  1. Yes, it's a pity, I got some really fun pikkies ! ! !
  2. I've just tried again, and moved the window to one side. There was nothing behind it. I have also taken the http bit, copied it onto Photobucket as an upload web url, but it comes back as invalid. It doesn't seem to like the "php" bit. I even tried changing the extension to "jpg" without success.
  3. Tu t'exprime parfaitement !  Je n'aurais cru que tu n'etais pas Anglaise [:D]   Je n'ai pas pensé à fermer la fenetre......[I]
  4. Thanks, Frenchie. Yes I use Photobucket a lot on another forum (!). But when I press save having transformed the face, no window appears. I have tried with Safari and Camino (Mac browsers) and they don't work. Dommage, but that's a drawback of not having PC......
  5. I can't get the photos onto Photobucket. When I click on "save" on the funny faces site, nothing actually happens. It is quite possible that it is not Macintosh compatible......like quite a few things.....
  6. Oscar, you have to make sure you kill the eggs which can hatch out at any time. So even if you rid your animals of fleas for a time, anywhere they have been lying (mats, their beds, your beds, chairs etc etc) could have eggs. These eggs can lie dormant for a while so it is important to treat all areas.
  7. When I try to upload onto Photobucket (using the web setting) it fails, saying invalid file php. Shame, because the pictures are a scream.
  8. We saw the item on TF1 on Friday night and thought it was hilarious ! They showed one for Sarko and then one for Segolène Royale !
  9. I couldn't get the images to save, so I can't add them.....what a hoot, though !
  10. That's interesting, I didn't know that, Megan. I have seen two different types of flea on our dogs, one brown type that crawl through the fur, and, a couple of tiles, a tiny black thing that hopped ! We had a problem this summer with the brown jobs. So i treated the dogs with Frontline Combi which also kills the eggs. Then I used an ordinary insect spray on any mat or rug where the dogs had lain. Hey presto, the problem seems to have been solved. But I will probably need to repeat the treatment as the eggs can lie dormant for months.
  11. JR, the make was BOISILOR and comes in round tins. They do an oil-based and a water-based finish. The advantage of the water-based finish is that apart from no smell, that it doesn't darken the beams. The medium oak (chene moyen) "warmed" them up just a tad, taking away the slighly grey look. Our beams are mostly pretty rough and a lot of them have had some woodworm. The finish has turned out superbly and everyone thinks we have waxed them !
  12. Are any heads actually likely to roll for this incredibly serious error which could have fatal consequences ? Highly unlikely in a fonctionaire state. No doubt someone will be looking to pass the buck.... Please excuse my cynicism, it comes from working with the judiciary system.......
  13. Tillergirl, we have been through the awful experience with two of our Border Collies. Our first dog knew it was his time because he lay in a spot under some trees not far from where he was to be buried. He had never done that before. The vet came to the house and put him to sleep in the garden. Our second dog was done at the vets. We brought her home and buried her next to our first dog. It's worth asking your vet if she'd come out when the time comes....
  14. Richard K - yes, I have seen exactly the sort of fencing you are talking about. They sell it at Espace Emeraude (see Google) and most of the places that sell outdoor stuff like pre-treated posts, poles, trellis, panelling.
  15. JR, pharmacies also sell Prep H Veinotonique which are tablets for H*******s and they tonify the veins. I noticed that pharmacies don't seem to stock the ointment, just the gel.
  16. The easiest finish to apply is one of the non-smelling, quick-dryinglasures which you will get in any brico shop. If you use the oil-based ones, they will darken the wood (particularly oak). The quick drying ones are acrylic-based and will probably stick to your beams even if you don't remove what is underneath. The purists will no doubt encourage you to wax them, but we have over a kilometre of beams here, a lot of them quite rough, so waxing was not an option ! The quick-drying lasure has given them a really nice warm finish (medium oak) with a hint of a shine, but definitely not a gloss. You would not know whether they had been waxed or varnished ! ! Not sure what could have been on your beams that would be shiny - the French use a lot of Broux de Noix (sp. ?) which is a walnut-based dye, but it gives a dark brown matt finish.
  17. We've had a couple of mobile gas heaters (super SERs) for about 20 years and they are brilliant.  They will heat a big room with high ceilings with no problem.  But, like the petrol heaters, they do make a bit of condensation if you have them full on.  We run ours on medium or low but turn it off from time to time.  If they start smelling, it usually means the gas cylinder is running out !
  18. I realised our CT was one month (!) out of date, phoned the nearest CT place and went over that afternoon. That's a first in a lot of years of driving.....
  19. Perhaps not relevant, but how many English speakers know the difference between "shall" and "will" in the future sense ? Or "may" and "might" ??????? Nous avons raté le train. Il aurait fallu que nous nous précipitassions ! (I think...... !) How about this (even worse) : Putain, on a raté le train. Il aurait fallu qu'on se précipitasse.... !
  20. We have a plantation of Corsican Pine (Laricio de Corse) and we are obliged to 'control' them. Our Forestry advisers say spraying is ineffective as they are protected by the cocoon, and that the only way is to cut the branch, put the little beasts in a bag and burn them.
  21. Isn't that what they eat in Koh Lanta ?? But perhaps you don't watch it ???????
  22. I think that "aubier" sounds just right, as Jane & Danny say. A Frenchman would pronounce it more like "orbier", not like an English person who would say "ohbier" as in "oh dear" !
