1. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you need a UK address to "officially" have a UK licence. They need somewhere to notify you ( in UK ) of any driving offences ( speeding etc ).
2. I have just been speaking to a Belgian friend, apparently Belgians think the French are appalling drivers. He didn't comment on what they think of Brit drivers !!!!!!!!
3. Teamedup, I assume you are on oil. Nat gas is 'supposed' to be cheapest form of energy. ( inverted commas in case i  am wrong !!!) I only wish I had the choice. No gaz de ville in Chefresne so its going to be oil for me. Any chance of picking your brains by PM?? Regards
4. Tag, My preference is the Opel /Vauxhall Zafira diesel. I think its a great car with wonderful flexibility of seating / loading and a good balance of power/speed versus economy. Front quarter vis is an issue initially but you can get used to it. I cant comment on long term reliabilty as ours is less than year old but i believe the car mag reports give it a good write up. I find the cruise control a particular worthwhile feature on the run from Manche to Boulogne. Hope this helps Regards
5. Yes I was talking about the 39.90E max charge system. I'm not sure its a lot to pay, I pay the equivalent of 33E here for 512k, I suppose its all related to what you are used to.
6. Judith, Its a bit of a damning indictment of all smokers do you not think? There are inconsiderate non smokers also. I personally would never light a cigarette in the company of those who dont smoke, however, in my home I set the rules, is that not how it should be ? Regards
7. Is celotex or equivalent rigid stuff available in France or is it only the rolls of nasty stuff?
8. SaligoBay, I had, in the recent past, posted that I had been 'advised' that, following a chimmney fire call-out the Pompiers would require to see proof that the flue had been swept within the previous 12 months. Absence of the certificate being (presumably) an indication of negligence causing a fire which would then lead to a fine. I passed on the info in good faith for the benefit of other wood burning (or multi-fuel) members. I make no personal claims to know at first hand what the results of a call-out are. It was purely in the interests of safety. I have been wrong before and no doubt will be again. Regards
9. Further to (my) posts on the subject of chimmney fires and rammonage certs, did they ask for the cleaning certificate or have I been (inadvertently and with the best of intentions) posting utter bull****. Regards
10. Have been once, wont be repeated. Fully agree with comments about cats. I love cats ....but. Food was nothing to write home about. Only went because we had read about it on that other forum and we were at a 'loose end' at that time. The bar at Le Luot seemed quite ok. only went once to try to get some info.Cant remember the barman/owners name but the only other customers when we arrived were local villagers, they seemed quite happy. No idea how behaviour is if its full. Regards
11. La Plomberie by Thierry Gallauziaux / David Fedullo / Maurice Jaquelot Comme un Pro series Published by Eyrolles ISBN : 2-212-06817-4 Book rear cover shows price of 22E, may be cheaper on amazon.fr Absolutely loads of pictures and even I can understand the language!!!!!!!!! Regards
12.
Smoking, well both my wife and I smoke. How refreshing to find someone else who is as 'politically incorrect' as we are.
13. What happens if, in any particular month, you try to exceed the max, does your net access get blocked? Regards
14. Adriana, I think your maths a bit out. If you use extras to 39.90 per month for five months = 199.5E, you have to add on 10E x 12 = 120 for the full year facility. Total = 319.5E. As I understand it the 39.90 is in addition to the 10E per month. My maths could also be wrong!!!!!!!! Regards
15.
I tried buying a trailer second hand but found that they cost about as much as new ones!  If you can get one in the UK it may be cheaper (but then there's the ferry cost).  You don't need to register an ordinary trailer - just put a number plate on the back for the car towing, same as UK.
Cassis, From memory,French trailers seem to have a different number on the plate than on the car, if you don't need to register the trailer, how do you know what number to fit?
16. I suspect that Quillans 'agenda' comments would more likely apply to Iran than to the West. There are a lot of 'disturbing issues' associated with this situation:- Everywhere in the Islamic world seems to have an over-abundance of Danish flags on hand ready to burn, its not generall the sort of thing available in your average souk. Big demos in UK promising massive aggro - UK didn't publish the cartoons! Attack on US base in Afghanistan ( Bagram) - USA didn't publish the cartoons ! Shouts in Iran of 'Death to America' - again USA didn't publish the cartoons ! Who is winding up whom in this case. Opening shots of WW3 'The Islamic Wars', I hope not as I live in the middle !!!!!!!!!
17. Is it true that instant mash is known as the artex of the culinary world??????????? ps Joke!!! just in case anyone gets too upset.
18. Try 50, its been a 'tad' cool, certainly two weeks ago at -7.5 at 0930 in Villedieu Les Poeles. Bit of a temperature shock visiting from the UAE where its been really realy cold, it got down to 13 one morning - had to have the heater on in the car !!!!!!!!
19. Chrisc, What ammo - hollow point or plain jacket? Did you strap the light under the barrel? Just interested, I dont (think) I have a rabbit problem!!! Do you need a hunting licence in France?
20.
We, of course, were perfectly prepared to force ourselves to eat them, especially barbequed  on the island straight from the water. Anne
Hey, its a tough job but someone has to do it.
21. Try this web page  www.the-tree.org.uk/TreeCultivation&Uses/Firewood/firewood.htm
22. A flat plate floor rather than a barred grate is best for a wood fire, as someone early said, wood requires air across the surface wheras coal / coke needs air flowing up through the combustion from underneath. When you remove the ash, leaving a bed behind, layer the ash on your compost heap, its organic after all. When you turn your compost it wll all mix in with the other rotted down veg and do your veggies a world of good. Ash is the best ( so I believe), there is an old poem about which woods are good / bad etc but I can't remember where I saw it. Will google and post if I find it.
23. Giblet gravy, of course - what else would you use giblets for, its the best Xmas (or Chicken) dinner gravy stock possible. IMHO
24. ps. Ice on the inside of bedroom windows in Normandy as well.
