Hi Paul Five years ago I got a thermostatic shower tap from (Leroy Merlins) for 25 euros in a sale . It has been working well for 5 years so unless you want a certain style the cheap ones do the job. Bob

If the timber is over 25mm thick it should not curl but unless you lift the floor levels by the same thickness you will end up with a higher riser at the bottom step and smaller at the top which will make it unconfortable to walk up and down

I had no problems with material for rewiring and plumbing, but bring ceiling roses and earth bonding clip for plumbing with you they were the two things i could not find in france

Have you tried mixing the clean sawdust and glue and filling the joints with the mix and resanding it should fill the gaps and also be the same colour, try a test piece first bob
