1. What happened to the suggestions on your previous thread?? http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/2425511/ShowPost.aspx Danny
2. have a read here for some possible help with this http://www.totalfrance.com/france/forum/viewtopic.php?t=99801 Danny
3.

I don't know. I don't have an analog decoder any more to check. According to Eutelsat, they plan to continue the analog channels via AB3 only up to 31 November 2011. Danny
Do you mean 30 November or 1 December?
it is a special leap year in France this year to mark the end of analog..... [:$] Danny
4. John, did you attach the printer to each computer and install the drivers on each computer before you set up the livebox printer? The HP drivers can be a pain too. Danny
5. Ernie, as long as you have just selected Débit maximal auquel votre ligne est éligible and then continuer, you can then choose valider (if I remember right) to confirm. There is no extra charge. The blurb you got is just standard  but does not say what I get if I recheck mine. i.e that the speed you have is already the max the line can support. The 20M(2M) says that you are limited to a level of 2Mb at the moment. You have nothing to lose by validating your demand and the possibility * of a small improvement. Danny * I am not 100% certain that you will get any change but it should stop any commercial limitation. It can take 15 days to be changed. If you keep an eye on your synchronisation, you should be able to notice when/if it changes. I hope that you are wrong about your last sentence.[:)] EDIT EDIT i.e this one "As I understand it though none of this will change the 1mb I currently have and or give me the 3-4mb I am certain my line is capable of supporting [:'(]"
6. John, did you not see the links I gave you in the 3rd post of this thread? Is it a problem on French? let me know and I will try to do a translate for you. What is the model of HP Photosmart? Are you using just Macs or are other OSs involved? Danny
7.
As far as espace client/ma formule/changer d'offre and select 'booster votre offre internet' select 'choisir cette offre' is concerned it says 'inclusive' which I take to mean that I am already on the max possible.
if it says 'inclus' that just means there is no extra charge, not that it is already in place. Does it also say 'choisir cette offre'? If so, you can click on that then select Débit maximal auquel votre ligne est éligible (maximum speed available on your line) then 'continuer' and it will either give you a message to say that we will carry out your request (I forget the exact wording) or Le débit dont vous bénéficiez aujourd'hui constitue le débit maximal auquel vous pouvez accéder. (You already have the maximum speed available) Danny
8. That is correct Ernie. Was I unclear? I was referring only to the commercial levels which are put in place by Orange and nothing to do with the line length/quality (accurately reported on their database or not) I only mentioned it as I think it may be useful to some people. It is worth a check just in case. As you confirm, Orange don't inform people about it. Out of interest, have you checked your espace client as I indicated to see what it says about the 'débit maximal' on your line? Did you ever get anywhere with trying to correct/upate the erroneous data about your line statistics? There figures are also wrong here about this line. But the other way round to yours. It is reported as having an theoretical attenuation of about 16 dB but in reality itsynchronises at about 36 dB. Danny
9. I don't know. I don't have an analog decoder any more to check. According to Eutelsat, they plan to continue the analog channels via AB3 only up to 31 November 2011. Danny
10.

Make sure you also check espace client/ma formule/changer d'offre and select 'booster votre offre internet' select 'choisir cette offre' then Débit maximal auquel votre ligne est éligible then 'continuer' There is no charge for this. It puts your internet at the fastest speed your line can support. It can take 15 days to be activated.
I have just had a 'poke' around to look for this following your instructions and I can't find it. Does this mean I am already at my highest speed?
You can check by what is shown in the Espace Client. When you click on 'ma formule', it will say either Formule Plus 20 M or Net Plus 20 M etc without any brackets. This means you have the fastest available. If you see something like 'Net Plus 20 M(2M)', then your line is being limited to whatever level is in the brackets. This may be because your line can only support the 2MB at the moment or you are just held at that level commercially. If I follow the steps I outlined before (and here my line is at the max available) I get the following message when I try to 'booster votre offre internet': and click 'continuer' "Nous avons procédé à un test d'éligibilité de votre ligne. Le débit dont vous bénéficiez aujourd'hui constitue le débit maximal auquel vous pouvez accéder." We are on ADSL2+ since last July and were limited to 2 Mb before that. Now we have a stable 11 Mb. If you are far from the exchange, it will not make any difference though. Danny
11. well, if you are happy to stay with Orange, you should change your offer and save a few bob. You could put the cash towards playing with some bits of wood or something...[Www] You should be able to do it online if you want. Espace client/ma formule/changer d'offre and see what is there. If it is not listed you will have to call them. Any change of offer will mean a new 12 month minimum subscription. Just as an aside and for anyone else who may be affected.... Orange, unlike all other providers have certain speed levels which are just commercial in nature and only if requested will set your line to the highest level possible. If you don't ask, they don't do it automatically. As this does not make the sales people any commission, they can be quite happy to ignore requests over the phone so best to do it on line. A lot of lines are being upgraded at the moment so that faster internet is available. It is a good idea to check[I] just in case. Danny
12. No, it is not new but the 7 euro extra charge for unlimited calls that John mentioned (if indeed that is what he meant!) is part of one of the older packages. Unless I misunderstood what he was referring too, of course. Danny
13.
3€ for the Livebox rent and 7 for the phone is a bargain for us.
John, are you still paying 7 euros extra for your international calls via the livebox? If so you should change your Orange package and save a bit of cash. all the Orange offers now include the phone calls - there is no paying extra for these calls (unless you want unlimited calls to French mobiles too like Bugsy) http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/residentiel/forfaits/net-tripleplay-plus.aspx?bo=1 Danny
14. http://assistance.orange.fr/partager-une-imprimante-usb-avec-la-livebox-2-47.php there you go John... it seems that success can depend on getting/choosing the right driver for your printer - especially if it is an HP printer. also more here for Windows, Linux and Mac http://www.c-orange.fr/tutos/images/Tuto_imprimante_USB_LB2.pdf Danny
15. I would guess that the dish (and/or LNB) is not correctly aligned for maximum reception. But.... without more info - which channels work all the time, what make/model decoder, if you received the problem channels OK in the past. etc - it is very diffcult to give you any better advice. Could you borrow another decoder to try with your dish OR take your decoder to someone else's house where everything works OK. This may narrow down the cause of problems to either the decoder or the installation. Danny
16.
. Anyone have thoughts on how to access US websites/convert a French into a US IP address?
you could try Hotspot Shield a free VPN service funded by ads which places your IP in the US. (If you use Firefox with the adblock plus add-on, the ads are not shown) Danny
17. It seems that you have a choice of a Panasonic or a Panasonic. No other companies are now offering freesat enabled models in their current range from my reading online. http://www.freesat.co.uk/products/hd-tv-range Danny
18. Expat Shield are apparently thinking about a linux version but http://ubuntu-chronicles.blogspot.com/2009/12/karmic-vpn-itshiddencom.html is a guide on how to set up the free 'itshidden' service. possibly useful??..... There are not a lot of free VPN services. Plenty out there if you want to pay. Danny
Those AWFUL caterpillar things which are more like millipedes with regard to the number of legs, but which look like the end of a well used scruffy broom, and, seem to move at the speed of sound.
here you go... House Centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) Danny [:)]
20. Because they use a different protocol for their catch ups which Expat shield does not support at the moment - they say they are working on it. http://www.facebook.com/expatshield?v=app_46468144668 Danny
21. There is a good selection of free dvd writing software on this page. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-best-free-alternatives-to-nero-cddvd-burner/ instructions here on how to save your moviemaker file as an .avi file. You can select this .avi file that you save as your source file in the dvd buring software. Avi2dvd is very easy to use too. http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.php download link here http://ifile.it/82uztw3 "Instructions : Click on the 'request download ticket' and in the next page just hit the 'download' button." 22. Hi Martin, Yes I do watch the HD channels more than any other French channels. I know there are some reports of pictures freezes recently but I have not been waching them enough to note how much it is happening. I saw your posts on the TVNT forum...... Danny
23. He is not called the MD but the DG. The DG is the legal head of the company ie.. the buck is supposed to stop with him. all the details are here on this page http://www.societe.com/societe/france-telecom-380129866.html M. RICHARD Stephane Le Directeur Général FRANCE TELECOM 6 Place d'Alleray 75015 PARIS good luck Danny
24. [:-))]I imagine the terms 'chairman' and 'chief executive officer' and according to the  French site 'Président' and 'Directeur Général' get confused in the lunchtime ether. If you write to one, he will most likely send it to the other one anyway. Danny
