1. C'mon Krusty give em a clue I can't bear them not knowing, I know I was puzzled for about 10 mins, did the squinting (no squinting required) then as you say its obvious and a bit of a let down!! The fun/frustration is in not knowing!!! If you want a clue I can pm you
 2.
My 30amp bit was in reply to the fact that all electric aga's do exist and for the benefit of others following the thread, since this kind of appliance should have its own supply then you might as well be Eco and install the wiring suitabe for the off-peak model.[:P]
Just a little info: The 30amp model would not be suitable for the OP if at some time he would want to take it home the UK or anywhere else for that matter as the 30amp is not recommended for removal, you will not find a aga qualified installer/relocator that would do it! only 13 amp.
 3. I'm afraid he will either have to put up with it or separate the dog from the rabbits any way he can e.g. keep in the house/shed, chain it up, its just instinct and I doubt if you will stop it now! Can he send it round to my house as I could do with a few less bunnies!
 4. I aways watch[:)] but never vote!! can't you vote for FREE online?
 5.
Apart from turning the garden into our very own set from the battle of the Somme, (only joking, it soon recovered!)
Ahh yes I remember it well!! [:-))]
 6. We are not in your area so can not help on that one. But we had a new system installed a year ago by a proper installer, 3000lt cost  5600€ which included a grease trap and a long 30m pipe. My husband is a building contractor here in the UK and installing a septic tank is an everyday task but we would not have contemplated putting it in ourselves unless : our french was good enough to deal with SPANC,  we had a good knowledge of where to acquire all the relevant equipment and materials, and whether we wanted to spend one of our precious weeks doing that instead of more simpler jobs that needed doing. It was not a question of money, more did we want to do it!
 7.
Its more comfortable.
You gave in then steve [;-)]
 8.
... has started taking a chunk of (dry) food out of her dish .... walking around the settee, onto the rug, where she eats it.  Then goes back, gets another bit and does the same. It was really funny when she first did it, but I don't want her eating her grub on the rug! (they don't normally get fed in the living room ... they have on occasions, but she's never done this before). Any ideas?   Serious or otherwise?? [:P]
Mine is worse[:-))] When we give her the left overs from a roast dinner, she pulls out all the meat which is covered in gravy and takes it to the the mat by the front door!!!!

 10.
Just saved myself a few bob with Orange and am now going to pay for nationwide withdrawals which I and oh do every month to retrieve our pension - ah well you win some you lose a lot it seems ! Chris
Not sure what account you have with NW but the flex-account remains the same as always : free use of card abroad Just copied this from their site: Commission-free card use abroad Did you know we are the only high-street provider that doesn't charge you commission if you use your card abroad? Some competitors charge up to 2.75% for buying goods or services and withdrawing cash abroad. See how much you could save with our calculator for using your card overseas. We do not charge you commission for using cash machines abroad but the machine providers may charge. We have no control over this.   If you are being charged its not NW!
 11.

Try this: http://www.energie-info.fr/pratique/liste-des-fournisseurs
Thank you Clair, but after trying them all non seem to offer anything other that the same sort of deal I'm already on [:(] Looks like a non starter!
Be patient, all this competition stuff is rather dare I say, foreign to the French energy market, the new fledgling energy suppliers will take a while to shake off the traditions that are holding them back. Give it time and you will find that they will start to make different offerings, start to target niche markets etc. About 500 years should do it [6]
Ok I hear what you are saying JR but I have looked at the EDF UK site and they offer 6 different tariffs for my post code and all of them are without a abonnement (standing charge) eg. : Online Version 6 Flexible product family Our best value online rates Fully flexible - no minimum term Also by joining our 2012 Carbon Challenge, save up to an additional £166† Unit costs (pence per Kwh) Electricity Electricity unit costs Than Band A rate will apply to a block of 900 kWh each year. This will be applied on a pro rata basis for each day covered by the bill and rounded to the nearest whole kWh. E.g. for a bill covering 90 days the first 222 kWh used in that billing period will be charged at the Band A rate. All other day kWh will be charged at the Band B rate.   Band A 19.78 Band B 9.81 Estimated Annual Price £828.55 Terms and Conditions   I know that the UK division is probably run differently to EDF Fr. and they would have to offer like for like with other UK suppliers. So this is not so alien to them! So come on all you French energy suppliers and stop making money out of us poor holiday home owners [;-)]
 12.
Before I ring the EDF English-speaking line, does anyone have any ideas on whether E23.35 or E47.07 would be the more likely? Thanks
I think that you pay in advance for the abonnement and that is your monthly payment for 12kW on Heures Creuses. Edit: I misread you post! Definitely 47,07€ per bill for 2 months
 13.
Jacqui too - i' m nearly as excited as you about you being a granny. I have been watching those eggs hatching for ages. Can't wait. I presume you will tell us all when the time comes.
Hi bubbles Our waiting should be over on Tuesday as my daughter is going into hospital to be induced (sp) just a little hiccup but she needs to come out a little early! Just to keep this tread on topic [:D] talking about airline toilets, I have only ever used them twice but both times I have found them incredible small and wondered how anyone (mostly ladies) larger than me (5'5" & 9st.) cannot sustain injuries to head and elbows!!! [:-))]

 15. Thanks for the links TW. I already use the online site for managing my account and have been giving reading for a while now, my last 2 bills (4 months) have been for 20,69€ each as we have not used any electricity. We are on domestique option base 9 kW. After looking at their site again it looks like they only do that and the options Heures Pleines / Heures Creuses ! So my next question: are there any other suppliers? and might they have different tariffs?
 16. We have our electricity from EDF and pay a monthly abonnement plus any electricity that we use, as we are only there on average 2 months per year we are paying for 10 months at 10.35€ for nothing. Are there any tariffs available from EDF or any other supplier where you don't pay a fixed abonnement but pay more per kWh ? I recently changed from Scottish power to British gas and have just such a tariff and it got me thinking if we could save money on our French home [:)]

 18.
we have been with France Telecom for our telephone line on the Residence Secondaire scheme and Internet a la carte with Orange for nearly 2 years now.  To stop the service we ring the English Helpline and ask them to 'Suspend the telephone line' and 'downgrade the internet to dial up (which is free anyway). We pay approx. 5 euros each time.  To re-start we ask them to 'unsuspend the telephone line' and 'upgrade the internet connection to internet a la carte'.  If you are ringing France English Service from England we use Skype on the following number +33800364775 which ends up being a free call.
I have been following this thread with great interest as I hope to have my telephone installed this year. I already knew about the Residence Secondaire scheme  and intend to use that , but I was worried that I would either have to use dial-up or pay for ADSL for every month even if the phone line was suspended. If both Techno and Halldfandid are correct as I understand them: pay only for time the phone line and ADSL are 'Live' and pay small fee to turn on or off, sounds great, now all I have to do is find someone in FT to agree with them!! as it seems not all employees know all the the services they provide!
 19.
My son is getting married near Carcassonne in the summer and about 100 people are flying over mainly via Ryanair. Within days of the invites going out, prices on all possible routes had increased as people checked flights and times.  A week later prices had come back down again.
If you want the best prices from Ryanair you will find them mostly between 4-6 weeks prior to flying, this has been said before and I have always found it to be right [:)]
 20. Thanks every one
I am also same distance from Perigueux.........
Thanks for the advice, We are on the east side so Boulazac is our nearest commercial zone. They have several: Loxam, Kiloutou, and Daudou  so will try a few. Was the place 'Locati' that you were thinking of ?
 21. The first bit of equipment is a sand-blaster and a compressor, the compressor is quite large and might have to be towed, we have a large van and will be able to pick up, delivery is an option but it is quite expensive and after looking at their websites it not clear if the delivery charge will be for each item or or for the largest/most expensive item only. I dont think we will be eligible for any trade/card as the hire will only be for short periods and well spaced out over the next couple of years! Any other recommendations for places to try , we are 10 miles from Perigueux (24) we will need a digger (jcb type) and scaffolding next.
 22. Hi Has anyone had any experience of hire from these places and in particular http://www.loxam.fr/ or http://www.laho.fr/. We need to hire some large equipment and I just thought I'd get some info first.
 23.
One can book in online 14 days before departure now, rather than 5 days ...[:)]
Well thats even better [:D] Brill for me as I only go for short trips if I fly (mostly drive down for longer ones)
 24.
Not having used Ryanair for a few years, it did occur to me that Internet checking in could be a problem, but I am sure someone has the answer. Internet checking in on say the outward flight should pose no problem, but it did occur to me that the inward flight could be a problem if you are without the use of the Internet whilst away for a week or more and you also do not have a laptop, netbook or an Internet café available to you. Baz
I have come across this 'problem' but have found ways of overcoming this. There are very few places in the world where you can't find a telephone, just ring a friend up ( who has internet) with all your details and let them do it for you. If your trip is less that 5 days you can book-in the return before you go. I have used internet cafes, found in most towns, The Hotel and the B&B have both let me use there internet, and finally just turn up in time for airport check-in cost a couple of quid! No real problem
