  3. Penny - It sounds just wonderful, the only possible little thing there may be a question over is >>Do you think owners would prefer to provide their own food, bedding and toys?

Connie, you may do better to post this question in the 'Pets' or even gardening section as the 'right' people are more likely to look there! Gay

  6. What a wonderful hobby gardening is - no sooner have you waved farewell to one project or season than you are planning the next, or even the one after that. Good Luck with your new venture, I'm sure your French garden will give you every bit as much pleasure as your English one. Gay
  7. It might be worth finding out Maternity services for normal births in your area of the Uk, 24 - 48 only hour stays in hospital are not unusual in this area (Reading) Also remember availability of family, if you think you may want them nearby etc. A friend told me that she had her first child in Normandy and lunch including wine was served every day for a week.....sounds good to me ! Gay
  8. This is quite a useful site http://www.brocantemag.fr/FR/index.php I have got some interesting stuff at vide grenier ect, but would also suggest trying www.ebay.fr. Happy Hunting Gay

  10. Thanks Gastines - what a waste of a building - the fact its used for storage suggests it doesn't flood, it must have a great view from the upper floors too. I agree with you about the area, we have had two week long holidays and two long weekends around there as well, esp good for a short break as there is quite a lot worth seeing in a compact area. Gay
  11. Re post - Had to use 'Chromopost' (sp?) this week which meant that a parcel probably weighed 2lbs took just 24 hours but cost 65 Apart from that there is international recorded which is slower but of course cheaper. You should also perhaps reference postings by 'Coco' (magnifying glass at top of page)who found her payments to the French system a lot larger than she anticipated when she was doing something broadly similar!! 12. Prune it ! Instructions here. http://www.gardenseeker.com/pruning/pruning_wisteria_.htm They recommend February but I usually do mine in March and in fact still haven't pruned mine this year, but its a little later than usual, so it won't mind being trimmed, even now. 13. My bank will take foreign cheques, and charges a similar fee, however if you are taking funds from third parties you should check on the clearance time. I once had a dollar cheque bounce after 6 weeks ! Gay http://www.quimperclub.org
  14. The BBC have reported that the Queen will be making a couple of speeches in French on her trip to celebrate 'entente cordiale' - as I once read that she often communicated with her mother and sister in French I wonder just how accomplished she is ? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org
  15. LAST EDITED ON 29-Mar-04 AT 08:39 PM (GMT) Are you sure there is actually a law ? I shared your belief but when I commented about it, my cousin who was a magistrate specialising in family law, said it was a recommendation for councils when allocating council houses, I could be wrong but I seem to remember her saying that its not actually law. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org
  16. Do all the companies insist on credit cards being used ? If you are resident will they not accept a cheque ? Or is it a case of a credit card being essential so that they can charge more if there is a problem ? Perhaps there are some smaller, local operators that could help. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org
  17. Surely your doctor should be the first port of call, deafness could be caused by any number of curable conditions, couldn't it ? Gay www.russethouse.co.uk
  18. LAST EDITED ON 18-Mar-04 AT 09:02 PM (GMT) The Independent has announced the death of Alexander Goudie, the Scottish artist who was responsible for much of the decoration on the Brittany Ferries boat 'Bretagne'. Pottery figures that he designed for the HB Henriot Faiencerie in Quimper are usually on display in the glass cases as you go to the main restaurant and piano bar. Goudies wife came from Brittany and they spent a lot of time there, especially in the summer. Gay www.russethouse.co.uk
  19. Sometimes with ads for gites you see (or used to) see invitations to book the ferry through the gite owner and get a better deal on the price - any info on this please ? Gay www.russethouse.co.uk
  20. I see your point however I think its a little pedantic in this instance. In proportion to the number of posts in this thread surely a few tips about how to type a Euro symbol are permitted? (at least its relevant and useful) I would suggest just changing the title when you are posting something 'off track' so it makes it easier for people looking for info. Gay www.russethouse.co.uk

  24. Jill, These type of mirrors are often available at any large wholesalers of repro stuff. Try your local antique centre and ask if they can get you one.(or look out at Easter on your trip) A genuine old one in good condition is difficult to find and expensive. Gay www.russethouse.co.uk
