1. Hopefully this forum doesn't turn into a sort of "Big brother" where views considered contrary to those of the ruling class result in banishment to the boggy fringes of civilisation, brainwashing or being cast into oblivions' blackness.[:P]   I have not always agreed with posters but would be dismayed if any of us were "gagged" or cast out simply for disagreeing on a forum.   Perhaps one of the moderators has read too much into "Animal Farm" and thinks he is Napoleon[:)]
2. It's a great pocket money job if you can live on your pension without needing extra income
3. Report in "Times" ( Weds.8th March 2006 - Page 4 )- well a brief paragraph alluding to falling house prices in Med. area. Report by Royal Institurtion of Chartered Surveyors who had studied 18 countries. They stated that greatest house price rises, last year, were in Estonia and Denmark at 28% and 22% respectively. TV programme effect maybe ?   And a reason to be North of the Loire

5. We have this debate about second home owners in Cornwall and point to the many winter ghost villages due to absent owners. Now Croatia and other countries will see their local people priced out of the market by second home owners. But what is the cure - Economic collapse? Property crash? revolution? What happens when first time buyers are no longer able to mount the first rung of the ladder? Having been around a long time I can forsee tears resulting from this fad of mass second home ownership. Bet Prescott could solve the housing requirements of many property owning or renting hopefuls. It seems he aims a dart at a map of the UK and say " EE - oop - build 10000 there"................. Apologies for bad accent
6. Hi, Can anyone point me to sources of long term rentals (12 months +) in above area in order that my wife and I can research area for retirement property (reasonable priced B+B property maybe)?
7. Furry - are you pissed? - the coloured ink is difficult to read !
8. The greedy will buy their second homes and push property prices beyond the reach of locals until, one day, the bubble bursts.
9. The campsite man gave the impression he was talking but not listening to the mayoress. His body language was interesting, in fact they both leaned away from each other, and he would speak but not look at her whilst doing so. A bit of Ronnie Barker re the phantom sign snatcher of ye olde ville methinks Villagers seemed to resent being excluded from camp events albeit campsite man said he put up posters (promptly nicked by above phanom?). A brochure through doors of locals might have been better?
10. We could have dead letter boxes in the local town hall in which to post names of those working on the black or thieves or those that drive around in vehicles not complying with the law ( no insurance etc)   (Didn't the Italians have such a system a few hundred years ago?)
11. Will these riots cause a reduction in house prices?
12. Will these riots cause a reduction in house prices?
13. Don't forget Italy - one could always consider Italy as a retirement destination
14. Consider renting out your property in the UK  and rent a property in France for a year to see if France ( or anywhere else) suits you
15. As already stated - people have posted on this forum regarding being "bored." Others have run out of money trying to renovate houses in an attempt to copy those television programmes peddling dreams to the restless. Unemployment here is high. The great majority of people coming here, pre TV dream peddling, did so as retired persons prepared to live on their pensions. Sadly, many think a gite is the answer to creating an income with the result that it seems that a position of oversupply exists whereby too many gites chase too few clients. Remember that many people not of retirement age find starting a new life in France, finding a job etc to be very difficult. The net result being, if they can afford it, to sell up and return to the UK.
16.
It was in Ouest France one day last week. Several days before the Sunday Times anyway. They don't know who did it. Just like they don't know who is doing atrocious things to the animals on the Swis...
Attacks on horses have been reported in the south of England recently.
17.
Thanks Turnip, I love being patronised by Cornishmen. Wheeeeeeee, that's surreal!! I hope no-one EVER puts it in context, it's just lovely as it is, and I shall treasure it as a
18.
Thanks Turnip, I love being patronised by Cornishmen. Hope you get a better life.
And I love provoking your school masterly, patronising, retorts Dickie  On a more serious note - I agree with other forum members here that it is not nice for the victim of these senseless attacks on her animals.
19. No agenda Dickie. Simply pointing out continued tabloid interest in making mountains out of molehills. I would expect forum members to glean that fact by looking at the article rather than expecting me to repeat all of it here. Hope you get a better photo
20. Sunday Times(Page 10) features story of English woman in Brittany who is helping a British plan to build a golf course. Seems like local protestors killed her horse ! Mention of growing animosity to number of Brits. settling in Brittany. Usual comments about some Brits. not speaking french despite long term residence, local Breton nationalist group active in the area etc. Mayor assures reporter that majority of Bretons get along well with the Brits. Seems the reporter could not resist asking what the locals thought of Brits. settling in the area.
21. Looks like everyone spotted cthe TRoll
22.
Jacks, I'm sorry to hear about your break-in, not least because it sounds more determined than our opportunist break-ins. We can't instantly surround our property with fencing, not just because we wi...
Ask your neighbours to watch out for suspicious white vans (any large vehicle I would have thought) calling at holiday/second homes, a tip I read in one of the Sunday papers discussing the rising trend of second home burglaries. Seems some of these thieves will even take building materals/plumbing goods or even roofing.
23. Seems a lot of "Find a home for my pet" postings have appeared lately. Is here a growing exudus of Brits. from Normandy and surrounding areas who are returning to Britain? Why didn't your plan to live in France work out? The pets, chickens etc can live anywhere (with kind humans) it seems
24.
Well I laughed! Well I would as a cat-lover and a 'newie' to the language. been a hard day and it cheered me up, which is the point of a joke isn't it?
I laughed as well. As a new language learner it introduced some humour to the use of language
