1.
Odile - sorry to disappoint, but pick a peck of pickled peppers ... etc does have a meaning, hence it is actually useful to learn it!!
Why?

    Any idea..?
[:-))] Ohhhhh  No farting :!! We don't do that here in the family !! French people do not fart, didn't you know that ??
Neither do I [:$].  Well except after too many crepes and cider. Seriously though, it made me really ill, the noises from my stomach were really really loud.  I have never suffered like this before.  It was as though I had four stomachs.  In the end I started panicking and I came out in a cold sweat. Well wouldn't anyone? [blink]

    Any idea..?

I had that a few weeks ago after crepes and cider.  Just leave him be, if he is in the same position tomorrow, take him to the vets and for gawd sake don't light the oven or you'll kill the lot of us.
  4.
spot on Katie. But I thought all you aussies are permanently upside down
Aussi?? [:'(]
  5.

, you say it "back to front" e.g. .
[:D] Do you realize French speakers consider YOU say it back to front too ?? [I][:)]
We don't do anything wrong, we are British. [:P]
  6. Nope, wrong answer BB. [:P] OK, anyone else?............................"Where is Brian"?
  7. "Where is Brian"? first one to give the right answer gets a sweetie
  8. Actually it's Dai Hard. [:)] Blodwyn Jones Diary
  9.
If je t'aime is I love you, what is French for I like you? Always confused me aimer, as I was always taught at school (by a real French lady too) that aimer is to like, not to love.
Je t'aime bien. Sounds stronger than Je t'aime but apparently not. Another example of the things being arse backwards.[:D]
  10.
Missy,   wasn't it the other way round?
Indeed it was missy, it is girls who ask the boys their shoe size.  It is OK, you are French, so speak backwards so you may think it too. [:D][kiss] Hey long time no.................What's been occurin?
  11.

Dont be tempted to squeeze pipe into a gap that is too tight its better to have a bit more mortar than a split pipe inside the wall.
I must admit......French soil pipe is an awful lot thinner walled than the English variety.
How can you say that when dibble hasn't even told us how big his hole is?? [blink]
  12. I had the professionals in when I had them in my house after my dog went to my mother.  I asked if they were discrete and was assured that they did not have "Fleas R Us" on the side of their van. However when they arrived, they were like someone from the cast of Ghostbusters!!.  Which led me into an immediate Hyacinth Bucket impression to get them off the doorstep and into the house. After speaking to them, I now realise it is no big deal and that most houses with pets unfortunately have them, there is nothing you can really do about it but they are really of no nuisance to us, so long as the pet remains in the home. Like rats and headlice, they are getting more and more resilient but are less of a hazard to our health than the chemicals to kill them.
  13.
I know that this year is a very bad year for flea infestations.  My friend works at our local vets, and says that even Frontline doesn't seem to be as effective as before.  My in-laws up in Northern France have just spent more than 400 € trying to eradicate fleas carried by semi-feral cats from their farm and house.
Have they had fumigation from professionals?
  14. Hi WJT, He looks like a real livewire and taking that into account, do you think he may have escaped?  How big is your commune?  I mean is it so small that you know every dog and cat there? He is a real beau and looks as though he has been well cared for.
  15. Thank you Sweet, that makes sense to me.  Xx Like you though, I would like to have a natives confirmation.
  16. OK, I know the French speak arse backwards [Www] and that Je t'aime translates to "I you love".  However, I discovered today that if a young girl wants to tell her boyfriend that she misses him in french, we say Tu me manques (sp).  The bit I cannot get my head around is the Tu me bit.  Frenchie? Missey? Claire/Bernard or whatever your name is? [blink]
  17.
Just Katie raised a very important point about flights, as if the reporting in this Sunday's newspapers are to be believed, flights to France are going to suffer the brunt of cutbacks in services by the low cost carriers this winter. .
And that's another story.  We will be reverting back to the donkey soon [:'(]
  18. Sorry Ian, I feel like the village gossip [:D]
  19. [:)] As I mentioned there are many forum users who live in this area who will be able to give you loads of advice.
  20.
thanks for this sprogster -
What about me? [blink] [:D]
  21. I have been to this area many times and have a dear friend who lives just outside.  In Briish terms, it will take an age to get to the sea although you are quite near the black mountains which I think has lakes and beaches.  I love the Tarn and it's villages.  You "know" you are in the South of France here. Pastis, sun flowers, red roofs on stone houses, that sort of thing. Although I believe Castres has an airport, I am not aware of any budget airlines that fly there.  Ryannair goes to Carcassonne and Easyjet goes to Toulouse. Castres has an old centre and like most larger towns, is surrounded with sprawl.  Albi is another alternative with a beautiful cathedral and is a student town. If you prefer the villages, there are many lovely villages which surround. There are many users of this forum who live in this area and will give you good advice because, like the UK, there are good and bad areas and you will probably need to be aware of this. I feel a forum bun fight coming on [:D] Oh and sorry Dibble, welcome to the forum [:)]
