1. The third picture down just has the qaulity of a small model cleverly photographed to me. The lack of switchgearm, cables, hoses etc just give it a scale model look. Can't say I am a great fan of "choppers/custom" bikes, well not to ride, but I do like the engineering and imagination involved. I'm sticking with, "it's not real". Is it called the "Photoshop Special"?
2. I think it's actually a scale model, but still very clever.
3. I'm a little confused by parts of the answers on this! We are in the process of either buying a freesat box, or just buying a Sky "Free to View" card, from what I can see, if you just keep your subscription card, and terminate the subscription, you don't actually get as many channels as buying the FTV card, and the FTV card gives you a few more than a Freesat box, unless I've read it totally wrong!
4. Funny that, because even though it's a simpler precess in the UK, I too got rid of AXA, (and Norwich Union) absolutely usless, well done!
5. Thanks to Tony F, I now know we appear to have got away very lightly, which is a huge relief. I know for those in the thick of it, it must have been awful, but I can honestly say, not knowing if you even have a house for over 24 hours is pretty awful as well. I may well sleep tonight! Thank you Tony
6. We're not far from Tony F, well our house is, but we're in the UK, and the thought that even a roof tile off for the next five weeks would ruin everything is very scary, not to mention trees down. Never happens when your home.....................
7. As we are in the SW, and our dog is regularly treated with Frontline, I was wondering if this treatment has any effect, as our vet thought that Tics were affected by Frontline?
8. I saw the film when it first came out (having worked with Hopkins on "Across the Lake" a docu' drama about Donald Campbell), and then brought the book it was based on. Munroe was nothing short of a backyard genius! As for Hopkins, well he has an un-nerving way of "becoming" who he is portaying. I sat next to Campbell's sister at the media premiere of Across the Lake, and more than once she called Hopkins, "Don", and sais she was completely taken in by his portrayal, voice, mannerisms, and even appearance, though she did say Ewan Cooper looked NOTHING like Leo Villa. I told a friend of mine this years later, and he said it had aslo happened when he portrayed Nixon, to the point where R M Nixon's daughter twice called Hopkins "dad"!!!
9. I consulted the knowledgable IT chaps in my better halves works (Ambulance Service) and my ex company (Formula One Management) both who use hundreds of PCs and laptops, and nearly all HIGHLY recommended Acer. I listened and have been HUGELY impressed. Cheap too, as you can purchhase direct from them, and they always have very very good deals
10. My remark re "not needing a charity" is obvious. If you ever did, and there wasn't enough money for your particular need, I suggest you'd be dissapointed. Are you seriously saying on the same night as Children in Need on the BBC , NOTHING else has functions/events/fund raisers? I would find it hard to believe, these countries, no, the world is a big place, there is room for people to do what they want to do, to raise what ever they want to raise, for whatever cause they wish. And I think you'll find people have enough inteligence to donate to various causes "reletively", e.g most would donate more to a "human" medical charity that a cat rescue centre, but they would still donate, and surely that is the important part? I would be moe likely to object to the UK lottry. Set up for "good causes", 90% of these causes are yet to see any funds, yet the Royal Opera House ( a running business surely?) has recieved over £80 million. Now the UK government is dipping into it for the Olympics and are threatening to do likewise for other non charity groups. I do have problems with charities anyway, I once took part in a pro-celebrity rally event. I was teamed with Giles Watling (the vicar in Bread) who was a complete woose at anything over 40 mph. The event raised £150,000. A party was thrown to present the cheque. The chap recieving the cheque put it in his company car. He worked for the charity, his car? A Jaguar Lynx Eventer, price £100,000, and the party cost? £50,000. In summary, I'll donate/raise money/ help out for who I like, when I like thanks!
11. One just hopes Norman will never have the need to rely on a charity...................................................
12. We have a Magiline pool, that I believe is constructed by digging the hole, placing in prefabricated shells, back filling, and installing a layer of foam, and then a liner. Two years ago I dropped the level for the winter, and there was heavy rain, and our liner bulged. It appears the rain water ran in behind somehow, and forced the foam down. I am still waiting for the insurance to even look at it, although they have sait it is covered. The pool engineer said we didn't need a new liner, and wouldn't have to empty it (that last bit I finf very hard to believe!) the bulge has not gone, and I don't think it will!!
13. The most obvious comparision would be left hand drive vehicles in the UK. It happens all the time (usually for "disabled" drivers, my aunty was given a lhd car by mobility because of a weakened left wrist), and there is never a problem, and much though it tries not to appear that way, the UK is in the EU................. Just an observation!
14. If forced to select from those last two, then yes, the yellow one, but don't we have corners in France, rendering that next to usless!!!
15. I have just posted this on another thread http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1486583/ShowPost.aspx (sorry it's a copy and paste!) which is sort of apposite, and as you can see from the final comments, Denmark seems to think differently from the UK and France!
16. Sadly no, I think the reg's that prevented Archie Scott-Brown etc, are still in place, and as such the RAC wouldn't allow it, the "must be able to exit the vehicle in under five seconds" rule would probably be the sticking point. I believe in Denmark, he just signed a waiver saying "it's down to me"!!!
17. He's the sort of guy that really doesn't think he's doing anything special. A couple more
18. A few years ago, when I still worked in F1/WRC/F3000 etc etc, I used to make sure I got to know the drivers in the "lower" formula, so that if they made it into F1, then asking for a interview would be easier. One driver that stood out was Jason Watt. Destined for F1 and to be World Champion, just as he was about to make the jump up, he was asked to take part in a photo shoot for a bike dealer in Demark. During the shoot, Jason was spat off the bike, and ended up in a wheel chair.  Jason recently e mailed me, having won the Danish touring car championship in a hand control Seat, against "able-bodied" drivers. I wondered if he missed is bikes, being a total petrol head. His response is below................................   Note the retractable wheels and mechanism. This is the determination that would have made him he first black GP driver/winner champion. One of the great, "what if" s of our time.
19. Who do I have to mug to get that in my garage!!!!??? but without the spotlights................
20. That is a mess, shows the deformable/crush areas of modern cars work. As regards the Escort, I would in a heartbeat! But maybe an RS1600 (maybe too much money) or an RS2000 (MKI) , but the Mexico was a little gutless. Lotus Cortina would be good as well. Strikes me, anyhting rear wheel drive with a modicum of power would be fun!
21. I'm sorry that may have been meant as a joke, but I'd rather it was brought and kept running, if only to keep the other operators "honest", I'm sure those possibly losing their jobs would been only to keen for there to be a "mug" willing to employ them. If it wasn't a joke, just another reason why I eventually hope to leave the UK
22. Distance from Caen to our house is just over 500m so easily doable in one day from the ferry docking at 6am.  Boulogne is 730 ish miles so we've saved about 300 miles driving and fuel. But what astonished me is that the toll charge from Caen is  down as 4.5 euros and is about 66 from Boulogne so saving about 120 euros. (I'm going to check my doofah statement carefully on this as it seems odd) I'd think there is something wrong there. Boulogne to Belves is 657 miles, and we pay approx' 20 Euros on our route, and a fair bit is motorway.
23. It looks more like the 26th now. My confidence hasn't been high since everything went pear shaped. There is a World wide financial crisis, so who in their right mind wants to buy a single craft ferry company with debts??? The best thing that could happen is that Speedferries find an investor, or a method to cover the debts, in an attempt tp trade out of trouble, but that doesn't seem likely either. It's not a disaster for us, but it doesn't help, but obviously I'd rather Speedferried kept running, it was friendly, well run, very very convenient, and well priced. Pinkies crossed!!
