1. I deliberately broadcast my WiFi to a friend using a WiFi access point, you need to be careful on the security front. This does depend on you location - ie very rural surrounded by farmers no problem. But Scarco's new law does make the owner of the source of connection responsible, in my case I turn the WiFi off when friend is away and young son alone to use my connection.  bon chance
2.
I wasn't going to contribute, but I feel I must. ......... And a bit less childlike behaviour on the part of some forum members wouldn't go amiss either.
I agree, with you Judith.... shouldn't we all be outside enjoying our pools rather than following this silly discussion thread. I think Andrew's contributions are of value to the forum as a whole, so I am off for a swim !!
3. -I would council caution here, while and SD card feels and looks like a disc drive I have experienced problems treating said device as a disc - I once (for amusement but will not do this again) defragmented an SD card - promptly lost all of the stored images !! So my advice would be to back up all of the content first then give it a try !! bon courage Stu-le-brew
4. I would recommend Frederiqua Ferrand in Villefranche-de-rouerge, (but not her father who is at the same location) her English language really excellent too ! Stu-le-brew
5. I do not know if this will help, but my setup has a vent on top of the sand filter, which I use periodically to vent air - just like your situation ? bon courage Stu the brew
6. one thought, was the printer turned on (and connected properly) while you started the system ? some times windows can loose the plot also worth trying unplugging the printer connection cable and reconnecting it
7. my pleasure, the max range for free chlorine is anything up to two/three ish any more and you start to smell it and can feel it in the eyes, from memory commercial pools can me much higher 5 plus, but in a commercial pool many people can't be bothered to get out for a pee !! Yes by normal I mean 'lent' tablets (about 8/9cm diameter) BTW if you ever start to get a reading of no chlorine when you know there is some, it can indicate an excess of cyanuric acid, which is a stabiliser used to slow usage of chlorine - if this ever happens you either have to dump water (maybe half the volume) or switch to using both chlorine and choc without cyanuric (then dump the water at the end of the season - note there is no other way to remove excess cyanuric) enough of talking about it time to get in me thinks !!!!
8. Hi Paisleyface and welcome I can still remember (five years ago now!!) my first problems with the pool (it went very green three days after moving in), spent many hours researching on the net to get to where I am now with a crystal clear pool which is always very inviting. The most important thing IMO is PH it should be 7.2 to 7.6 ish much outside this range the effectiveness of chlorine is reduced (possibly to zero). The PH at this time of year seems to increase progressively over a period so you need to keep adjusting the PH down. When the PH is in range I would recommend shocking (choc) the water first then continue with normal chlorine blocks. You can use multifunction blocks '4 in1' or '5 in 1' which have various other chemicals but should not be necessary. I did use them for the first three years with good results, but you can end up adding chemicals to treat problems you don’t have and too much can create other problems. Over a period of time 10days to two weeks Chlorine becomes locked and has no effect so you will need to use choc to release it to become effective again. Your comment that the 'free/total chlorine reading' is zero confuses me a little as they are two different readings i.e. high total chlorine and no free means time to choc - the reverse would indicate you just did choc. I don’t know what test kit you use I have just moved to one that uses test strips to tests for five different readings. Some people recommend using electronic devices to perform highly accurate tests. Personally I remain to be convinced that decimal places of accuracy is actually needed hope this helps you 'bon chance'
9. I have been using Currencies Direct for five years now, no problems with the service, they do charge a flat fee of £15 for the transaction and the rate is always much better than tourist rate but depends on amount to be transfered
10. good luck to you ErnieY, I also have found a way round the sillyness of PayPal
11. I am no expert, particularly given the recent changes but you should be interested in how long your E106 will last - normally 2 years can be a little longer. This length is dependant on your work history in Britain and the DHSS, it is only when this expires that you will have to find health cover. An E121 is cover for fully retired people I think Hope that helps One additional check you should make for your business is availability of ADSL where your house in France is, I came a bit of a cropper here had to go back to dialup for the first three years here
12. My main concern would be the pump, and any other electrical bits (eg timer for pump), but if its working now you may just be lucky
13. I have visited (on reccomendation from a friend) a vineyard in Gaillac region in a place called Noailles exccelent selection of wine especially the 'Perle' - slightly spakling white wine - sorry can't remember the name but its a very small ville so you should find it easily. bon chance P.S. you may care to trake a look at http://www.tourisme-tarn.com  they even have curcuit du Vignoble Gailloise that you can download
14. As I understand it you would have to comply if you sold the house, this is the only check Personally I still think this is a stupid law, what if you lived next to a river/lake/the sea no alarm is neccessary - you would have to apply common sence I am sure this has already been said before I do not have an alarm and have no intension of getting one, thought I would use my winter cover (which does comply) if I were to leave the house unattended for a long time. 15. I persanal have used Currencies Direct many times, who have been very helpful, the rate you will get depends on the ammount to be converted. I would reccomend them, however there are others offering this service, suggest looking through one of the French English newspapers for alternatives Regards Stu the brew P.S. their website is http://www.currenciesdirect.com/uk/
16. Hi I also have used 123-reg.co.uk, for domain registration and site hosting and have been pleased with the service. In answer to you question regarding EMail addresses, you can select many options to forward emails to an existing email account even if you only register the domain name and have no site hosting hope this helps Stu the brew
17. Welcome to the wonderful world of pool chemistry, it is most important that you balance the PH before adding any chlorine, as I understand chlorine will not work unless the PH is correct ie between 7.2 and 7.6ish Personally I would leave the pool till it gets a bit warmer (it snowed here this morning) good luck from the Lot (dept 46) Stu the brewer
18. Hi, Well when we first arrived in France I used my Laptop with a mobile phone (talking to a UK ISP) this is expensive and very slow (9.6Kbytes) but does keep you in touch with the rest of the world. This is the only sensible way forward, other than using a two way satellite link which would be very expensive indeed. normally you would only uses satellite for the download and then your would need a phone line for the up link hope this makes sence best regards Stu in the Lot
19. Hi Kiwi, I have sent your an EMail with details of a friend who may be able to help regards Stuart....
20. I also have had no problems with Outlook Express and Wanadoo, after initial setting up it has worked fine. I would have thought that Outlook and Outlook Exp would use the same EMail software (although who knows with Microsoft). What is the exact detail of your problem ?? regards Stuart
21. LAST EDITED ON 28-Dec-03 AT 11:25 AM (GMT) Hi, I am also very interested in this service - more for the Broad band than TV (as I already have UK Sky). I have found a website (www.cubsat.com) which offers this service but the details seem very vague to me - also hampered by my poor French.
