1. Ex-pats asked to help find missing Briton in France British police are appealing to the ex-pat community in France to help them trace a missing man who they believe may be in the country. David Chitty, aged 48, was reported missing from Worcester on 17th November by the city’s Newtown Hospital and staff and the local force, West Mercia Police, are increasingly concerned about his welfare because of his medical needs. Mr Chitty is believed to have caught the 1530 hours train from London St Pancras Station to Gare Du Nord International station in Paris on 17th November, but has not been seen by French police since his arrival. Officers from Worcester Police Station have asked their counterparts - and members of the public across the English Channel - to now look out for Mr Chitty at, or near, 1 Rue de la Grotte, Lourdes, France. “There is ongoing concern that Mr Chitty will have become confused and may be behaving oddly, having missed his medication,” said a police spokesman. “There is now substantial information that he is in the Lourdes area and probably at the Rue Des Grotes address.”  Mr Chitty is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, of heavy build with dark brown hair with a quiff and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, brown cardigan and trousers.  Anyone who believes that they can help in the search for him is urged to call West Mercia Police on +44 300 333 3000, quoting 572S/171109, or to contact their local police in France. 2. Bonjour forum-users, I'm writing about hidden Christmas markets in Alsace or elsewhere in France... can you recommend any that tourists wouldn't normally know about? What do you like to eat/drink/buy there? Where do you go to get a bit of Christmas spirit in France? It's for my next Times Online column... Here's the last one in case you've never seen it - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/destinations/france/article6863426.ece Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you! Carolyn
3. The death knell for school exchanges has been sounded...   http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/the_way_we_live/article6887803.ece Is this a good or a bad thing? What about your own experiences? Anyone got something funny to share? It's no wonder I'm a Francophile - I have recurring nightmares of my GERMAN exchange with a very moody Hamburgian teenage girl who would serve her mother with a shot of schnapps each breakfast time. Carolyn :-)
4. Hello expats, When driving in Britain, we flash our lights to other motorists at a junction to say 'you go first'. We've been told that in France, it's the opposite - if a motorist flashes his lights, it means 'I'm going first'. Is this true in your experience? Thanks for your help! Carolyn   Editor, France Mag
5. Hi there, If you are a Twitterer.... follow the France Magazine page at http://twitter.com/francemagazine Anna is off to Paris this weekend, so feel free to feed her Twittertips... Carolyn
6. These are all great leads - thanks everyone, and keep them coming!! I just love how the French care so much about their food that they find a way of making it accessible to all. Where I live in the UK (Cotswolds), it's all just ridiculously expensive and not even that great... Thanks! Carolyn
7. Hello forum-users, Can any of you give us some tips on great places to eat that don't cost the earth? I'm keen to hear tips from your local towns/villages, and any other ideas you might have for making a holiday in France cheaper, given that the pound is almost the same value as the euro at the moment. Thanks for your help, Carolyn Editor, France Magazine
8. Bonjour! Are you going to any big events in France this year? What are you most looking forward to? Did you go to any of the following last year? Nice Carnival, Puy-en-Velay hot air balloon festival, Marciac Jazz festival, Cannes or Deauville film festivals, Eurockéennes? What would you recommend to our readers to visit? If so, it 'd be great if you could let me know your experiences! Thanks, Carolyn Boyd Editor, France Magazine
9. Hi there, Where do you think some of the best places will be to watch it en route? We'd like to recommend a few places to our readers, in a kind of reader-to-reader way... Thanks! Carolyn Carolyn Boyd Editor, France Magazine
10. Bonjour Forum-users, There seems to be a trend that people are choosing to go to France in the same way their parents chose to when they were children - ie. pack up the car, on to the ferry and off to the campsite. For my  regular Times Online column, I'm keen to hear from people who, because of financial contraints, they are reconsidering their usual holiday plans and copying their own childhood holidays. What are the advantages of doing this nowadays? Are the campsites better now than then? Let me  know! Best wishes, Carolyn Carolyn Boyd, Editor, France Magazine
11. Hello Forum-users, Is anyone going to a truffle fair soon? Or maybe you went to one last year? It'd be great to hear your experience of it - what did you buy? How much did it cost? What did you cook with the truffles. Hope you can help, Best wishes, Carolyn
12.
I am sure someone will know, I have some (fruits?) from a mature tree that look like giant pears with a pale yellow/green skin, any ideas on what they are or what to do with them?
Hi Les, If you take a look at France Magazine in January (out mid-December), there's a lovely article by our food writer Rosa Jackson on how to enjoy quince. It made my mouth water as I proof-read it! Best wishes, Carolyn
13. Bonjour Forum-users, Who's looking forward to November for some Beaujolais nouveau? Is there a big celebration in your community? Do you usually like the taste of it? What do you eat with it? Is it even more rewarding if you've taken part in the vendanges? Let me know what you'll be doing, or what you might have done in the past. Thanks, Carolyn
14.
I have quinces in my garden - do you have a recipe for the jelly?
Hi Joffan, If you take a look at January's issue of France Magazine (out mid-Dec, free if you attend the France Show at Earls Court), you'll find a multitude of ways of cooking and enjoying quince! Best wishes, Carolyn Editor, France Magazine ps. And I'll try and tone down my use of exclamation marks. Sorry.
15. Hi Cathy, Thanks for this link! I included it in my latest Times column - see http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/destinations/france/article4906111.ece Thanks! Carolyn
