  3. Another good tip is don't play with it, stick it on wait till it's done on side one trun it and don't fiddle till it is finished. Regards Simon
  4. Is there enough space in the conduits to shove some plastic ones down them? Simon
  5. I'm a little unclear what is wrong from your description, but if you think you have a connection, but cannot get at anything then that could be a dns issue. Try starting a dos box and typing ping 212.158.192.2 you should see "Reply from ..." a few times. If you get "Request timed out" then it isn't dns. If it is dns then your IP settings are off, check those and see if that helps the problem. Regards Simon
  6. I think I can answer that, it is because we holiday makers have a limited amount of time. I tend to arrive chez moi late Friday, Saturday and Sunday everything is shut. Monday is the first day you can get at what you need. Things brought from the UK are usually dearer, but at least you can get started 2 days earlier. Regards Simon
  7. Just out of interest, why are UK MCBs and RCDs unsuitable, is it down to trip settings: if so why do the French and UK use different standards? Regards Simon
  8. Hi Dick You are right of course, Apple lossless like FLAC is a considerable surge in quality from compressed media, however 100 tracks on a CD! You must be able to hear the difference with that? All MP3's are flawed due to the fact they drop bits (of the sound) to reduce the size of the file. The slim devices sb2 plays all the formats including apple lossless. I don't have anything to do with the company, but I do own 2 of their product, 1 each side of the channel. Regards Simon
  9. Apart from the fact that iTunes are not really HiFi... have a look at http://www.slimdevices.com Regards Simon
  10. ...and get some knee pads. Simon
  11. Get yourself a squeezebox and listen via broadband through your own hifi system. http://www.slimdevices.com/ regards Simon
  12. Or, buy a bottle of Zubrowka from your local supermarket for only €13, stick it in the freezer for 24 hours, and drink neat. The trouble with most so called quality vodkas is that they report to be polish, russian etc, but are usually made in the UK! It's an outrage, scandal etc etc Regards Simon
  13. How to rid yourself of edible doormice? The clue is in the question. Regards Simon
  14. You can stick the card in the reciever, take down all the necessary details and then ring Sky when you get back; remember to leave the sky box switched on. As the operator talks you through the activation process, you just read out what you have written down - how's your acting? As I recall, you will need all the card numbers, plus all the numbers from the sky box - serial number, version number, etc. Just write down everything you see on the screen. To obtain these details go to the "Services" menu, then "System Setup", then "System Details", in this menu all the information required will be displayed on the screen. regards Simon
  15. You may be interested in this site, it has a lot of advice on decks and their construction. I'm not sure if they deliver across the water though. http://www.decksupply.co.uk regards Simon

  19. Looking at the original question, what is the problem with your current system Flora? Is it the functions of XP you do not like or is it just broken? Regards Simon
  20. Apologies for the length of this posting, but it is a cracker... Taken from the Guardian, an actual letter sent by the Inland Revenue: Dear Mr Addison, I am writing to you to express our thanks for your more than prompt reply to our latest communication, and also to answer some of the points you raise. I will address them, as ever, in order. Firstly, I must take issue with your description of our last as a "begging letter". It might perhaps more properly be referred to as a "tax demand". This is how we, at the Inland Revenue have always, for reasons of accuracy; traditionally referred to such documents. Secondly, your frustration at our adding to the "endless stream of crapulent whining and panhandling vomited daily through the letterbox on to the doormat" has been noted. However, whilst I have naturally not seen the other letters to which you refer I would cautiously suggest that their being from "pauper councils, Lombardy pirate banking houses and pissant gas-mongerers" might indicate that your decision to "file them next to the toilet in case of emergencies" is at best a little ill-advised. In common with my own organisation, it is unlikely that the senders of these letters do see you as a "lackwit bumpkin” or, come to that, a "sodding charity". More likely they see you as a citizen of Great Britain, with a responsibility to contribute to the upkeep of the nation as a whole. Which brings me to my next point. Whilst there may be some spirit of truth in your assertion that the taxes you pay "go to shore up the canker-blighted, toppling folly that is the Public Services", a moment's rudimentary calculation ought to disabuse you of the notion that the government in any way expects you to "stump up for the whole damned party" yourself. The estimates you provide for the Chancellor's disbursement of the funds levied by taxation, whilst colourful, are, in fairness, a little off the mark. Less than you seem to imagine is spent on "junkets for Bunterish lickspittles" and "dancing whores" whilst far more than you have accounted for is allocated to, for example, "that box-ticking façade of a university system." A couple of technical points arising from direct queries: 1. The reason we don't simply write "Muggins" on the envelope has to do with the vagaries of the postal system; 2. You can rest assured that "sucking the very marrows of those with nothing else to give" has never been considered as a practice because even if the Personal Allowance didn't render it irrelevant, the sheer medicallogistics involved would make it financially unviable. I trust this has helped. In the meantime, whilst I would not in any way wish to influence your decision one way or the other, I ought to point out that even if you did choose to "give the whole foul jamboree up and go and live in India" you would still owe us the money. Please forward it by Friday. Yours Sincerely, H J Lee Customer Relations ...brilliant Regards Simon
  21. I've just paid £290 from Portsmouth to Cherbourg on the BF fastcat. Speedferries Dover to Boulogne just £50 for the same dates! Now I know that it is a bit further, but £240 further? regards Simon
  22. My french neighbour was a "Non", talking to him about it it struck me that the reasons he was giving were nothing to do with the actual constition document. Sad day for Europe. regards Simon
  23. Here's why... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4552197.stm Regards Simon
  24. Hi you may find this site useful http://www.ippec.co.uk/ regards Simon
  25. Political views aside, it was both funny and freshing to see the American panel squirm at George's response to their report. If they had been on firmer ground I am sure he would not have made mincemeat over them the way he did. I hope they make it a TV series. Regards Simon
