1. Hi folks, thanks for your comments. Gil and Geoff, yes believe we have met - look forward to seeing you again - would you be kind enough to send me (by personal message) R&R's email address. Thanks very much
2. Hi Everyone, Just wanted to say that we will actually be moving to a little commune near La Coquille in department 24 on 7th November and apart from the administration things can't wait to become French residents. It is soooo exciting - but a bit scary too! We'd planned on making the move in about three years time but MOH has been offered a job so we are on our way - can't believe it, less than four weeks - wouldn't actually have chosen wintertime but that is how things have panned out. Any advice would be welcome. thanks
3. Hi, My husband has been offered a permanent (legit) job and we are moving over in November. Our first priority must be installing a septic tank. I understand that we need to obtain a Demande d' installation form from the Mairie to apply for permission and that in our area a lady who is known as 'Madame Sylvie' (does anyone know her surname please) will make final decision about placement of tank and filtration. Our problem is that because we have a well we will have to go under a very small (just about made up) road to place our filtration pipework in our seperated field to fulfill distance regulations. We have been told by a French neighbour that we can do the installation ourselves (my husband is a builder) and that Madame Sylvie will do checks to ensure all is to code and eventually sign off the project. The neighbour would use his JCB for the digging out for no charge and has done this many times before. Obviously this would save us a considerable amount of euros. Any advice would be very welcome.
4. Hi Alan, I will send you a personal message cos that page actually shows your control panel - still doesn't help the search facility though. Hi James, Thanks for your reply - I have always had Norton installed on my pc and have made no modifications recently.
5. Hi everyone,   Go to this site (link is below) to see something awesome! If you tease her with the mouse pointer on her chest or stomach she will purr, and I got her to meow also, by rubbing her forehead with the pointer. If you make a slow circle around her body, not only will her head/eyes follow your pointer, but toward the top, her paw will go up, and when in front of her paws at the bottom, her foot comes out like she wants to play with your mouse pointer. (Don't hold the mouse down, just move it) Enjoy!     http://www.broenink-art.nl/maukie2.swf
6. Thanks Ian for the link - but this is all that it came up with - very frustrating!!!! Thanks also for 'signing' your posting cos otherwise I wouldn't know who you are as I still have no author names. 7. Thanks Alex for the pm - appreciate you taking the time Val
8. Hi everyone, I really need to use the search facility at the moment but I have no control panel no authors names and it's really getting to me! Ron was kind enough to pm me the other day which temporarily resolved the prob, but only for about an hour. Please would someone - anyone - pm me again in the hope that it will at least allow me to search again. thanks very much
9.
I am not sure if I saw them mention the start of the restoration on this forum or another but anyway simply go to and see what has been happening since the start : http://www.chezjallot.com/ ...
Thanks Miki for posting this link. I came across the website about a year ago and was following progress then lost the bookmark. I am a bit disappointed that they seem to have removed details of progress from day one - it was even more inspirational than what was shown on channel 4!!!! Hopefully the owners will decide to put it back on the site once all the 'fame' thing has died down. They deserve to be proud of their achievements - it is a wonderful project.   edit: oops silly me - the other info is still there - must be the late night i had last night numbed my brain!!!!!!
10. Hi Everyone, don't want to cause an avalanche of comments about my stupidity but: Is there nothing like the sale of goods act for computer programmes? Or perhaps the eqivalent of Trading Standards? Seems to me that Living France have been sold a dud!!! It's probably unfair for admin to have to put up with all our complaints but on the other hand, if they paid good money for something they should be able to expect it to work to a reasonable standard without having just  60 day technichal support available as stated by Will on the other thread. Are they (the programme producers) hoping that dissatisfied customers (LF) will just accept a less than perfect product - I cannot believe that our members are the only users having problems.  Just like to add my thanks to administrators for trying so hard to keep things going -  hope something is sorted before toooo long.
11. Ha Ha Opas, very funny - or are you trying to tell me that you never say anything at all! And I thought that at least 50% of your postings made sense!!!!!   edit: oops - first time I looked there were no details at all - soooooorry - but actually it is very amusing.
12. Hi everyone, It seems a shame that everyone's profiles dissappeared with the old forum - please would you all think about filling them in - It was nice to know something about posters and where people are posting from.   Editor's note!! hey admin,  how come my number of posts has stayed at 25 - bad enough that I lost them all with the forum change - but now they've stopped growing on this forum too!!!!
13. Hi Annie, I really feel for you - had a similar situation about 20 years ago - three prospective buyers all fell victim to acts of God  - did eventually sell that house and then sold the next house (about 3 years later)  to a solicitor who somehow managed to offer full asking price, do searches, draw up contracts and complete all in ONE MORNING!! Luckily for me he wanted the house for visiting barristers so allowed us to remain in the house for three months until we relocated to another part of the UK. Don't know which was the most stressful to be honest! Did come to the conclusion that both situations happened for a reason although I can only see that in retrospect. All the best - Hope the right person comes along SOON.
14. Hi everyone, We have a place very close to La Coquille and would really appreciate it if any forum members who live close by would post or pm me if you experience any really extreme weather conditions (wind!) during the winter months as we are stuck here in the UK. We have friends in other areas who we can then ask to check our place for us - bit concerned about the roof! thanks in advance
15. Thanks to all who responded to my question. seems like I named this topic absolutely correctly - feel like a complete idiot to have made such stupid assumption. Never mind - you live and learn!! by the way , Idealfrance mentions POS - please can someone tell me what this is Idealfrance |
16. 'most of France does not have broadband, and out in the middle of nowhere, where I live, we will never get it. Do we really need all these yellow circle things that also take forever to set up?'   hi everyone, Message for Toucan - you can avoid waiting for 'round yellow things' to load by going to: control panel click forum settings choose basic options and click update. this will give you a less fancy box to post your message in. Also allows the cut and paste facility. I don't like this new format either - very user unfriendly - text too small - tooooo slow - plus it appears that we all have to renew details in our profiles as they seem to have been lost in the changeover. Sorry to admin for the moans as I don't suppose there is much you can do to make it better - stands to reason you have put a lot of effort into producing site and it's upkeep - seems very ungracious of us members to be ungrateful!!!! Just wanted to point out that I do have broadband and a very fast machine - the prob is not with my pc!
17. Hi Jennybrown, This may be the link you were looking for - but if not , it's a great site. go to: http://www.golimousin.net/ click 'enter the renovation site' at the bottom of page and click glossary in reference pages in the left hand column.
18.
Hello You talk about a cu which is a certificate de urbanisation which gives you permission to develop the land you have to have a permis de construire (detailed planning permission) to actually buil...
Hi DunrunninDunrunnin |  Thank you for your reply - got a feeling we've made a boo-boo. Before purchase, which included clause suspensif (sp) for planning consent being obtained for renovation of house and for converting seperate barn into habitation, immobilier emailed to say she had received Certificat D'Urbanism Positif. CU includes this paragraph: Demande precisant I'operation projetee. Nature de I'operation RENOVATION DES BATIMENTS EXISTANTS EN HABITATION immobilier stated in email:  It is positive to renovate all buildings in habitation. Now assume this means just the house which was already vaguely habitable. I suspect this means we have to go back to square one!!! Obviously one of those situations where you read what you expect it to say
19. Hi everyone, Please, could one of you give me a run down of re-applying for outline planning permission. The simpler the  explanation the better! Ours expires in November and, as we won't be commencing major works until next year, we assumed we would need to renew. However, we were told by a local (registered) builder that, as long as we have done 'something' (which we have) the CU will automatically continue beyond the expiry date. He suggests that just having building materials delivered and stored on site is enough. This seems too good to be true and we don't want to fall foul of the rules - hopefully one of the more knowledgeable forum members (Val 2 perhaps) can advise us. Thanks in advance.
20. Hi everyone, Ryanair have a good deal at the moment. London Stansted to most French airports for 50p - about £15 including taxes each way. Book by midnight tomorrow 6/9/04 and fly from 17/9/04 to 10/2/05. Halfterm time 21st - 31st Oct and 18th Dec - 5th Jan 05 are blackout periods. You have to juggle the dates around to find the cheapest days but there are lots available. Hope you find this helpful
21. hi everyone, We used Speedferries out on 30th July and back on 22nd August. We were pleasantly surprised at the service and efficiency shown on both trips. No delays, pleasant staff, clean and reasonably comfortable. We arrived in Boulogne early and were able to get on an earlier sailing at an additional cost of £40 - this made the total return cost just £90 - still £75 cheaper than the best quote I got from P&O. I'm definately not complaining and will always try to use them in the future. Any new service is bound to have a few hiccoughs and of course they are always at the mercy of the weather! Perhaps we were just lucky in our experiences but can't help wondering if we've all got used to accepting 'less than perfect' service and value for money from other companies. Keep it up Speedferries
22.
I am also in whinge mood as it is raining and wanted to finish staining outside windows and wash the bedding etc etc etc,so i thought i`ll have 1/2 hour on LF.........still can`t sign on without going...
hi Opas, but at least you have your status as a 'supreme being' , I've lost my posts and have been downgraded to a 'junior member'  sob! sob! regards val
23. Hi everyone - nice to be back - but need to whinge!!! new forum is soooooo difficult to read - text too small, not enough contrast between text and background colour. I agree with just about every other complaint regarding slooowness and user friendliness. Mind you I always hate anything different until I get used to it!!! Regards Val ps I feel very hard done by - can I have my posts back please!!!
24. Hi Phil, looks as if you'll have a wonderful set-up one day - loved your humour and look forward to further updates. Just one complaint - I found the red background really hard on the old mince pies! Regards, Val 99 & 24
