[quote user="Deimos"] [quote user="dogwood"]They only check the passport to see if the treatment has been done. It  takes no more than 2min's.[/quote] Wrong. Actually they do more than this - just that you don't see the other stuff they have to do. Ian [/quote]   Enlighten me please. What exactly do they do for there £30?? Dogwood
  3. How about this then???   I waved down an EDF van as it passed my house, I think it had been visiting someone else in the hamlet. I asked the question " how do I get my supply put up from 3kw to 6kw" He said like this.... Got out his van Klick Klick Klick....job done!!  [blink] Can now have the kettle and microwave on at the same time without plunging the whole house into darkness[Www] Dogwood [:P]

MIFFED!!!!! You bet!!!![:@][:@] This has been a real problem of mine since they started the PETS scheme (Scam!) I absolutly aggree with you 100%. As you say speed ferries charge £15 to bring your pet out but they do NOTHING to warrent this charge! Other companies only charge when you return to the UK.!      BUT £30![:@] They only check the passport to see if the treatment has been done. It  takes no more than 2min's. My vet does the treatment fills in the passport and gives the dog a health check all for less than £25 So  Tunel and Ferry Co's  WHY are you charging SO MUCH !!!! Dogwood
  5. Hi Aitch   I cant give you a formula for woodburners, but my main room is the same size as yours. I have a Supra 11KW woodburner. All I can say is Im glad its no smaller[blink] On some of those realy cold nights during the winter we needed every one of those 11KWs So I would suggest get the biggest one you can. You dont need to fill it up, but if it is too small you are stuck with it [:-))] Dogwood
  6. Hi Brit I agree with Martin. I think his advice is spot on. The only thing I would add is ( Hope im not stating the obvious) Do this in Set Up whilst watching signal strength. You will probably be unable just to watch for a picture coming in, as this takes some time and if you are fiddling with the dish whilst watching you could possably miss the saterlite. I know this because that is how I tried to do it at first [blink] Good luck. Not that you are missing much on TV anyway [:D] Dogwood
  7. Hi is this the type of thing you are thinking of? Its a Pashley tricycle. They do tend to be expencive, I found this one on ebay at £180 with 3hrs to go. You can often find them at your local disabled speciaist. I know the one here at Ruffec Charente16 has them on display. You could probably get a "test ride" there to see if she gets on with it. 12. I've seen those around here and they steal the seed off the bird table.  I'm not sure if they are ladybirds, though. My dog does that !!!![:D] [IMG]http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p212/muddypaws4x4/5878.jpg[/IMG]

  15. Hi Sunday Driver I take it thats a NO on riding yours then??[:D][:D] Could be the sort of thing I'm looking for. I suppose a Rocket 3 was a bit ambitious [blink] Any idea what sort of price? PM me if you like.  I'm popping back to England this afternoon, may have a look in the local dealers there and get a test ride just to see how I get on[Www] Cheers Dogwood Just found this on eblag. I have had 2 of these inthe past in the 850cc vertion. does anyone know if the 900 has fixed the gearbox probs that the 850 had? horrid clonking and the transmition lag was a nightmare on roundabouts. I know i am still being a bit ambitious but......[:$]
  16. Hi Thanks for the replies guys.  It looks like its the same as in the UK..... Shop around and shop around to get the best price you can, then shop around again[blink] It would appear that the costs are not disimilar to the UK (Providing you shop around[:D]) Much as I love my Quad I realy do miss not having a bike. 35 years biking!!!!!! 3 years now without being able to ride[:(]   I am seriously thinking of getting another bike (Dont tell my OH)  Do you know if you can get "Test rides" here in France? I want to be sure I can still hold a bike up ( coz of my accident) before I shell out my OH's cash[:-))] Do you think Sunday Driver will let me have a go on his new bike ? [:P][:D]  Dogwood
  17. Hi Can anyone advise me of the cost of insurance? My wife just renewed hers in England with Bennetts. a Yam XT225 cost £80. My Triumph 900 Thunderbird was about £170 2 years ago. Any idea what we would expect to pay here? I am 54 (sh*t how old) my wife is 48. both with full no claims. Dogwood Just as a point of interest my quad ( a bombardier outlander max 400) was just under 300€. half what I would pay in England. I know the bike won't be like that!! the UK hates Quads!!!!!

  19. Hi My dog is French resident she is now 4 years old and has been back to England 10+ times in her life. We have NEVER had problems, Maby we have been lucky but I do not find the prosess difficult at all. I take my dog to the vet in the morning the day before we intend to leave for England. He  gives the dog a worm pill (Drontal) and uses the Frontline drops I bring with me. He then fills in the passport with the time and date of the treatment ( It must be done 24 to 48 hrs before leaving France) Usualy costs about 35€ total inc a quick examination. That is all you have to do to take your dog back to the UK. My only gripe in all this is, 35€ for the treatment BUT 50€ for the ferry/tunnel co's to check the treatment has been done!![:@][:@] Dogwood
  20. Quillan: As it happens we have never taken him back to the UK so I don't know about the ticks jab.   Hi Quillan. Your pet should be treated for ticks and fleas every month. (I use Frontline drops.) If your animal picks up a tick and is not removed it can be very dangerous to it's health. I lost one of my dogs within the first year of being here because I didn't know about the danger's. Dogwood
  21. I think what you have there is a Lerot not a Loir. (Or to quote Monty Python  " An ex lerot it is no more it has snuffed it") The only pictures I could find are these The top one is a Loire The bottom a Lerot Dogwood   I have just been told by a friend a Lerot is a garden doremouse a Loir is an ordinary doremouse   Seuls les loirs et les lérots (Eliomys querconus) disposent de deux terrariums dans cette zone de l'exposition.
  22. Hi Just to put a clearer note on this. French resident dogs have to be vaccinated every year, The vet will issue the dog with a "Certificat de vaccination antirabique de rappel" this is not allowed to expire ( no booster injections after the one year  date) As I understand it if your dog bites someone and you do not have this cert then the dog will be taken away and destroyed so an examination can be done to make sure it does not have rabies. As for your dog being allowed back to the UK on its original English Pet Passport, Yes that is OK because it allows 2 years (sometimes 3) between boosters. Dogwood Just one final note        What about the  UK authorities being paranoid, but about the wrong things. WHY do you need to have your dog treated against tick and tapeworm 24 to 48 hours before you travel when this treatment lasts for a month ???????? [:@]  What about the ferry companys charging £30 to check your pets passport, when a car and 5+ people can trvel for the same sort of price, Ripoff or what[:@][:@]
  23. You got me wondering whether I had go it wrong so I went and checked the bill....[geek] I can only find the one for last year ( 17/11/2006) this was with 300kg cement mix. delivery to me is only 10km 1m3 inc delivery 83€ plus tax 16.27€ = 99.27€  [:D] Not worth the effort of mixing by hand at that price!! Dogwood I would be interested what it costs in your area.[blink]
  24. J.R.  That price makes me feel really stupid for mixing all the concrete that I have over the last 2 years especially being able to order as little as 1m3. Back in England the only way that I could get less than 6m3 wash by paying a bent driver for what was referred to as "washings"!   Im with you on that one J.R. [:D] I mixed up a LOT of concrete by hand before I found I could get a 1 cube delivered for that price. Put a path in 2 weeks ago took me 45 mins total.  By hand it would have taken ALL DAY[:(] Dotty  If you are ordering 7 cubes of  ballast you will need 70 bags (35kg)cement   Dogwood
