1. Dave, Suppose it depends how floppy the door is when its closed, maybe something with a claw would be suitable, look at the link below, might give you an idea. http://www.locksonline.co.uk/acatalog/Sliding_Door_Locks_.html
2.
What happened to the red, white and blue smoke?
Cutbacks, can't afford coloured fuel. Notice Beckham's shaver wasn't working.
3. Last year I was watching England play footie on tv. I opted to watch via French TV and the audio via Radio5 live ( due to the YTS person employed by the BBC working the tv audio, they preferred to let you hear the ball being kicked or the crowd cheering instead of the commentary) anyway someone scored a goal, heard it on Radio5 live and a few seconds later the picture showed the goal.
4. Well just logged in and everything is working normally . Didn't touch anything in outlook express. Must have been their end.
5. If its your email at orange.fr I have the same problem, their servers may be down. I'd leave it till tomorrow.
6. I had a similar problem once with my mower, it was the first use when we got there one spring  after being stored over winter in the barn, it just wouldn't turn over, the battery was ok so I started looking deeper. Found there are a few micro switches scattered around the mower, under the seat on the brake/clutch pedal, cutter deck to check its disengaged etc. searched them out and sprayed with WD 40 left it for a bit and worked the switches, got it going in the end. Good luck
7.
Bricodepot's website only gives the location of their stores.
If you go to their site, click on cuisine, it will ask for store location, give this, it will then return to the main page, click on cuisine again and it will open pages of kitchen units etc. Steve
8.
I wonder how many more of these potholes are still waiting for me to fall into? [:)]
Got another one for you then. Don't use padlocks on doors, however big the padlock is. They (Insurance Co.) need a proper lock in the door with a key, another little gem we got caught out on. We had 2 big boys padlocks on the workshop door,  they somehow managed to cut them, ( the bolt cutters must have been huge) then cleared out the workshop, tools plus the mower.
9. Sid, Get its own insurance anyway. We got done  this way a few years back, although our mower doesn't go on the road we thought it came under the contents insurance, well it went walkies by persons unknown one night when we were in the UK. Insurance company wouldn't play ball at all, so it was a big loss for us. We replaced the sit on and now have it insured on its own for theft etc (like a car) not too expensive 61 euros last year,  and we also get a nice little green insurance sticker we attach to the mower. Insurance company is Pacifica on both instances.
10. Why not put antifreeze in the pipes and save yourself a lot of money.
11. Reminds me of the news a few years ago that BAA were going to use the reservoirs around Heathrow  to enable planes to land on them, they wanted to put ski's on the planes. They said it would save having to replace the runways every few years. LEO, will the course be in English or French.
12. Although we haven't retired fully to France, we spend up to 3 months at a time there, I think we have cracked it, i'm out in the garden cutting grass etc working in  the workshop making things,  and she is indoors reading her books. Steve
13. Dave I think it will have to be programmed at a Peugeot dealer its linked to the car, but as its an old one you may be lucky. You might try a forum that could help with info, its called  Frenchcarforum.co.uk they are the boys who can give you info, although its based in the UK all thing French are the same. There are different links to Citreon, Peugeot, Renault. You will have to register but they can be used in the future.  I have seen new bodies for the plipper on Ebay you just pop the circuit into the new body. Good luck Steve
14. Think Sue might be asking about the Health side of Travel Insurance. IE. if you broke something and had to be admitted to hospital etc? or something like that.
15. Davef, Yes it can be done, we have a de dietrich chauffe eau that I fitted, it is the type that can heat the water by electricity or via hot water going through the coil in the heater. The element is  three phase but the instructions supplied shows how you can wire it up on a single phase supply. (unfortunately the instructions are in France, and I'm in the UK at the mo) Below is a link to de dietrich's site where you can download PDF instructions for one of their heaters, it shows the electric connections for three phase and single phase. Might give you some idea. Can't guarantee it will work or will be safe on your system.  We have used the heater for the past 3 years with no problem. Only muck about with this if you are confident. 16.
Thank you for your reply Is that amount for second homes?
Afraid so, think its meant for anyone who may have more then one holiday home in France, they may be able to offset the fee between properties.  But don't quote me. Its something I also had a second look at once. If you have a television  just chuck the letter in the bin, if no tele send it back duly ticked in the correct box. It is listed separately on the form, but they take the full amount for both under the one heading. Steve
17. If you do it via one of their shops they want docs, proof of address and identity (passport) that's what we were told when we first inquired at the local FT shop. But in the end we telephoned the English line from the UK and did it that way, if I can remember they did send some paperwork to our home in the UK but I think that was for the direct debit. One thing we were impressed about was the speed they could arrange the line and the helpfulness of the English speaker. Go for it. Steve Edit. Might be an idea to check that you can actually get broadband if you want it, we are too far away from the exchange to get it, if you have near neighbours check it on their number.
18. Just been up to Metro Bank in Fulham and opened a current account with them, we confirmed with them before proceeding that withdrawals in Europe were fee free and no loading was put on the rate, once confirmed we continued to open the account. We got our new debit card there and then, cheque book comes in a few days through the post. We will still be using a Nationwide credit card for purchases whilst in France. as it is deferred credit. The  money we used to put in Nationwides Flexaccount  now goes into Metro, but we'll keep our Flexaccount open for now with just a small amount in there. Metro Bank said they have had a lot of people opening accounts that have transferred from Nationwide due to their new terms. We will see how they perform. Steve
19.
Well, I do hope you are researching all the ins and outs with a view to buying one for your wife's birthday!
No !! she is much too busy.
20. Just found out you can buy these in Tesco, both the wifi and the 3G ones.
21. Or if you fancy a Masterchief one. http://www.officialproducts.tv/product.php/382/76/masterchef-apron
22. A few years ago I needed a spare belt for the mower whilst in France, yes it broke. We went to the place where we purchased the mower (BricoMarche) and asked about a belt, they ordered one for us, when we went back to collect it the price given was lets say expensive for a belt, we declined their offer and left the shop. For a while we used a firm in Kent, Medway Power Transmission.  But for this year I looked around a bit. Just been  on each of the sites given above by Dave/Olive and Jay and put a dummy order in for 2 belts. Jays--- Bearing Boy £70.42 inc post and vat         ............Marksman £75.96 inc post and vat Dave/Olive  Bearing Boy again £75.96 I paid £60.73 for the two belts inc post and vat they were delivered the next day via Royal  Mail. Quality of the belts is A1, actually made by Medway. The firm we used is Usbagricultural supplies Based in Basildon, they use Ebay as an outlet for their goods. As I wanted two belts I emailed them about combining the postage, they replied, e-mail us direct and we'll give you a good price.  Items were paid via Paypal. Their phone number 01268 449364       [email protected] Steve PS I have no connection with them.
23. Quick question I have just purchased a couple of belts for my sit-on, was impressed with the price and service of the firm. (in the UK)  Are we allowed to name the company, or is that classed as advertising? Steve
24. Did it a year or so ago, no problem very easy, in fact easier then popping into a local FT shop in France. Steve
25. Chris, You sure she will be able to access the e-mail and read it. Good luck mate. Steve
