Re: Dartford Crossing and New Payment System:
dwmcn replied to Gluestick's topic in Travelling to/from France
JSKS, We made it to France and back on Tuesday. The road goes around the bridge toll booths and moved well, but an accident slowed up getting through the tunnel booths a bit. I assume our online payment was accepted. David -

Pickles, Of course you can entirely avoid the charge by going around the M25 in the other direction or by driving through London and going across another bridge. David -

Chancer, And now that they have got rid of the people working in the toll booths, they have upped the return charge from £4 to £5. David -

Pickles, We paid for a crossing, GB to France and back, online and printed the receipt. We will see if it works on Tuesday. David -

Theiere, I didn't even click on Spyder's link. David

JSKS, Dearie me, this forum is beginning to sound like some nasty Delphi forum. David

Spyder, Let me see if I've got this right. The law says you have to have a breathalyser in your car, but nobody gets fined for not having one. Typical French. Pass a law and nobody pays any attention to it. David
-
Kong Are you saying that the breathalyser is no longer required? We bought ours at the AA shop in Folkstone and are now on our second ones. David
-
Kong, Don't forget an in date breathalyser that you now need to have in your car and all that detritus cluttering up your boot should you need to stop to change a pneu. David

richard51, A lot of us have been ignoring it for some time. (Uraguay2-England1. Tee hee.) When somebody says Uraguay, I think they are calling me a name, "Hey dummy, you're a guay!" David

Clair, are you paying attention? Useful expressions!

Calais camps - where will they go?
dwmcn replied to Pierre ZFP's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
Frederick, According to one website I looked at, there are 47 campsites on Ile de Re. I don't remember it being that big. David -

Pierre, We'll check our car boot the next time we return to GB after a day trip to Calais. David -
Angela, I didn't think about the red-blue road difference. I was just pleased to find the map. Having worked in archaeology and history, I should have known about Bill the Conk and St Valery. I've been to Falaise where he was born. Having lived in St Albans for 30 years and worked on a site here, I know about Watling Street. David

Angela, This is the map of Roman roads I found on google. http://itineraires-romains-en-france.pagesperso-orange.fr/templates/carte.htm I suppose I should have known this about St Valery, but didn't. Hey, I'm an American! http://www.normaninvasion.info/duke-william-river-dives.htm David

Angela, At a quick glance, the present D940, which runs roughly east-west near Sr Valery, is the closest Roman road that I could find. David
-
Angela, Thanks for that. I have copied and printed it for my wife to look at as she speaks French. The D48, the nearest road to Estreboeuf, is a bit wiggly, but might have been a Roman road at some point. Maybe I'll check... David
