  1. Still trickling in here, cards etc from mid December. It really detracts from the pleasure of receiving a card weeks after the event. All of the senders sent their cards in good time. It's good the french don't make such a huge fuss about cards...
  2. I am still receiving cards sent mid December via Royal Mail from the UK. Through the year deliveries from the UK via Royal Mail have taken from weeks to months. Deliveries by others are usually here within a couple of days. Is the Royal Mail managed by the same people as the NHS?
  3. WIFI is a means of intercommunication within an establishment, it's not a connection like ADSL via a phone line or satellite. If the gite doesn't have a connection to the internet with some sort of router which is an internet device you will need a dongle as mentioned above which connects via a mobile to a mobile provider such as orange etc.
  4. I don't see how having a wifi dongle will be of any use in a place without wifi. You can have a mobile dongle that will give you access to the internet via a mobile service but that will probably involve a contract just like a mobile phone and is expensive if you need heavy data usage.
  5. If the neighbours are already living there presumably they have access by other means, in which case this will not apply?
  6. Normally you would access the internet via WIFI on your phone through your ISP on your fixed line ASDL service. When your out and about data roaming will access the internet via your mobile signal - in your case Free. If data roaming is turned off you won't be able to access the internet except via WIFI when away from home.
  7. I was under the impression Free's current offer is 100Go on a 3G network with a 4G mobile: G illimitée (100 Go en 3G) réservée aux abonnés Freebox (100 Go en 4G/3G pour les non abonnés Freebox) et avec mobile 4G, en France métropolitaine. 3 Go avec mobile 3G. Débit réduit au-delà des 100 Go / 3 Go. With my android phone, if Iturn off WIFI and turn on data roaming, then a symbol comes up showing network eg H, 3, 4
  8. Seen on TV a few minutes ago - 50% abstention...?
  9. I am reviving this thread with a slight twist. Currently I have an Orange setup with copper wires, Livebox and a wifi extender on the domestic power supply. My house is split by a 2m thick wall - hence the extender which works well. Recently the land line has deteriorated (max before last total collapse 2,5 Mps). My Orange package is for Internet, VOIP phone and TV. The TV doesn't work and I don't want it (I have alternative for that) and there are plenty of mobiles in the house. Now our line is completely down and Orange have said the physical line will be back up by the end of June, but they didn't say which year... I'm looking at some sort of hotspot MIFI to connect 3G/4G (one day) but with an ethernet port to connect to my existing extender to get the connection to the other house. Please have you any suggestions? Thanks in anticipation.
  10. ...and responsible for the mathematics curriculum in primary schools.....
  11. It works both ways. A couple of years ago a nice sum of money appeared in my bank account. A few weeks later a letter arrived from the fisc announcing a rebate....
  12. If you put in the interest amount in line 233 and then 0 (zero) in 234 and tab out the other relevant lines down to the 2TR (242) will be populated for you.
  13. The new plastic £5 notes in the UK must be washable, but sadly they ain't worth much now...
  14. I think you have it right and it's what I'm doing. The rubric corresponds with last years entry on 2047. The public and private pensions are still lumped together on form 2047 but split apart on form 2042.. Sue your summary is very succinctly put - well done! What changes will they make next year!! :o)
  15. I think it is. My take on this the Taux is tax rate taken in the country of origin of the interest. Basically we are not able to claim a reduction on tax in France so the interest is declared without any abbatement as income and you pay french tax on it. If the UK lopped off 20% you have to claim it back from HMRC, but I think now interest is payed gross in the UK. This is how I see it so please seek other opinions on this.
  16. Try sticking in zero in Taux applicable or even 0,0% (note comma) and then should go on to show amount in 242 which is box 2TR
  17. there is one downside with Booking.yea taking credit card details and that is we have had a few guests that thought they had payed for their stay when they booked. Once we had to 'phone Customer service and ask them to explain that they had not paid. This has not enhanced their view of us as good hosts.
  18. We have been using Sumup for a few weeks now and it has proved very useful. However some payments can take up to a week to arrive at our bank - particularly South American guests! Chancer I would keen to hear how you get on establishing CNP. We could well use it for no shows (fortunately very rare for us).
  19. For us it is psychologically really good to have two payments in one of the months every year.
  20. I lumped it in with other interest on 2047 line 242 box 2TR (same as we agreed last year?)
  21. Yes. Older Sky boxs have scart connectors, if it's young enough it may have HDMI. Connect the sky box to the TV with either an HDMI cable or Scart cable. On the TV select 'source' or 'input' and then select scart or HDMI. Job done. The freeview tuner is then redundant as the source for that is probably 'antenna'. Hope this helps.
  22. It is reported in the french press too....
