1. As far as emergencies are concerned, you may be asked where you want to go, but it does depend on: a) what your injuries are: and b) what beds are available. In the end, you may or may not have your wish granted. As for elective procedures, I have no idea.
 2. Have a look at either the front or back page of the service manual, that's where we found my mate's code, but I can't remember what exactly it was called. Edit, it was probably this four figure code:-
Found a four digit code ...............on the back of the service book
3.
friends of ours have sold their French house and are now returning to the Uk, they are under the impression, that they will have to pay 3% on the money sent back to England, the French house is the only one they own,
The only thing that I can think of is there is (was?) sometimes (perhaps?) a requirement to appoint an agent to cover any future capital gains tax bill.  The cost of this is possibly a fixed percentage.  This may even be old information, but it is worth investigating further.
 4. Very funny, especially when he offered proof the he had nothing personal against the english "why, I once bought a drink for an englishman in a bar"! Priceless[:D]
 5. The *9 is from your Neuf "fixed" line, ie your phone connected via your neufbox.  I think FT were 1313 for the messagerie, but it is a long time since I was with them. Your can also access your messages when logged into Mon Compte, but again it is a while since I did this.
 6.
Yes there is a star-are all missed calls recorded or only last one with this?
All missed calls are recorded. And I agree with Quillan about the Siemens Gigaset range, use them myself.
 7. Hi Ray, welcome to the forum. I don't think you need to do the tests until you have found a buyer, so the question of length of validity only comes in if the sale falls through.  However, this is only my opinion from a buying point of view, as I have never sold a property in France[:)]
 8. If you use Neuf for your calls, the message service is accessed by dialling *9 on your telephone.  If there is a star on a dial telephone?
 9.
On the outskirts of Percy in Normandy (some may know it) there is the normal town sign, no speed limit sign.
When you pass the town name sign, in the absence of any other signage, then the limit is 50KPH, and then rises again to 90 KPH (in the absence of any other indicated limit) when you pass the town name sign with the bar through it.
 10. Two weeks ago bought a Toshiba REGZA 32AV565DG and am delighted.  HDTV with TNT and analog PAL-I (as described by the manual!), PAL-B/G, SECAM-L & SECAM-D/K, so could be used in France or UK.  Arte HD is a revelation.  Great picture quality.  Very, very happy.[:D]
 11.
4. Take lots of handy items such as 3amp and 13 amp fuses, adapators and  such like for the Uk appliances that you take to France. Until you have the time to swap everything over to French plugs, these will come very much in handy !
Better to take a load of 3 or 4 way extension leads and just change one plug instead of many.  Even better if you can do this by buying a few plugs beforehand.
 12.
I am trying to remember the name of the French company that is related to Comet or Currys.  Someone will come along and help, I hope...
Probably Darty, but don't quote me! And welcome Deborah.
 13. Yep, saw it too.  Loved it when he was having a cup of tea at one customers house.
 14. There was a report on M6 mag (edit!) last night about a restaurant in Nantes that on Tuesday lunchtimes is doing a "credit crunch" two course meal for 3€50! I think the restaurant was called L'étage.
 15.
Do they send these to everyone with a property in France... eg. non-residents?
See the link in Clairs post for a full answer.
 16.
We have one of those 'unique' forms too: "caractéristiques et confort du logement" is the name at the top Sue
But this doesn't ask how many bathrooms you have , just if you have any or not[8-)]
 17.
I simply have that delivered to my PC.  Anybody else do that?
No, or any other paper.  I prefer to walk across the road to my Tabac and buy one of the local rags[:)]
 18. Personally, I'm more or less with dave.  Although I have been in a variety of Wetherspoons, with a full range of clientele, they all share one thing in common........absolutely diabolical service, and as such, I avoid them like the plague.
 19.
such as Viking Direct, where they deliver to the door,................ Is there a stationery supplier such as this in France with a website ....
Try http://www.jpg.fr/fra/catalog/stap_home.asp?ct=1 or http://www.bernard.fr/FRA/Catalog/stap_home.asp?CT=1 or http://www.vikingdirect.fr/ I have personally used JPG and they were very efficient.
 20.
and despite my warnings about la loi chatel the last two times, he still sends out the renewal notice (dated one month before) on the 31st December for renewal on the 1st of Jan.
You have 20 days from the date of the postmark on the envelope to cancel the insurance.  This is what the Loi Chatel says.
 21. Without moving the bottles to measure at the base (where it would be easier and more accurate), its about 290mm.
 22. We had to provide this info for our March Girona departure, but this was a Spanish requirement, not UK.
