  1. I once had a La Marque expresso maker. For the money, it made great expresso's .
  2. I think this may have been covered before, in that you may need something like iPortal.
  3. A few years back I bought some French kitchen and bathroom paint and when it dried "glossy" I thought I had bought the wrong paint.I am about to paint a kitchen and before doing so I wondered whether I would be better off using British kitchen and bathroom paint which is matt and steam resistant.Apart from the fact that I am not particularly keen on a shine on the walls, is there any advantage in using the French paint? I am also concerned if I don't like it will it be possible to return to Matt-I somehow doubt it.
  4. For those interested the ITV HD channel started today on Channel 119 Freesat.

    Shameless

Paul Abbot the original writer and producer who also wrote "Clocking Off" and others was brought up on such an estate. At least the original series was believed to be semi-autobiographical.
  6. It has been so good to read such positive comments. Far better than reading websites that may or may not be accurate. This forum is a lifeline for many of us,and itt was through this forum some 3 years ago that I decided to have the yearly PSA test,
  7. I am in the process at the moment. PSA double the level it should be. Examination yesterday and ultrasound/biopsy arranged for 2 weeks time.Urologist suggested that as the information sheet was in French I should research on the internet.Read a couple of articles last night and the wording regarding impotency and incontinence were more strongly worded than in the article mentioned in Quillans posting. Also there is also mention of possible septocaemia as a result of the biopsy. Spent a very sleepless night and this morning read of someone who had actually gone through the procedure. Whilst I am still worried I think I will go through with the biopsy. For many years I have felt that men should have a test by right as do women for their cancer tests. However having read a multitude of articles on the subject I am not as convinced as I was, in that it is not as conclusive or as safe.
  8. I have now found the item on Total France under the heading "Gites and possible fines if not registered". From Pomhorn who is usually pretty up to date. Mention of a possible fine of 450€ under l'article 12 du dercret (NO 2009-1650) and article 24 de la loi No 2009-888. No doubt different from the Paris situation but worth investigating at least
  9. Many thanks for that-I will make it my Sunday reading. It does seem to be the tip of an iceberg.
  10. Many thanks. for the clarification. I do seem however to remember seeing a similar thread on Total France . which I can no longer find, where a permission had to be sought from the authorities to rent out, which in essence prompted my original post. Hopefully I am dreaming!
  11. Another thread which seems to have disappeared,] In an article in FPN Jan 2010 it seems that under article 79(v) of Loi 2006-872, the prefecture of Paris is to get tough on homeowners who rent out their properties without proper authorisation. It appears that properties not classified as commercial cannot legally be rented out for periods of less than 1 year, unless to students(9 months) Max Fine 25000€ Homeowners who wish to continue with holiday lets must apply for re-classification as a commercially zoned property. Bonapart Consulting are advising their 300 clients to go into long term lets. I have mentioned this to a property letting agent who has not heard of the law, and thinks it may apply only to Paris. I am not so sure, but can not see from Section 7 what is actually being said.Anyone else come across it?
  12. Paint is very expensive and often of poor quality.I buy car parts, smoked back bacon,EasyYo books and DVD's on a regulat basis. I do miss Aberdeen Angus beef, which I have been unable to obtain online.
  13. Definitely No. Apart from the drop in journalistic standards,it's seems everybody on earth wants to provide you with news-for free.
  14. I am very much against this takeover-Cadbury's has been part my staple diet since childhood and the story of their origins, very much a part of British social history. However we can't have it both ways - British companies have always been in the fore front of takeovers oversea. In a global capitalist market it will always be thus.

The experts continue to do well with their prophesies, Unemployment they said would reach 3million, now dropping. A Japanese car components company opening a new factory in Swansea, Wales- the biggest investment in this kind of work for decades.. Bosch(car parts for Mercedes. BMW) moving from Cardiff to Hungary. Is it the cynic in me that wonders whether they are moving whilst they can still blame the recession?

I seem to remember the "financial experts" forecasting deflation which was really going to bring the country to it's knees.
  17. Never having looked for a holiday rental on the net, I would be interested to know what keyword are the best to use.e.g Holiday rentals, self catering, holiday lets etc?
  18. Thanks. All becomes clear!.
  19. The system is beyond me, On taking up a debit card this year I was given an Overdraft limit of £100-which I have never used. I know from UK experience that you can become "technically" overdrawn if a cheque is paid by the Bank before a cheque you have paid in has cleared. In France I believe the system is even more complex. Despite this, and I never pay cheques into my account I am frequently charged small sums like 0.03€ with a narrative ADI particulier. I seem to remember from another thread this means an overdraft charge.Because of the small amounts I have never challenged but I just find it annoying. Unless the system has changed I think that an unauthorised overdraft means a fine and if it is not cleared within 30 days or occurs twice in 12 months the account will be closed. Your name is blacklisted at the Banque de France and you will be unable to operate an account at any bank in France for a year and your name will, remain on the blacklist for 2 years. Whilst the matter is taken very seriously I think Prison is a long way down the line.
  20. I see from the Freesat website that BBC iPlayer and ITV player will start to be rolled out on Freesat during the first quarter of 2010. Viewers will need a Freesat HD Digital box, Freesat + box, or a Freesat HD Tv connected to Broadband and satellite dish.

    beef

I think finding a good butcher is essential. In the UK had a very good butcher who was in the Q guild. Never bought from a supermarket. Here we have found Royal Limousin and Blond D'Aquitaine breeds usually have the best flavour/texture.
  22. I think there us scratch reduction/removal on several of the machines. This would though alter the remaining sound.
  23. I have bought off ebay UK a new ION USB 10 at £59.95 + postage Does vinyl and cassettes.. delivery was under 48 hours. Because it's a Christmas present, not used yet. Good reviews though.
  24. Just picked up this thread. No use to you, but I have been trying for 2 days to change from Annual payment via my bank account to monthly, and it does not recognise my reference either.I wonder if there is a problem with their side or is there a difficulty when changing from annual to monthly and vice versa
