isn't available for download but it's included in the import pack which she can obtain by phoning Swansea.  The pack contains all the documentation required, including the usual customs declaration for imported vehicles. Edit:  AnOther beat me to it.......[;-)]
20. La Tour de France des Motos Anciennes - 60 plus pre-1960 bikes/sidecars, 20 days, 4,500kms.  Rest halt and long lunch this year (September) at Cerizay 79140. La Tour Poitou-Charentes des Motos Anciennes - four day rally for classic bikes (September). Bourse Moto de Nantes (October) Bourse Moto de Niort  (March) There are also plenty of weekend ride-outs by local classic bike clubs in the area. On Saturday, we played host to the French Royal Enfield Association - 30 bikes from all over France plus a couple from Belgium.  We put on a tour of Deux-Sevres including lunch in the Marais Poitevin as well as a visit to a local 90 year old former wartime despatch rider who has a barn full old classic bikes, including the original Royal Enfield he used during the war.
21. Just to clarify, AnO's link takes you to one of the commercial companies that are authorised to process carte grise applications.  You still have to send them your application documentation so it's not quite a simple 'online' application and they will charge you a processing fee. The simplest and cheapest way is to apply to your prefecture for your new carte grise by post.  You send off the documents mentioned by AnO above, but before doing so, you cut off the detachable coupon from the old carte grise and retain it so you are able to continue driving the vehicle whilst you wait for your new carte grise to arrive.  As regards proof of identity, the prefecture will accept a photocopy of your passport as long as it is legible. http://vosdroits.service-public.fr/particuliers/F21031.xhtml
22. If you decide to move into the smaller house before the big house has been sold, then provided it remains empty and not let out, then the tax office will allow you to retain its 'principal residence' exemption from CGT for a period of time to compensate for the slowdown in the French property market.  The current discretionary period is around two years. After that time, if the big house is still unsold, then you lose that exemption and it becomes liable to CGT when it is eventually sold.
23. There is no requirement to 'declare the new house as a secondary residence' - it's simply a second house that you own.  Nothing to stop you carrying out renovation works straight away on the new house. Once you have sold your old property and  moved into your new house to live, it then becomes your principal residence and if you sell it 10 years down the line, there will be no capital gains liability therefore an allowance for renovation costs doesn't arise.
24. I remember some time ago Elamessa describing his problems in getting a CoC for his Pan but never heard the outcome. With my own Pan (1992 ST1100) I had to wait ages for Honda France to process my request - apparently the clerk dealing with it ended up by mislaying my dossier and had since left the company.  I eventually received a partial certificate showing the power rating at 72Kw (no restriction required) but with RHD headlamp as an exception.  I decided to wing it at the prefecture and they never batted an eyelid.  Walked out with my new carte grise.
25. Mrs Sunday bought a new phone from Darty.  No forfaits, just the phone.  Her existing Virgin SIM card works fine. http://www.darty.com/nav/achat/telephonie/telephone_mobile/mobile/index.html You can even buy a Hello Kitty sock to put it in.....[:D]
