  1. I think its the airport/customs who stop you carrying food through and particularly on the French side, i came back with haggis from UK no problem and had friends who brought back bacon. Stick it in your bag, i'm sure UK customs will have no problem, Hugh.
  2. it would be perfectly OK to ask for advice about getting involved in dog fighting, badger baiting or other kind of animal/human/child molestation. Thats a sick and depraved thought, why do you think of such things, your life must be pretty sad to bring into the equation child molestation. This posting has died a death, why do you wish to resurrect it with such an idiotic response, let it go, all the others have !!!
  3. Ok, i give up. the minority has backed off due to the brow beating of the majority, or so it seems, of this forum. However, when you all tuck into a nice steak or bacon sarnie or sunday roast chicken i'm sure you will be happy in the knowledge that it was not killed for your pleasure, more because it was  ' due it ' cos of its age or something like that. Ridiculous comparism i hear you to say but true regardless. I also assume you all like honey, poor bees !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I just cannot see the point in getting into an argument about such different points of view. Clair, you obviously miss the point here, it has nothing what so ever to do with the content of the post, but everything to do with having the right to ask for HELPFUL  info and not getting people replying with their viewpoints on the rights and wrongs of the content. Why can't someone just post, just get an answer, and be left alone to get on with things. WJT,  In reference to my mention re negative posts, yes i have had negative posts replied to me and they were my very first postings on this web site soon after i arrived here in France, They concerned hunting here in France and my quest for info with regards to me looking into getting involved. Lovely baptism it was.
  5. Yes there is a massive difference. I do realise that what i like is not necessarily what others would like or even tolerate, but i do not come onto L:F and have a pop at someone else's postings. Like you, i choose what i like to spend my time on and money on too, for my benefits.  That is probably why you did not put a negative reply to my posting, you do have more important things to do with your time, even though your thoughts and principles are similar to the posters here. I would also imagine that a degree of impartiallity comes into play, but we are all entitled to our opinions, and free to air them in a public forum, but not at the expense of a posters quest for info. Like i said a request for help should be treated as such, not as a soap box for others to berate and voice their own opinions. Here is a novel idea, why can't they start another thread, stating the subject as' opposition to ..........'s posting re .......... ' that way the forum posters can  read the original posters thoughts and then reply in the affirmative if they can and if not they can read the oppositions thoughts and reply to that one instead, bit like a party political rally, like minded souls backing each other up and not offending others . Point being that the poster may get some aid, and even encourage others to post who may be anxious to do so because of the response and treatment they may recieve from others here if they did and seem to favour assisting the original poster.
  6. I agree, anyone that needs to use a live animal for a rush or bit of fun deserves what they get in my opinion. Just a quickie in response to you WJT, does taking photographs of live animals come into that category ?? In a zoo for example, poor lions eh !! In the wild, or should i say in a fenced area,  that seems to be in the wild for tourists to coo over and snap away happily ?? But then again its just for fun isn't it............................................ We all have crosses to bear, some more noticeable than others,  even those who like horse riding or even donkeys on the beach, why even people who keep parrots etc tut tut Never been on a horse drawn carriage, or would like to ? See above re using animals for fun
  7. Whats with you people on here, this is one of the reasons i stopped using this forum. I post here for two reasons, the first for my own personal benefit, eg,  to gain info for the things in  my life, be it work or pleasure and the second to assist people wno ask for info on their chosen subject.  I do not pontificate on the rights and wrongs or have a go at someone for what they ask, believe in or seek info about for two reasons, first is that i dont have the right to have a go cos i dont believe/support their chosen subject matter and the second is that i would end up like many of you all on here, narrow minded and nosey. I shall close by saying that if you have something constructive to say in reply to someone's posting then do so, if not then leave the space for those who can, salut, Hugh.
  8. Yeah odile, thanks for that ! Was asking for helpful advice [:)]
  9. Hey JK, hows life in Paris? hope you are well. As for being fun, yes perhaps after the run but i would hazard a guess that at the time a one and a half ton bull three inches from your backside would induce the strongest laxative known to man or woman. But its one of my must do things before age and time catch up, hopefully this year will be the year. Glad to see you are still active on the forum, gotta fly, work beckons, Hugh.
  10. Hi, thanks for replying. I checked out the san fermin site and had a grin on my face a mile wide, definately going to give it a go, been meaning to do so for a few years but never had the company. I still don't but i want to do so while i feel fit enough, bring it on, Hugh.
  11. I once saw a Golden Pheasant (from a train) in Yorkshire, and that would be fairly unlikely as a wild bird. Very beautiful, but very daft. Hi Dick, gamekeepers often put down more exotic looking pheasants and use them to gauge if poachers are working in the area, theory being they will shoot/capture ' the fancy looking one' and the fact that it is missing usually sets the keeper on a more vigilant time, same theory applies to black and often white coloured rabbits, Though it is fair to say that the rabbits are also put there to introduce new blood lines. As for seeing kites and buzzards hunting, if possible pick a windy day when the farmer is harvesting his silage and sit back and marvel at the intuition of these birds as they follow the bailing machine and swoop down on all the mice that flee from their cover, bad news for the mice, but great for us, Hugh.
  12. Not sure if this is the right section, but here goes anyway. I am looking at going down there this year, 7th -14th July for the festivals. Anybody been there and can offer any advice? Was also thinking about taking part in the bull run !!!! Anyone done it and can offer advice, apart from dont be so stupid as i have been told, on getting involved with the run and if there are stations at which to register your intentions ? Any info or help will be greatly appreciated, Hugh.
  13. Hi all, done a back check but failed to get the info required, as far as i can see. Got caught doing 82 kmh in a 50 kmh zone , i know how bad that is before i get pelters [:(] but i need to know if i now have to change my UK licence for a french one because of the points i have recieved.  It states ' perte de points du permis de conduire'   OUI   in the white box but no reference to how many. Checked the back of the Avis de contravention, as advised previously on the forum, but no sign of any totals or tables of reference. Can someone supply me with any info ? It is also a company van, does that create any special differences ? I sent of the chq yesterday for 90 euro. Many thanks, Hugh.
  14. Go to sawmill that makes parquet and they will have the raw material still with edged on them, point and draw, always gets a response
  15. Saw my first two on a fence between Mussidan and Neuvic in the Dordogne.
  16. Best caption time again ??? what an echo !!!!!!
  17. well, this IS a rugby thread...[;-)] Sorry raindog, it was meant tongue in cheek after reading that the only reason Scotland won was because England were dire and as such made the result unworthy. [:D]
  18. What a great result for Scotland yesterday, did anyone see it ??????? England played badly i think because Scotland did not let them play....even though England must have fielded a strong team because they still had a chance if winning something, still the Calcutta cup will do us, even though we are rubbish !!!! And before i get slated for knowing nothing about rugby then save it for someone who cares, because you are right, i know precious little about the game but i am proud to be Scottish, win, lose or draw i still support my country's efforts.
  19. Excepting that you are ingesting rather large amounts of sodium salts in your drinking and cooking water. Not a good idea!   So should i be tasting salty water then ??
  20.  Hagar, i have seen angler fish whole and also conger eel( ugly mutha ) and even porbeagle shark on the slab. Who said crabs are good looking [:)]
  21. I have in my garage a blue cast iron box that holds salt cubes etc, and this is directly after the mains water coming in. This was in when we bought and the previous owner said to prevent calcaire building up change every 6 mnths or so, we have only noticed the deposits in the kettle for example building up recently so we have changed the salt tabs today. Hope that it clears up the problem, but till now our water tastes fine. Not much to look at and obviously cheap to use, no electricity, but it works, Hugh.
  22. Well said Cerise, this is exactly the type of posting that is required, concise and exact with no if's and buts. My posting was an opinion, a grey area i said, and i was asked a question directly in which i tried to answer correctly to the best of my knowledge. If only you had noticed the posting earlier then you could have saved all the unnecessary postings/ daft comments [:)] Hugh.
  23. Is it just me, but I've always fancied sporting an arc of sharks teeth scars across my chest - just figured it'd be a bit of a talking point - akin to Quint and Hooper in "Jaws". Well here's what you have to do, book a flight to S Africa and head for a well known Great White killing field area, there are a few that cage divers use for viewing, and rubby dubby the area well. Upon sighting your chosen shark quickly get out the gaffa tape and secure firmly a large bloodied tuna or oily/bloody fish to your chest,[8-)] keep it back from your head mind ( dont want any silly mistakes to happen, eh !! ) [;-)]and jump into the sea thrashing your arms and legs wildly, when said shark spots you and approaches you in a 'polaris missile' style attack just stick out your chest and revel in the thought about your party piece. When you get out of hospital and join the guys in the unmarked white van ( aka the nuthouse run ) please do write back to us at LFF and let us know how you are, regards, Hugh [:D]
  24. I think that all works undertaken by family and friends, free gratis, always carries an element of risk to life and limb. As for being registered to help out a friend it's a slightly grey area for me, having a mates weekend and painting/decorating and barbie and beer to follow would i think be deemed sound however any serious building works could incur the wrath of French beaurocrats somewhere. There could be several elements to take into consideration like insurance and medical care etc should anything happen, that said there are many who have help from friends putting up a shed or laying a concrete base for a garage ??? and not all British. In my opinion, can't see any harm in it nor the need to inform Chm de Met, what would they say if you did ' pop in ' and mention it....Gallic shrug with a who gives a ..... look on their faces. A matter of personal choice i think and a good risk assessment prior to starting
  25. Even though he made it look easy, it was still after dark before he finished so it is still time consuming. And as for applying silicone, any fitter will tell you that it is getting the finished silicone to look good instead of meandering blobs/lines of errant silicone that makes all the difference, That apart, its easy as pie..........to a novice cook [:D]
