12 noon and the mercury is at 33º. So glad I repaired the aircons in March!

My wife needed a PCR test for a hospital visit in March. I phoned our local cabinet, who said that Brigitte, our regular infirmière, would come to the house a day or so later. Next day I thought it would be a good idea to have a test myself, so called to ask if this was possible. "No problem" I was told. The samples from both of us went to the laboratory of their choice, and we received the results (negative) by post the following day. A van passes through the village every day to collect samples of all kinds from the infirmières and the pharmacies, so we have never had to go to a lab. in person. The cost of both the home visit and the test were covered 100% by l'Assurance Maladie (15€73 for the infirmière and 53€19 for the lab)

Our current account with Lloyds bank was opened in 1968 at its current branch, but was transferred from another branch where it was opened in about 1954.

It was mentioned on our Mairie's Panneaupocket a couple of days ago, together with alternative fixed and mobile numbers. The programme/app may be downloaded here: PANNEAUPOCKET I didn't mention it because at the time I was feeling annoyed at being called stupid by the Oracle from Piss-on-the-level. We like PG Tips tea bags, which are not easy to find around here, and usually expensive. Before this year we usually bought them from British Corner Shop. I just checked, and they now have a warehouse in Holland to avoid customs duties on shipments to the EU. The prices are a little higher than before, up from £7.99 in May last year to £8.39 for a 240 bag pack, but still probably worthwhile. Prices in Euros are also available, but at a rate of almost £1 = 1€30, so I use Sterling we have in the UK.

It is quite obvious that the authorities are only at best making random checks in some places. Saying that anyone can cross into Spain without being controlled is a bit like saying you drove home p*ssed yesterday and no-one stopped you, so anyone can drive when they are p*ssed.

[/quote] Which is quite ridiculous when, since the new plates were introduced, one can have any department number one chooses on the plates, and it is not necessary to change them when the car is sold or one moves into another department. We live in 11 but my car has the 30 plate which was on it when I bought it. We bought Kentucky Fried Chicken from a roadside stall near Preston in 1968, which I believe was one of the first outlets in the UK. We thought it was extremely greasy and rather disgusting, threw away most of it, and have never bought it since. I received a letter yesterday containing a small Ebay purchase and was surprised to see two commemorative stamps on it to the value of 7.00 (no currency unit mentioned). After a search I found they were issued in 1981 and 1990, worth a couple of Euros each as mint stamps in a catalogue. They have been postmarked, so presumably are still legal.
