1.
remember, you cannot make playable audio discs with cd rw. Other than that, with Media Player it is fairly straightforward (or should be) Danny
[8-)]  Oh yes you can.  I have a CD-RW audio disc in my car that I change the tracks on from time to time.  I also use it in the hi-fi on the terrace.  Did you mean DVD-RW?
2. As long as you haven't moved communes then your registration will still be valid.  I checked mine a few weeks ago and I was told that it is not necessary to re-register each year unless there is a change of communes.  Worth checking with your Mairie though.
3. Sorry Val, should have mentioned you too.  Congrats Valleyboy.
4.
Bravo Sweet 17, for being one (two) of the people one can rely on!!![;-)] Let's hope there are plenty of others  who will thus achieve full integration....
I can go one further (as can TonyFDordgne) as we are both candidates for our municipal councils [;-)]
5. I took out my daughter and her friend Léa Trick or Treating, this is them afterwards sharing out the booty! (My daughter on the right with scary red eye effect)
6. Pads, I lurve your mini office, sounds brilliant but can I swap the chocolates for a family sized bag of crisps please [:D]
7.
Beautiful! What is the reason for not all of the building being reflected in the water?

Great photos David, I like the effect of the barrage on the reflections in the first  one.
My post just before yours explained it!  Barrage = weir  [;-)]  There are loads of barrages on the rivers around us so it is a familiar sight / effect.
8. Great photos David, I like the effect of the barrage on the reflections in the first  one.
9. When our new one was installed the pipework to our old one was by-passed and then it was emptied and backfilled with sand. I wouldn't have thought it would be left there to stagnate. Check with your builders.
10. We did a virtually identical trip a couple of years ago.  We stayed overnight just north of Madrid in a hotel that my parents have used on a few occassions.  It has secure parking which is useful if you have a car load of stuff and it's immediately off the main road that you will be coming down so easy to find. They have English speaking staff which is useful if your Spanish isn't up to it.  The only downside was that they don't have a restaurant and the only resto we found open at a reasonable time (ie not Spanish eating times) was the Chinese, having been driving nearly all day we just wanted to eat then sleep.  The town is called El Molar.  If you are interested I will find out what the hotel was called. Edit: I've just re-read your post - not sure if they take animals.

Parsnips

Give them a good wash and peel them, I'm sure they'll be fine [+o(] Many supermarkets and markets stalls these days seem to stock panais when in season, there doesn't seem to be the problem of supply there was 5 years ago when they were impossible to find.  They have been promoted in french cuisine magazines who are trying to popularise 'old' veg.
12.
You have to look really hard to see my husband's cat. Can't imagine it's very effective there though and might just stuff it up the exhaust to quiten things down a bit.
Lovely looking bikes.  Several friends of ours are bikers and they have bikes of this sort and yes they are quite quiet and don't appear to produce much pollution .  BUT, when I'm in my garden and a few lads from the village go up the lane on their 125cc motos I am nearly suffocated by the fumes and I'm sitting a good 75m away with the house and a big wall in between them and me and, they are very noisy too.
13. I bet Nushi thinks she's died and gone to heaven!!  They all look like they're having a lovely time.

doctor
.....has nobody else been to their doctor yet , my you are a fit lot on CF [;-)]
Yes, I've been several times in the last couple of weeks [:$] On thursday my doc asked me about it as he'd heard rumblings about the changes.  I explained the situation to him - he wasn't fully aware of the changes ahead.
15. Try the big sports stores especially Decathlon who have a hunting section.  I'm sure they have them there.  I'm going this afternoon so I'll check for you.

I'm so sad ...

Hello Frenchie, I've been following this thread but haven't yet posted.  Everytime I catch up on it I start welling up again.  Our son's are the same age (as are we) and our cat often sleeps on my son's bed too, so I can't help feeling some affinity with you. You are both in my thoughts, bon courage for the days to come <<<hugs>>> [:(]

Roses....?

I would do it now whilst the ground is warm to encourage new root growth.  In the spring the ground will have cooled over winter.
18. Hear, hear Gluestick. Judging by some of the posts on this and other forums there are quite a number of people who moved over here having done none at all.
19.
... Lunch is assured too, which she was happy about as they are serving one of her favorite meals!...
Our cantine has a 'Semaine de Gout' and they will be having Kangarou on Thursday - it would be a shame to miss it if the cantine were to be shut [:-))]
20.
Its not just about going to your local mairie once a month either, you have to stand on commissions which also meet monthly, go to exterior meetings and generally be seen to be involved especially at local funerals as a representative.
I had a meeting with the Maire today.  He did say that I would not be expected to go to 'exterior' meetings.  How involved I would be depends on what projects etc I take on.  My French is good (but far from perfect and will be learning new vocab 'til the end of my days!) I am already very involved in local village life, I have been on the Amicale Laique for 4 years as vice presidente and also on the school council so am quite used to attending and participating in meetings! I will just have to wait and see if anybody actually votes for me otherwise this is all purely hypothetical [:)]
21. More info here: http://info.france2.fr/france/35181151-fr.php and http://info.france2.fr/france/35056136-fr.php I haven't had anything home from Primaire today about it and it's a 'mecredi sans classes' tomorrow so we shall just see Thursday morning what the situation is. Son is at collège tomorrow so we'll see if he brings home a note.  Usually we would get a note from both schools saying that classes can't be 'assured' when a strike is on.
22.
On the list of people standing as councillors you can scrub off anyone you don't want, even all except one or two if you wish - its the number of votes per person that counts in the end.
Thanks for replying Val.  So given the above, in the end it doesn't really matter whose list I go on as it will be me as an individual they are voting for.  I suppose that there are 'political' reasons for being on one list over another - for example I am aware that there are quite a number of people who do not like the current Maire so being on his list may just turn them away from voting for those on his list. Good luck with your canvassing! I'm off to my meeting in an hour...
23. Val - another question for you (or any one else who may happen to know): When the people vote, do they vote for an entire list or individuals?  As yet I haven't found a definitive answer.  I have been told that they bar off the people they don't want on the council. Would it then be quite possible that the final council of 15 (as required in our sized village) could be made up of a mix of the two (or more) lists? That's what I can't seem to find an answer to. I have now been put in a rather awkward situation, in addition to the request by the current Maire to be on his list, I have now been asked to be on a second list [8-)]  I have told them that I will make a decision by the end of the month.  There is a meeting tonight with the second list and a-yet-to-be-confirmed meeting with the Maire's list next weekend.  I suppose I must chose based on what plans and projects they have for the future of the village.
24. I think what the Op means is an abri de terrace. Attached to the house or freestanding.
