1. Booked a return flight with RA last week Liverpool - Bergerac return for early October £10 . No taxes , no Check-in fee , even used my newly acquired Visa Electron. Only going for 3 days so I will make do with cabin bag. Imagine my absolute dismay when I checked the flights on Tuesday to find they had been reduced to £6!!!!!
2. Hi Just wondered if anyone had any information on liner friezes , Poolguy mentioned back in July he was hoping to try a self-adhesive type. Thanks.
3. Why not remove the tee and get yourself one of those Piezo portable ignitors.
4. I paid 98c each at Point P last summer.
5.
Dave/Olive is the expert on this, if he replies.
Taken from an earlier thread (Balustrade) "mmmmm      if I turned out crap like that I would cut my throat with a broken bottle ???    Dave" I await his reply with relish!
6. Just booked an E*** ( medium standard hotel chain) B+B , for 51 Euros for one night , so thats 30 x 51 = 1530 Euros. You can get cheaper and obviously pay a lot more. I don't think there's all that much seasonal difference in prices.
7.
Even in my "Gorilla" days, I don't think I would have attempted to de-mount my ballon whilst still full of water! Let's see: 200 Litres of water is 200 Kg: which is approx  31.496 Stone, plus the weight of the damned thing = 2 prescotts. [:D]
Think you might have got it wrong again Gs. Surely its 2 Ballons Prescott
8.
No potential Olympic champions there then [:P] In other places it's called 'tombstoning' for fairly obvious reasons [blink]
My wife and I spent an hour watching some French Army types "tombstoning" off the Pont du Gard last summer. Scary!!
9. Most definately a Qualified Electrician would be your best bet at this stage , good advice about keeping receipts etc or keeping hold of faulty part for exchange (to use as a spare in the future??). Don't think the guarantee would include labour.
10. Might be the thermostat , our's went after 12 months.Fairly simple to change. Not sure how difficult the element is to change. Think you might have got your Volts and Watts mixed up. New thermostat was about 30E if I remember correctly. If you know someone with an electrical meter its a simple job to test the element. Always isolate the supply before removing the cover of course.
11.
Food and crumbs everywhere to the point that ants have taken up residence in the kitchen, empty packets all over the house, bathroom in an unspeakable state and a general stench of filth. The crowning glory was the selection of used condoms in the bedside cabinet.[+o(]
I've had to deal with soiled nappies in the bedroom waste bin and unused condoms in the bedside cabinet but I think your surprise was about as bad as it gets.
12. Very happy thanks. Sat in the Allan Kelly stand with my good lady and the noise when news of the Sheffield Wednesday goal came was unbelievable. Just 3 games away from the promised land!!
13. Just a thought but why would you want to point the walls if you are going to cover them with plasterboard? I thought the idea of using lime mortar was to let the walls breathe? Seems pointless when you're covering them up with plasterboard.
14. If its the same letter that we got , it's refering to the 4 yearly inspection of the Fosse Septic and they then bill you yearly , one quarter of the charge stated.ie. in your case 21,25Euro.
15. I have a O2 pay-as-you-go Roamin mobile which I use in France .When I ring a number in the UK I just use the same code as I would if I was in the UK. That is no 0044 just the UK code and number. The French network must know its a UK registered phone.
16. Paul wrote "You're right about the ring volts though.. can't half make you hop about if you just happen to have hold of both the line wires when Aunt Gwladys decides to ring for a chat!" Reminds me of the first time I climbed a pole , back in the 60's when uninsulated  drop wires were still to be found. I'd got my feet onto the top steps and being tall thought I could stick my head above the wires to get into a more comfortable position , Ringing current across both ears!! Good job I had secured my safety belt.
17. Now lets see if I can remember what I was taught in the 60's when serving my GPO apprenticeship. The phones in those days also came with a 4-way cord in the same colours Red , White , Green and Blue. The Red was connected to one "leg" of the line and the Green and White connected together to the other leg.The blue was usually not used unless it was a Shared Service line or PBX extension when an earth connection was required. The Green and White cords would be split if an extension was fitted to the main phone. This meant a 3rd wire was used between the Main and the extension and was known as the bell shunt wire.It stopped the bells tinkling when someone was dialling out on another phone. This is pin 3 that Paul is refering to. Most modern phones don't need this arrangement , indeed I have disconnected all my Terminal 3's to improve my Broadband speed. I would try Red on one and Green and White together on the other and see how you go. Don't worry its only 50v dc and you can't blow any fuses , but watch out for anyone trying to ring you , that can make you jump.
18. Depends on a few factors. Where you are situated. Is it going to be on a wall facing the prevailing wind. When I restored our Bread Oven the existing pitch was only 22.5 degrees.I kept the same angle but laid underfelt and used newer interlocking tiles. Not been a problem so far.
19. Thank you for speedy responses. Lessons learned? Amend our T&C to cover this eventuality in future and comply with French law. At present we ask for a £100 deposit irrespective of the length of stay or time of year , and if client cancels we will reimburse only if we re-let. I doubt we will be able to re-let these 2 weeks , but taking in your comments about goodwill and the amount involved I think this cheque will probably end up in the bin. If I did try and cash it and it had been stopped the effect on my blood pressure !!!
20. Hi In January I accepted a booking from a family in Ireland to stay in our Gite. I accepted a Euro cheque as deposit for a 2 week stay in early June. I agreed not to cash the cheque and hold it as the security deposit when full payment was made by internet transfer to my French bank in early May. They have contacted me via e-mail (even though we have spoken on the telephone in the past) that the husband as been made redundant and they are unable to come. I have a couple of questions. 1) Our terms and conditions clearly state that if another let is not secured we can keep the deposit , but would this be morally right. 2) Can the cheque be stopped? Thanks in anticipation
21. Have a look at this from Point P http://www.pointp.fr/pages/Journal-metier/metier-couverture.pdf If you do re- felt you obviously have to re - batten as well , take all the tiles off .............. Do you know the age of the tiles?
22. Sounds like you've got the traditional "canal" tiles. Like Ernie says they rely on there own weight to keep them in place , but over time slippage is inevitable. Are your tiles laid on  full boards ( the traditional method ) or battens?
23. Thanks for that teapot So rinse  is passing water through the filter in its normal direction but "wasting" rather than directing it back into the pool? Our filter is a Diamantes (I think thats how you spell it) seems to work OK.  Its just that first few days when I open the pool thats hard graft. We don't open the pool until late May ,which is probably too late , and the "green stuff" as gotten hold.
24. Hi Teapot Interested in your comments about backwashing frequently , something which I have to do when I open our pool after a long winter closure. I have never understood what the "Rinse" option is for on the multi-way valve. Perhaps you could enlighten me?
