  1. Thankyou Teamedup et al. Much obliged. Whiskers
  2. Thank you, thank you, Mr Ron Avery. Nice that someone bothered to reply. I'd obviously been given the wrong information. Thank you again! Whiskers
  3. Hello nice people I'm in the process of working out what medical cover we require when moving to France later this year. Having spent ages searching the Forum - I can find endless comments to "get in touch with Newcastle" - but I cannot find any weblink or phone numbers. Who the hecky peck does one cannot? Even a Google search for DHSS Newcastle doesn't give me anything useful. I believe we need a E106 form? 2 adults, no particular ailments or special needs. Why are "Newcastle" so hard to find? Arggggh. Thankyou! Whiskers
  4. Hello Well I do hope it is just mice.  We had probs with Pinemartins in our roof space.  Blimey, what a noise they made (the weight of young children) scampering about at all hours of the night, scaring my pants off. It was down to some very helpful forum members that I found out what they were in the end. We had to eventually lure them away with a trail of honey, seal up the roof cavities and hey presto, all OK. Good luck, and enjoy. Whiskers
  5. Blimey!   When we signed for our place last year, the Notaire, Agent and translator dashed out of the door the moment the ink had dried.  No niceties at all.  We expected the Notaire or Agent to say congratulations to us.  A smile would have been nice!  We would have happily taken them all for a drink or something, but nothing...... They disappeared!    Mind you, as another person said, we just wanted to drive straight to the property (check the keys worked!) and celebrate in private, so no big deal really...  My sister received a hard-backed full glossy A4 book on the region plus a bottle of vintage champagne from her Agent when buying in France.   They still get Xmas cards from them 3 years later!    Everyone's experiences are different! Congratulations to you - I hope your move is successful!
  6. Hello Coffeepotdi I dream that I might sell my UK home before I park my clogs (coming up to 2 years since we first put it on the market!).  I wish I could be our French farmhouse, bought some years ago, and not stuck in commuter traffic on the way to a unsatisfactory job.  I also wish your daughter good health. 7. Hello I don't suppose I could have the details too? Thanks very much.   Whiskers
  8. This topic may indeed have been written about 20 billion times already but my point is.... whenever I try and 'search' on a subject I get a whole page of pants -nothing relevant whatsoever.  It is often said on the Forum that such and such a question has already been answered before - 'do a search', but when you type in, e.g. 'health requirements'  nothing relevant comes up.  I have tried again and again to find simple information on health, tax and vehicle issues but I can never find it.  Surely one doesn't have to scroll through 2 years of back pages in the hope of finding something useful.  Thanks for your help!
  9. Phew - thanks for that!  Could have been embarrassing....
  10. .....for the unenlightened, what French tradition...? doh..
  11. Ooohhhh..... thank you Opas, French, Jennifer, Will, Val and Martin et al for your responses.  I really DO feel better now - and I'm grateful for your good wishes.  The Forum is like a big, snuffly-wuffly, snuggly family - all looking out for each other.  (I can't believe I wrote that). I'm sure I'll get a buyer soon - I hope to be in France BEFORE I need a bath-chair and ear-trumpet. Thanks again and good luck in your lives. Whiskers x
  12. Spot on, Penny!  Thanks for your comments.  I (sort of) feel a tad better now..... in that I'm not the only one on this planet to have suffered this. Thanks et bon weekend!
  13. Thanks Georgina, but have done all that.  (I'm an interior designer and have sold many properties over the years!).  My original point was that I'd been unlucky with the buyers - one had a fire (as mentioned before), another's mother fell down a hole in Australia so he had to rush out and help her through several months of convalesence (understandably, of course), another lost his job and couldn't afford to buy it, etc., etc.,   I'm of course grateful for the helpful suggestions, but its more about the bad luck I've had, rather than the house/price, etc. By the way, whats the weather like in France at the moment - radiators full-on in NW England! Thanks again. Envious, bitter and twisted of UK
