1. Can I ask how you intend to remain legal in the country in which the car is registered therby entitling you to use the vehicle in another EU country for a limited period. If the car is registered in the UK it requires Road Tax, also an MOT (not a CT) and assurance for third party risks. You cannot obtain road tax with French assurance. You cannot obtain an MOT in France.
 2.
Then you would lose your bet. I watched the whole film early on and have been following the matter since day one.
So at least you agree that it is a racist rant
 3.
And leaving mentally troubled people on death row for 20odd years is humane I suppose. As is allowing people to rot in alcoholic stupor because we have not got the sense to control the sale. And both young women and men behaving like bitches on heat and having kids left right and centre by any number of partners. We owe much of our scientific and mathemtical basis to Islam, Tegwini, just as an example. And if you do not believe that the Blue Mosque in Isphahan is one of the wonders of the world, then you have missed out somewhere.
You forgot about locking up young girls who were pregnant(Magdalene sisters) . Not allowing blood transfusions, not allowing ,until recently, marraige outside the faith, not taking any action whatsoever against priests abusing young boys and girls, in fact obstructing justice by moving them outside the jurisdiction of the courts.
 4. Do you have any idea who Geets Wilder is or what the film which was to be shown is about.I bet not. The film is a racist rant, totally unbalanced.
 5.
Hello All ,                     Many thanks for the feedback and it helps inform the chat which will ensue with  le plommiere ; I am going to suggest that 300 euros is a more accurate price for the work and see how he responds . I guess that ultimately if he wants to play hardball i will have to pay but hopefully wiser counsel will prevail  . Clearly I could not have asked for a devis but I assumed the rates for the previous work would have applied . I guess the lesson has to be to ask for an hourly/daily rate in advance of the repair ? Forewarned is forearmed . I'll post later with an outcome .                                                                                 M.
Best of luck but remember you will need to find another plumber in the future, and you will aquire a reputation for being a ""difficult"" customer.
 6. I would think that most of us would be ecstatic about the thought of not having a load of whinging miserable morris dancing pl####rs as neighbours
 7. Ok so you are Swiss from the French speaking part of Switzerland altho you happen to live in the UK. It still does not diminish my point, you are a  native French speaker, so it is easy for you to google the appropriate words and phrases to find out the legal position.
 8. Firstly you submit a tax return showing your worldwide income, generally in April/May every year. In August every year you receive your Avis dímpots on which will show your Renenu Fiscal de Reference. The RFR is the amount of taxable income you have ,even if you have a Govt pension taxed in the UK/ From this RFR you deduct the amount of money over which you pay This year I thinkl the figure is around 8700 euros. You pay 8% on the difference between your RFR and your allowance. You pay every three months to URSSAF
 9. I thought you were French so surely it would be far easier to do an internet search rather than ask on here. What is the purpose of the question anyway.
 10. Very windy here about 1 hr ago some tiles off the roof seems to have calmed down a bit at the moment.
 11.
Brilliant wind up. Love the comment from the mod at the end.........................but then notice that he/she is from switzerland and they are known for having no sense of humour. [:D] .
Sadly Mod from Switzerland removed the whole thread, think it was because he /she suddenly realised that it was a wind up and as you say Bugbear they are not known for a sense of humour.
 12. There is more . People are trying to convince the OP that he/she is mistaken.

 14. This may or may not apply to all assurance coys in France. In July I knocked down and killed a wild animal(a small deer). Some damage to the front grill and  bumper. I discovered on going to my assurance coy that 1) Because I was not at fault I did not loose my no claims discount. 2) My franchise (excess) is 180 € but because it was a wild animal I was also reembursed the franchise. Altho the damage looked minimal the aircon unit was damaged and the total bill was over 1200€
 15. My humble appoogies, but I must be living on a different planet from people on AI[:'(] Advert  for ironing board with photo just spotted.   http://poitoucharentes.angloinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=22131
 16.
Hi, Not sure if this is the right place to post this but will give it a go anway.  We (family of 4) are shortly relocating to Ariege.  Initially renting until we see how the land lies in terms of earning a living etc.  One thing that we are considering doing is buying a property that has a hanger/open barn which could be used for long term parking for camper vans and caravans. We personally have used ours the last couple of summers - heading off from the UK after the schools break up for about 4/5 weeks.  However as we prefer the sunnier climes of "down south" we head on down that way.  We just thought there may be a market out there for offering a service whereby you leave your camper/caravan in our undercover parking area for as long as you want (and we charge a reasonably monthly storage fee).  We could also offer services like a pre-pick up clean and valet and we could collect and drop off owners at the nearest airport.  That way - if you only had 2 weeks holidays and wanted to head down in to Spain - this service would save you the time and expense of having to drive the first 700 miles.  Would be very interested to hear what anyone thinks of this idea.. many thanks Fi
Firstly ,there are already several caravan sites offering this service, they charge around 200€ per year, so not much of an income, but they generally do it in conjunction with their caravan site. . You are also too far south to attract UK caravaners, who will want to pick up their caravan on their first day ,not have the additional expense of a night in a hotel As far as pick up from the airport this would only work for a motorcaravaner, a caravan requires a car to tow it with so they would not be flying.
 17.

I have a feeling that g/p is French, Benjamin.
Well aware, hence the    [6]
I thought GP was German but had lived a long time in France?  Come on, GP!  [:)]
I thought he was half english half French but had lived and worked in Germany ,has never been to the UK and has only recently(in the past 5 or so years)  arrived in France
 18.
One other thing, Grecian. Regarding the E121, there is an important difference to reimbursements, depending on whether it was issued for 'invalidity' or for 'old age'.  Perhaps somebody would quickly (but gently) correct me if I'm wrong about this, but as far as I know this applies to all E121's issued for invalidity.  If your partner has an E121 in her own name, issued for invalidity then all treatments are reimbursed 100%. (i.e. not just for a particular ALD but all treatments)  A piggy-backer, like me, or someone with an E121 issued for 'old age' (that's what the E121 says, not my words!) gets the normal 70%-ish reimbursed.
An interesting point and perhaps could do with clarification. My understanding is that an E121 issued for invalidity covers not only the person to whom it was issued 100% for everything but it also covered 100% the piggy backer(if that is the right word).Perhaps I am wrong.
 19. Official translation from Legifrance     Article L211-1 (Act no.81-5 of 7 January 1981, Article 2-i, Official Journal of 8 January 1981 in force on 1 July 1981) (Act no. 85-677 of 5 July 1985, Article 7 and 8, Official Journal of 6 July 1985 in force on 1 January 1986) (Act no. 89-1014 of 31 December 1989, Article 50, Official Journal of 3 January 1990 in force on 1 July 1990) (Act no. 93-1444 of 31 December 1993, Article 18, Official Journal of 5 January 1994) (Act no. 99-505 of 18 June 1999, Article 5, Official Journal of 19 June 1999)        Any individual or legal entity other than the State, whose public liability may be incurred due to damage sustained by third parties as a result of personal injury or material damage, during the occurrence of which a motor vehicle as well as its trailers or semi-trailers is involved must, to drive such vehicles, be covered by insurance covering such liability in accordance under the terms defined by decree in Conseil d'Etat.        Insurance contracts covering the liability referred to in the first paragraph of this article must also cover the public liability of any person who has custody of the vehicle or who drives the vehicle, even if not so authorised, with the exception of professionals involved in the repair, sale and inspection of the car, as well as the public liability of passengers of the vehicle covered by insurance. However, in the event of the theft of a vehicle, said contracts shall not cover compensation for losses sustained by the perpetrators, co-perpetrators or accomplices.        The insurer shall be subrogated in the creditor of the compensation’s rights against the person liable for the accident when the custody of the vehicle was obtained or when the vehicle was driven against the owner’s will.        Said contracts must be contracted with an insurance firm that it is authorised to provide motoring accident insurance.        The members of the driver’s or the insured’s family as well as the pupils of an authorised motor driving school during training or examination shall be deemed to be third parties within the meaning of the first paragraph of this Article.     The first paragraph clearly states that motor vehicles being driven must be covered by insurance as well as trailers. Second paragraph is perhaps the one that assurance coys rely on but why the custody or drive. I would suggest that this paragraph is designed to cover third parties if the car is stolen or if it loaned to someone else who is not the insured.
 20. I am puzzled I put an advert on a  site where British look, advertising a car for sale. I gave the make, model, year,  kilometers colour , ie a full description. I was asked for a photograph. I was puzzled because people should know what a particular make and model look like. Then I advertised stone from a barn demolition to be given away free. Someone asked for a photo of my pile of stone[:-))] The limit was when I advertised an ironing board. Yes you have guessed Someone wanted a photo.[:@] Not only that but I put my location ie town , where I live and people say "" We live in XXXXX and do not know where YYY is .Can you tell us how far you are from us.
 21.
Well, I will ignore the response from Boiling a frog, as obviously he/she is either very rude, or just a bit weird, and needs to get out more. At this point I would like to thank anybody who took the trouble to answer my query with constructive responses. If I am permitted to ask some more 'thick' questions, then I would like to continue with this thread. This morning we received our attestion, although it was delivered to next door, as CPAM put the wrong number in the address. We went along to our local CPAM office, but there were about 20 people waiting, so we will try again tomorrow. What happens now regarding obtaining our CV's? When we first went to our local CPAM office we offered our passport photos, but he said later. At this stage nobody has any photographs of us, to put on our CV's. Can we expect to receive another form to fill in for our CV's, and then enclose the photos with that form. Or has something gone badly wrong? Also, could somebody shed some light on how we fill out our medecin traitant form please, we have had it filled out and stamped by our doc (on the same day as we discussed my wife's ALD incidentally), it is just the bit we have to fill in I am not too sure about. We have only received one attestion with both our names on it, so on the medecin traitant form where it reads: L'assuré(e) do we enter my wife's name, and then where it says: Le bénéficiaire do I enter my name? Or do we both have to fill out a medecin traitant form, if that is the case then I am totally confused who's name goes where.
You do appear not to be aware of how the system works, so why is it that I am rude or weird, kindly explain.
 22. I wonder if this alleged requirement to have assurance for a motor vehicle in France, even if  it is off the road, stored in a garage etc is an urban myth. I cannot actually find any piece of legislation that says a motor vehicle must  always be insured even if off the road. Perhaps it has arisen because the French assurance coys make it difficult to cancel an assurance contract If you have not sold the car or scapped the car then you have to wait until the contract is coming up for renewal and then 2 months before the renewal date you write a letter to cancel . The assurance coy will then just cancel the assurance. Any pointers toward legislation that says a motor vehicle must be insured at all times.
 23.
I watched it on CNN too. The Beeb lacked something and Sky... well it's Sky, innit!
