1.
Whenever I order anything in France over the internet I always, always check for user reviews on sites like Kelkoo, as a lot of the very cheap sellers have a rather haphazard approach to customer service. This is what they have to say about Multidiscount (and read some of the comments from customers). http://fr.kelkoo.com/b/a/m_3477723_multidiscount.html
Where on Kelkoo is the list of 'marchands' so I can checkout other sellers websites. I have looked everywhere and cant find it. A search for the seller just brings up all the products. Thanks - Tony
2. How stable is your current floor. Does it move when you walk on it or just look rubbish. If its not too bad, and doesn't actually flex, fix down any loose boards then firmly screw sheets of half inch waterproof plywood all over, then tile over that. You can also buy a special latex tile adhesive (and grout) to cater for any small movement after that. This route was recommended to by a tiler when I did my bathroom in the UK and was still fine when I moved out 5 years later Bon Chance - Tony
3. Imagine a room with a floor area 3 metres x 3metres ( about 10 foot square) If its roughly normal height of about 2.5 metres then the total is 22.5 cubic metres. i.e can you get almost everything you want to take into a 10ft square room. Hope that helps P.S The company quoting for 25 cu.m. will certainly charge extra per cu.m. over the 25. I would also check with the other two quotes re volume unless they have seen exactly what you are taking.  Tony
4. Report from 23 Creuse - well, electricity now back on after a 60 hour blackout. Phone was also out the last 24hrs. We are at 500m and had a good 2 foot of standing snow, but a lot more in drifts. Even lower lying areas had 18-24 inches. I understand the power blackout covered large areas and is still off in some places. Fortunately we have a gas cooker but central heating packed up as the fuel and water pumps are electric. Won't have a wood burner till later this year (now on urgent list before next winter). Had to rely on a single parafin heater. Local farmer now cleared the worst of the snow on the road through the village so I will attempt to get out tomorrow. All the locals say they have never seen so much snow fall in one continuous 24hr period Oh the joys of living in rural France. Hope everyone else is Ok Tony
5.
It would appear from what you say that your insurance agent may have been involved in some very sharp practice. Regarding the renewal notice, this is a bit of a mystery.  The notice will have been generated by AXA HQ and normally sent direct to your home address to arrive at least two weeks before the renewal date, so that matches the issue date of the notice.  The botton half of the renewal notice contains the statutory declaration of your rights under the Loi Chatel - giving you a limited period in which to cancel. This right is extended in your favour if the notice arrives after the due date, so you aren't necessarily disadvantaged if they are late getting the notices out. I suspect that this agent may have received the renewal notice to post on to you and he has forgotten to do it, and has torn off the bottom of your notice to avoid you knowing of your cancellation rights.  On the face of it, this is a serious matter and if the scenario is correct, then the agent may have broken the law in a number of areas.
I have house insurance with Axa which was due for renewal 1/1/07 and experienced the same set of circumstances. Christmas Eve the renewal notice arrived minus the tear off slip. I assumed it was to prevent me cancelling. As I am happy with the policy I ignored it but they won't get away with that next year! I wonder if many Axa agents do this ? Tony
6. Sc& Baz - used both your suggestions and restarted Pc - sems Ok now. Will kep an eye on it Thanks - Tony

8.

Does anyone know how to access the option to get IE7 to 'check for newer version of web page every visit'. Just realised that since I changed from IE6 a few days ago my homepage was 4 days old. I know I can manually refresh but would like it on auto. Have looked in all the obviously places but d*mned if I can find it . Thanks - Tony
Tools/Internet Options/General/Browsing History Settings/Check for newer versions of stored web pages
Found it and changed settings to check for new pages every time. Really wierd, my homepage BBC still doesn't auto refresh. All other web pages seem Ok, its just my homepage. Does anyone have any suggestions.

10. The recent white paper on pensions will affect the prediction if fully adopted into law. For a change it seems to be positive, in that you will require a lower number of years for a full pension Tony
11. You minkey just pee'd on my log (he is anglais with bad french pronunciation)
12. Piccy is too small to see but I assume its two planes heading for each other and turning away. Trouble is that at that distance/altitude they could be a thousand feet apart laterally and also altitude
13. How many cubic metres have you used. Thats an easier guide for all to see if your consumption is average
14.
TP, is Defender finished or still in Beta ?
I downloaded and installed the finished version a few days ago after running beta 2 for 4 months. No problems and seems to work well. Tony
15.
63 Centimes.  oh and blue
Oh I'm confused now. For 20g I thought it was 55 centimes (red) for France and 60 centimes (blue) for Uk. That's what La Poste sold me the other day Tony
16. I have a Uk PAYG. Calls are expensive, but for true emergency use only then it works out cheap, as the credit does not expire provided you use the phone for a quick call every 6 months. Plus if you visit the Uk as I do a couple of times a year you have a phone to use there. Tony
17. If it is truly sans engagement then I would cancel immediately. FT also have a standard 12cent connection charge, some other providers don't, but calls are usually more expensive than other cheapie providers.70 something cents for uk mobile is just ridiculous. I use Phone Expat, NOT the cheapest and they do charge the 12ct connection but calls anywhere in France are less than one cent a minute and 3 cents to the UK 24/7. Uk mobile is about 35cts per min I believe. I chose them because of bilingual communication, monthly fully itemised bills by e-mail, no codes etc to dial, sans engagement and its a lot cheaper than FT.
18. Don't forget to contact DWP in Newcastle in good time to apply for an E106. This will give you a maximum of two years free from CPAM contributions (you will still need a top up insurance) as the Uk will pick up the tab for that period
19. The wall plug is different but the phone end is the same as Uk. All we did was to buy a new lead with French plug one end and plug the other end straight into the phone in place of Uk lead. Our UK Panasonic cordless set works fine. Tony
20. From the Lapeyre website - 224 euros for the window and about another 50 for the flashing kit. Tony
21. It passed through our area on Friday, and very enjoyable to. Sadly upon reading todays regional newspaper the headlines were that a marshal was killed near La Jonchere on the evening run of stage 2 ( about 5km from my viewing point) when a car overturned and crushed him against a house wall. It narrowly missed many spectators and children.
22. Hi All, Is it just me but for the last couple of days when I log into the site the 'not read' tab at the top brings up no new posts every time. There obviously are new posts and I can read them via the 'active' tab. Anyone else getting the same thing ?? Tony
