1.

Hi Paul. You can't hide mate, I would agree with your statement all the way, when I ordered all my gear from a local shop the man asked when I would like delivery this being 11am, so, knowing how the UK works I said as soon as they were able, he nearly gave me palpitations when he asked if 2pm would be ok, at 1.50pm there they were.
Hi John   Jeeez you just can't get away from some people can you [;)] LOLOLOLOL   How are you doing mate??? I have to say I was amazed at being given so precise a time and that it was adhered to, especially as our house is not the easiest to find[:D]
Among my items were a washing machine / 6ft fridge / 28in tv , freezer and the cooker all up 3 flights at that time so I was more than a little suprised that one of the 2 man delivery team was a woman, after the delivery they went out on the roof and fitted my tv dishes.

3.
It's true and I've got the bruises to prove it.. We spent the day at the beach ( not normal for us in August). and at least 15+ women hit on me, some very sexy, given I'm mid 30's, is this normal beha...
It was probably the bright red sunburn, paunch, handkerchief on the head and socks with sandals they were having a giggle over.
4.
The quote is from a contractor who the Mairie advised us was the only person who could do the job.
Probably his Brother in Law.

Terms

There used to be a Dictionary of Medical Terms translation on here, is it still around as I can't find it, anyone point me in the right direction if it is.
6. I need an English Solicitor in the Charente conversant with English Civil Litigation, can anyone point me in the right direction.
7.
Is it possible to find out BEFORE purchasing a house if it needs a fosse septique? How much do they cost, do you have to pay a yearly charge? How does the financial bits & pieces work??? Help!
If in a Town probably not as it would hopefully be mains, if rural and a wreck yes you will, if rural habitable simply ask the owner, the average installed cost is I think around 4 / 4500 euros. there are no charges once installed unless you get it emptied once in a blue moon.
8. The UK can't crow when the common Sparrow, among others, is close to extinction there, ok they may not be shot but simply poisoned by the vast amounts of pesticides and other chemicals put on and into the land which gets into their food chain, the water they drink is not all that safe either making both birds and fish sterile. But this is a case of out of sight out of mind.
9. I think that you will now find that unless you can supply a UK address DVLA will no longer renew a UK Licence.
10.
These people are just bad drivers It has always been the case that in the UK you STOP at a stop sign look left look right look left and proceed if way is clear Sec 36 RTA 88 makes it an offence to fai...
Would agree, this was the reason UK Halt signs were changed many years ago, because it was decided ,that Halt and Stop have different meanings.
11. You say you are moving but won't have an address, where / in what will you be living.
12. Most Brit.immigrants moving to France over the past few years have done so chasing the fast buck and in doing so have wrecked the housing market here much as they've done in Spain and Italy and are in the process of doing the same in Turkey and Poland.
13. As a majority are rented out why shouldn't they be taxed, I know several that have multiple houses and brag about not paying taxes on the income produced, so if they are caught I for one say good.
14.
You need to get onto your insurance pronto and tell them what happened. And yes, you will lose part of your no claims if you don't claim against his. Becareful, sometimes your insurance company will...
I recently had a prang where the French female driver considered I was at fault by being on the wrong side of the road whereas I stated she was travelling too fast so neither of us signed the other's form, I told Axa I thought 50/50 would be right and they agreed consequently I only paid half my excess and have not lost my No Claims in fact the cost has gone down by 200 euros per year as I discovered on renewing the Policy 2 weeks ago. BTW. the ''road'' in question is 7'6'' wide with a blind bend.
15. I had my Godin Colonial fitted in Sept. and am more than happy with it, at 839 euros just above middle price but very solidly built rated 10 kw but seems much more, has 2 glass doors which I can have open without the house filling with smoke.   James, have you thought of building a small attached outhouse for the boiler with maybe gas as an alternative to oil, I have an 1100 ltr. gas tank and use about 5% per month running 6 large old cast iron rads and all hot water, think the last time I checked gas was .53e per litre. Maybe of use  http//:www.chaffoteaux-maury.fr:
16. I think someone is pulling your string, I imported an American built RHD Ford from the UK to France, bought H4 replacement headlights from US then applied to Ford France for the Cert. took a week, got it MoT'd then took all the papers to the local office paid the fee, 10 days later fully fledged member of the French motoring fraternity.
17. You have probably 3 half yearly bills plus one for consumption floating around somewhere, very likely in the UK if you haven't informed them you are now residents.
18. Had a similar problem, a narrow road is between the barn and land which is on the edge of a lake the owner of which raised issues as to my water entering his lake in which are fish as a '' Cash crop '', the Sanitation Dept's solution was, pipe from barn across the road to septic / filter / collection hole with pump then back across the road to a community ditch there after filtering into the lake. My fosse is 3000 with 25sq.mt filter so your's would be about right. ps farmer still not happy.
19. You also need to remember that if it's not been your main residence for 2 years or you have owned it for less than 5 a fairly stiff tax is payable.
20.
No doubt people will disagree with me, BUT from what i've seen, general food shopping prices in large multi chain shops (LeClerc, Carrefour, Super U etc) are much the same as the UK but in Euros. ie. ...
Where are you!, I've just paid 10.50 for a 4lb chook in InterMarche.
21. Are you sure they can't be adjusted, those on my old'96 24v were.
