Do you expect free WIFI when holidaying in France ?

Paper map? It's always out of date.... -
Great post.

Perhaps just buy another box off ebay? Probably cheaper than getting one repaired. Nowadays electronic devices are almost unrepairable.

At Lewes they burn effergies of the Pope on Bonfire night. That seems a tad anti RC?

google 'automatic bidding on ebay'. There are systems which will place bids for you in the last seconds of an auction. They will bid for you an agreed increment above the last bid up to a maximum you specify. You will only be beaten by another bidder with a higher max than you.

That seems fast. I'm delighted to get 2.1mb down. You suffer for living in the sticks with 10km of copper between you and the exchange!!!

We had an excellent french doctor who spoke no english and who retired and was replaced by an excellent french doctor who worked in London for some 10 years. Instead of 'Monsieur Kong', he leans into the waiting room and calls 'hi John'. He prefers to speak English and I'm sure I'm understanding everything he has to say. I'm quite happy dealing with other medics in french but it is reassuring to have a fluent english speaker for your medic.

True. But are you surprised?

Tons of proteins - dairy products galore. I'll pour creme on anything. I just keep taking the statins! I've got some marmalade with chunky peel that I made begging to be opened. The label says 1995 - Mrs Beeton no2 recipe. Back to a previous post re raw eggs. I love steak tartare. But since I became a qualified geriatric My system won't accept very rare or raw meat. So another pleasure abandoned.

I did manage to wrigle out of type 2 diabetes by dropping as many wheat based products as I could. So no bread, just an occasional croissant left by B&B guests. I avoid pizzas and anything with pastry. Some Rattes potatoes in season because I can't resist and rice. Sanity is maintained because I continue to enjoy lots of wine and a little beer! Breakfast is scrambled eggs with sauteed mushrooms or tomatoes stirred in. Sadly no toast or marmalade even though I make the stuff.

Muffins = sugar. Yuk. I hated American breakfasts. Just give me eggs scrambled lightly in butter with black pepper and a little salt. Poached eggs are innocuous and boring!

The one I mentioned above, the collector is made of pliable rubber and is easily removed for cleaning.

Or try this: https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00CRE9QE8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 No need to cut zinc pipe. It comes with a hole saw so you need a drill and screwdriver. Took me five minutes to fix.

What the hell is happening in Dover ?
Kong replied to alittlebitfrench's topic in Travelling to/from France
True, but more and more of those with more than one gite are getting flexible to accommodate flights to local airports that don't schedule saturday flights and for the benefit of those who avoid the bouchons by travelling mid week. -
If you have a dish then you probably have satellite reception. The choice of decoder will depend on which satellite you're using. I have TNTSAT (on Astra at 19.2 degrees E) and have decoders from the internet for around 100€ with card. There is alternatively Fransat on a different satellite. Let us know which decoder you have now. If you really do have terrestial then I'm surprised you have a dish. Hope this helps.

On the first night of the Proms the first item played in a packed Albert Hall was the Marseillaise. Brill.

Try www.teatower.com. I buy all my loose leaf tea from them. They're Belgian.

Important - postal vote needs a stamp!
Kong replied to Fittersmate's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
You were quite clear. As I said we will never know! -
Apologies. Just re-read original post and realize you are going from france to UK and of course you do need a pet passport going that way.

Kong replied to Fittersmate's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
How can it be overweight if there is no indication of a tariff on the envelope? I can't believe the UK government would risk sending out millions of overseas postal voting packs (for the first time with paid return postage) without ensuring the various countries would cooperate. The awful thing is you will never know whether your vote arrived and was subsequently counted! -
We went via car through tunnel. The only time cat was completely relaxed was travelling through the tunnel! No passport needed as it was a one-way trip. Cat was heavily sedated and hated the trip but took to his new home immediately. That was six years ago and he is still flourishing. It helped that there were two of us as it was white knuckles for the driver over the twelve hour trip.

They're obviously desperate I should vote - they have sent me two sets of postal voting papers!
