1. Gardian Positive news, that sounds like a step in the right direction so fingers crossed and hopefully it will all come good in the end.   Bon courage et bonne chance.
2. Location / access Appeal Marketing /advertising Price Many things to consider.[:)]
3.
Is this the peacetime equivalent of turning round the signposts ? John
LOL[:D]
4.
If you are a resident and tax payer in France, you have the original receipts from a french registered company then why not.[:)]
So long as you make tax declarations in France that's the important thing, it doesn't matter if you are a second home owner and not a full time resident in France.
5. Actually, the 'buy the land' advice from Ernie might just be a possible avenue.  The land owner is skint and is only going to sell the plot to another developer for construction.  With the market the way it is and the site-clearance work that would be required (100+ established oak trees) + no utilities in place, the owner might be open to a reasonable offer.  The malpractice insurance claim could go a fair way to meeting that. Trouble is ................... we'll have to employ another bloody lawyer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Never a dull moment. Gardian Like Deby, I too offer my condolences.  If you are able to buy the land then I would say "go for it" you would at least have peace of mind. It sounds as though the story would make good material for a book! Now there's an occupation for the winter months and if published would help fund the purchase costs.[:)]
6. [:)]In our holiday home we compromised and chose a house with only one shower room which was downstairs. Six years later we found we could fit in another shower room / loo upstairs and this is brilliant, so now we have two.[:)]
7. "I would really like a nice long hot summer...... the heatwave of 2003 now seems attractive." NO Deby........please not another canicule, I couldn't bear it[:'(]
8. "I got 22 weeks in my first year with one gite (have subsequently bought 2 more and the trend has continued.)" Ian, you are further south so will no doubt benefit from a longer season.
9. Tressy I can't remember 2006 so well, I think 2007 had to be the most awful March we have experienced in 7 years of March visits to the Charente-Maritime, the worst thing was the perishing cold weather towards the end of the month.[:(]   Lets hope 2008 March will be sunny, mild and pleasant.[:)]
10. http://www.bodrum-info.org/airport/ This link might be useful. [:)]
11. Eos I can understand your concerns, my advice would be as follows; Make sure she has (on her person and written down / clearly typed ) contact phone numbers plus addresses for the friends, the SIL and you. Tell her that if there is a problem i.e. delayed flight, she can't find her way or anything else that she should contact uniformed staff at the airport and ask for help, quite likely they will speak English or find someone who speaks English to help her and she can always show the above piece of paper. If their English is not too fluent this paper might be easier for the "helper" to understand than it would be for them to try to understand her questions. Good luck, I am sure she'll be fine with direct flights and will manage well. Let us know how she gets on. [:)] Edit: Just a thought, as she is so young, does she need to show a letter from you to say that she can travel alone from Bodrum / Amsterdam?
12.
Strange phenomenum. Around here, there seems to have been a simultaneous loss of (a) TV coverage at 21.00 last night and (b) any memory that France was playing England. Funny that, eh?
The fireworks celebrating 10 years of the Stade de France I believe were also planned with a French win in mind. That must have been really disappointing for the French. [Www](oh dear) P.S. BRAVO LES ANGLAIS! you did us proud[:D]
13. "Please tell me this happens every year!" I think you could be disappointed [:(]
14. I would like read "Chaleur du Sang" and will look out for it on my next trip to France. I have bought "LES FEUX DE L'AUTOMNE" on eBay France but have not yet read it.
15. O.K. back on track.   We didn't bring furniture to France as ours is a second home and we needed to keep all our stuff in our first home.   BTW (off track again) I had Borsch once in Russia and I swear the soup had cows eyelids floating in it complete with lashes YUK[+o(]
16.  "Borsch" LOL[:D] [;-)] isn't that a sort of Russian soup?!!
17. Rose I would play safe and start with an invite for Aperos, drinks, nibbles and time to chat is a fairly easy way to begin, you can graduate to something more exotic [8-|] (meals etc) once you get to know them better.   Good luck whatever you choose.[:)]
18. Thebiga wrote "You can in general guarantee the six weeks school holidays, After that its a lottery".   I agree, the number of bookings per year certainly can be a bit of a lottery. You could look at various Gite websites and see how many others are doing the same thing in your area. I think the Charente (16) & Charente Maritime (17) are already well served and there is a lot of competition out there. Whatever you decide, Bonne chance et bon courage [:)]
19. Sweet 17 Yesterday was grey here but not cold, weather is sunny again today here, probably not as warm as the Charente-Maritime but the sunshine (anywhere) makes all the difference.[:)] I do remember a week, late March last year in 17 and it was freeeeezing, wind from the arctic and rain![:(]
20. Thanks for that Will, I will check it when I have a moment, I certainly have no intention of replying.   I hadn't seen the other post so thanks for that too.

VINCENT *********************************************** Apologies if it's not but it sounds dodgy to me[blink] [I]As for being "greatly impressed after reading my profile" [8-|] I am convinced it's a hoax
22. Well Sweet 17 we have been enjoying some glorious days here in the U.K. just recently so don't be too alarmed. Snowdrops, daffodils, crocuses, violets and our japonica bush are all in flower here in S.E England so don't despair. [:)]
23. "why the need to have derelict, dusty, draughty houses, and to spend your retirement going backwards and forwards to the brico depots,"   Fussy Maybe one reason is that some people like a project and joint occupation for their retirement years.
24. "It may sound like ungrateful whinging before they even get going but, as an example, when my son visits us later this year he will fly into Angouleme but have to return from Poitiers."   At least these days it is possible to buy to singles and mix and match. A shame Easy Jet have bought GB Airways as they too were planning to fly from U.K. (LGW) to Angouleme.
25.    " je suis bien dans mes baskets"   nice one Frenchie in fact I like both expressions and will try to slip them into conversations as and when.[8-|]   biftecks and baskets rule o.k. great[:)]
