1. Stick on bird of prey is the normal way, I think they are supposed to look like Sparrow Hawks
2. leboncoin.fr for the french interest. Ebay for the English
3. i've lost ch4 and a couple of others on Freesat tonight - clear blue skies above
4. To make a serious point, surely locking up your sons and daughters would make more sense until he/they are caught?
5. Hello Does anyone know where I can replacement brushes for the basic triangular head pool cleaner? I've asked blokey in the local shop and he shrugged and said I had to buy the whole head ~€40...seems a bit steep if you ask me (retails for around £12 in the UK). I'm sure I could source them from the USA or UK, but if anyone can help find them here in France I would be obliged. Thanks
6. NEXT plc used to be in France as well.  I think they pulled out in 1999 when David Jones was at the helm, and just before Wolfson took over as they found the employment laws prohibitive and employment costs extortionate (i.e not making any profit). Maybe M&S should employ some expats who might know a bit about "the shopping experience" and help mentor the French through the change from socialist to capitilist values
7. had ours yesterday with wifey's hollandaise sauce
8. what sort of electric cover. They vary in cost quite a bit. we paid 25k for a 12x6 pool, but had to pay the JCB man and his truck mate to take away a good deal more stuff. the Pool cover we have is above ground in wood solar poweredthat cost around 10k. Does you cost include any pool surround?
9. I will try and get a photo to post of the local Cranes as my friend took it. The Black redstarts are here as well. We have a Little Owl making his presence known at the moment, quite rare for these parts.
10. There are about 2000 at the Lac Puydarrieux at the moment
11. this months copy of Maison&Travaux (No 230) has an article on how to insulate the partition wall between a bedroom and bathroom. They use a product called << Placo® Phonique Rénomince® >>
12. Hello all briconauts   I am going to put down a concrete floor but I also want to build a block wall off of it to support some beams that span a first floor grange (the beams are original and already in place but the floor above bounces rather alarmingly!).   So C30/37 or less?
13. Tarbes market on Thursday mornings. Not the indoor bit...you have to cross over the road to the Antique/Flower bit. Or we could get one of our broody chickens to sit for you and you can come and collect.
14. Our citroen garage "serviced" our car. Two days later it broke down so I had it towed back to them. it turned out is was the fuel filter that was blocked...."but you changed that when you serviced the car?" I said...."but you didn't ask us to change it" they said. I've just been stuck in Brico Depot for 2 hours tonight with a broken car, 2 weeks after a major Citroen "service". I've knocked BD about customer service ever since I started using them. Not tonight though...two blokes and the security guard quite happily pushed me and car around the materials yard and out into the dark and deserted car park.
15. Chicks? I guess you mean hens. How old are you thinking of buying them? as after 1 day old you will be hard pushed to tell the difference between cocks and hens. Hens sort themselves out in a pecking order, more than 1 cock will cause you problems, and you really don't want them near kids. Is there a local "local" market near you? It's sometimes the best place to pick up different breeds. We got a couple of fluffy feathered feet type chickens that way. Silkies might be a good start.
16.
Use Tileboard not plasterboard on the inside, use  celotex  foam sheets internally, cut to fit spaces in wall, then use 12.5 or better doubleboarded 9.5mm  plasterboard. on external walls.
Can you get Celotex or equivalent here? I used it extensively in the UK but I have not seen it here. Plus...I remember it was expensive and I have about 100m2 of wall to build and insulate
17. dejavu There is no such thing as "common sense" in France, do not expect anyone to think "outide the box". They are following their guidlines and you have to conform to it. Take a big breath, bite your tongue and do what the ask. I worked for FT for 3 months in their IT/Finance department. Utterly bizarre 3 months, I learnt alot about the French office work ethic (it may not be just FT but I don't have anything else to compare it against). I have one or two fantastic examples of them following..rigidly..guidelines....you could weep with frustration. I will not be returning..
18. Hello Is there a French translation/version of Black Bean Sauce? Does anyone know where you could buy the sauce? We don't have a specialist Chinese shop near us.   Thanks
19. Hello google:  tva intracommunautaire and there is a stack load of references to trawl through.
20. Thanks for the site, something sorely needed. As to fixing the thing...i can barely just see the bung and will take a while to get to. I understand the need to maybe change all the bungs at once but it's a matter of cost. I could probaby buy the same year Citroen (in the UK though) for the cost of getting someone to get the engine out. I'm of for a devis tomorrow. Hopefully I can get away with replacing the ones that can be seen. Tip-top-tips anyway, thanks
21. Maybe not the right forum to ask this but there is no DIY-Car bit. My xantia diesel has developed a leak from one of the engine block core plugs. I don't know the french to describe these things as I'm going to have to ask a garage to replace it. I know they are only a few cents to buy but I pig to fit. Or do I just point and say "Regardez, ca fuit! "   Many thanks
22. Calling the toss on boxing day, Andrew Strauss called correctly and, quick as a flash, said to Ricky ''You lads can bat.'' Just as quick, Ponting replied: "No, we can't. We really can't."
23. actually...trawling the tinterweb as I have nothing better to do...most of the ashes jokes are from the last 20yrs of English sh1te. Where you see the word "english" substitute the word "Aussie".   http://world-a-team.com/eng-archived-threads-2005-onwards/3059-ashes-jokes.html
24. whats the Australian version of LBW? Lost, Beaten...walloped
