1. I just whizzed through and got ten right[:D]. I thought this test must be some sort of joke, as most of the questions were pretty irrelevant to being a british citizen.  Then I clicked on the link to buy the books and was amazed to be taken to the tsobookshop site, so I guess the test must be genuine.  If anyone wants to go through and learn such useless info (and on the trial test basis, there must be a lot of tosh in the books), they must be really desperate to live in Britain.
2.
Are you referring to last night ? If so go to http://www.danasoft.com/
I remember there was a poster on here who had one of these boxes, funny thing is it was always 100's of KM's out to where I live, guess it must depend on your ISP server setup?
3. I always prefer Ibis Hotels.  Consistent, you know excatly what you are going to expect, and not overly expensive.  Normally each large town has one near a motorway and another in the centre. Don't know anything about baby facilities though.
4. A few years ago, whilst on holiday at an all inclusive resort in Lanzarote, a Belgian entertainer (who's name temporarily escapes me) did the Dinner for One sketch absolutely brilliantly, we were all rolling on the floor with laughter.  It works so much better live.
5. I have recently had cause to contact EDF several times on behalf of a client.  So much so that when you ring EDF, with a touch tone phone the computer asks does this call relate to such and such name/address, if so press 1.  Once you get to the end of the menu and talk to someone, and start asking specific questions related to the bill for this person, you then find you have to give their reference number again!!!!! Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh.  Whats the point of asking if this information doesn't come up on their screen.  Aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh. Thats better.[:D]
6. You have to apply to HMRC to continue to do self assessment on UK rental income if you live abroad, they then provide approval to pass onto the letting agents.  Without this HMRC approval, it is the letting agents who have to deduct the 20%.  We did/do just this.
7. On Monday, I was at a friends house, and they are able to receive ShortsTV.fr.  I caught the last few minutes of a film which was very atmospheric, and with pretty good cinematography and I really enjoyed it.  A bit of digging and I found this clip (scroll down, on left hand side), the film is called L'ecluse, and I will be on the lookout to see all 18 minutes of it (EDIT, that will be 0700 tomorrow (thu 30) then!).
8.
Can anyone think of a film, in French or English, don't mind, that takes place in the middle ages, if possible not a war film, but more psychological, with castles, knights, etc .. ?
Wouldn't emjoy Henry V then Frenchie[6]
9. My sister was a grandmother at the grand old age of 42 last year (and her and her son have never taken drugs in their life[:@])
10.
Columbus direct say that for their annual travel ins you must begin and end your travels in the UK. Not a lot of good if you live in France or elsewhere which i believe the original poster intimated, unless i have read it wrong...............
No you may have input the details into their system wrong.  I live permanently in France, and I can assure you my insurance is correct.  On the page I linked to the first thing you have to do is use the drop down to say where your residency is.
11.
refer to the UK's swine flu? How has the UK got the blame for that? I thought it is worldwide, having started in Mexico?
In France it is refered to as English swine flu, to the extent that French people are being warned against being amongst large congregations of English people[:(]
12.
Its the same with petrol, we have three garages in our village. Naturally the supermarket garage is the cheapest but the others vary by as much as 20 cents a litre.
Quillan, do you have a sapeur-pompiers caserne in your village? If so, I would put money on the garage that they use to fill the vehicles is the most expensive one, nice little guarenteed income.
13.
A film that really touched my (' soapy?? ) soul
I think you are after "soppy" Frenchie.
14. You need a medical to keep the +E categories that enable you to tow over a certain weight. When I did mine it was simply an eye test and blood pressure, probably depends on the doctor (my medecin traitant is one of the approved doctors)
15. I think you may need your local CFE (Centre Formalites Entreprise).  They are the body that centrally deal with business registration/ deregistration (I think regardless of the type of entreprise, but I am quite happy to be corrected).
16.
Am I in the minority here?
Not at all, I agree entirely, but then I am a man and DETEST shopping!
17.
I was looking for any previous threads about welcome guides/house rules that kind of thing)
Can I ask, was the thread that I linked to what you were after? Edit: You need to click on the word this (in my original post) using your mouse!
18. I found this thread (and only this thread), by putting the words "information manuals" in the search box top right within the "Gite Owners" section.
19. And just remove the offending ' from the quote block, and Robert is your father's brother.
20. Interesting.  I got stung by a wasp (twice, in quick sucession in vitually the same place of my body) yesterday, for the first time in a long time, but I don't think I have had a more severe reaction than when stung in the UK.
21.
what does SWMBO stand for.
Really useful website for future reference.
22. I believe they use the carte grise to check the exact model/type and therefore the specifications/parts that are expected/required (not to check who is the owner).
