cleaning tv screens
splishsplash replied to chirpy's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
You should not use these types of cleaners on LCD, Plasma etc. There are special cleaners you can find online by searching for cleaning LCD & Plasma screens, but I just use one of those magic dusters on mine & they come up like new. -
Which anti-virus?
splishsplash replied to Jacqui Too 's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Over the years, I have tried loads of anti virus providers, both free & paid for. I always had virus problems, slow running, crashes, you name it. Two years ago, I got a local guy to build me a new system, & he installed ESET security. I think it cost around 46 euros for a year, I upgraded it last time & it was 65 euros, & the best I ever spent. I have not had one problem for the past two years, I run the virus checker once a month, but there are never any problems found & I would never change this security software now. It has saved me a fortune in pc repairs! -

Anyone in 66110 Pyrenees area have the power back on yet? Heard from family there on Sat evening, all power gone & winds of 160kph, heard nothing since then. -
Our local quarry were very helpful & after we gave them the dimensions, they took us on a tour of the quarry & then worked out how much gravel we would need.
That is hard! I suspect you have to have the type of mind that makes you good at "Go" or a Rubik's cube................ Best I could manage is 94......[:(] Chrissie (81)
Not hard really Chrissy, you need to keep making red blocks so that the fleas gradually get stuck in the green square.

Bargain places to eat
splishsplash replied to Editor - France Magazine's topic in French Food and Wine
Leclerc have a new restaurant in Limoges that is very reasonable. Three of us ate there yesterday, 1/2 carafe of wine, 3 main courses, bread, 1 dessert, 1 fromage, 23 euros for the lot. -
There is a good reason why we should always eat our meat & fish well cooked, and here it is.... http://www.fray.com/drugs/worm/

Business venture idea - storage/parking for campers/caravans
splishsplash replied to Fiona's topic in Earning a Living
Hi Fiona There are already people who do this kind of thing. Not sure how successful it is though. The only drawback that I can see is that if one lives in the UK & the caravan is down in France, then it limits the use of that van. For instance, if I had a caravan in the UK, I would want to take it away for weekends, bank hols, that kind of thing & not just for 2 weeks during the summer. This may limit your client base somewhat. I wish you well though, & it will be good to hear from you if you do it & it works out well for you. -
Many thanks I'll keep checking on him. Complicated birds aren't they!

Thanks Craig So we can assume that we have three Greater Spotted woodpeckers, one male, one female & one juvenile. Do you know at what age the juvenile's head turns from all red to red nape only? Also, the juvenile I assume would be last Spring/Summer's hatching?

Thanks Clair I was starting to have a panic attack then!
I do a lot of knitting for Granchildren but I always struggle to find buttons in the colours I need. Can anyone suggest a good stockist of buttons ?
I found that our local EMMAUS has a section devoted to buttons old & new, good prices, lots of choice & the money is going to help the homeless.

Can anyone (Chris?) tell me the difference between these woodpeckers. We have three regular visitors to the tree behind our house. I thought they were all lesser spotted but... They are all black & white, not too big & all three are red underneath. However, one has an all black back to the head, one has all red & the other has a small amount of red to the back of the head & the rest is black. I thought that the all black was female, the mostly red was male, but what's the other one?
"French law requires foreigners to have a French driver's licence to drive in France if they are a resident for more than one year. Without this, they cannot be legally insured." [8-)]
I am mystified by this as we were stopped by the Gendarmes on a spot check recently & I asked the question about the licence. He told me that there was no reason to change our EU photocard licence even if we have been resident here for over a year. ( which we have) Who is correct then?

Another new Ryanair route - Bristol to Limoges
splishsplash replied to Ssc's topic in Travelling to/from France
Hi all, Ryanair have announced another new route from Bristol to Limoges. Due to start summer 2009. Little detail on thier website unfortunately. Great news for me as both my daughters live in Bristol. I presume it will be summer only but one can hope for all year round flights if its well supported. It should work for Bristol as there is a large catchment area of all of the southwest england as well as East Wales, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Bristol is much closer than the alternative of East Midlands _________________
It starts on July 2nd 2009 & will be operating on three days a week. Tues, Thurs & Sat. I have a feeling that it will be very popular & I wouldn't be surprised to see it kept as a regular year round destination.
