  1. Our neighbour in the Limousin uses the fruit from our trees to make jam, as we are not there when the fruit is ripe. He gives us a large quantity of jam to take home with us when we next visit. As we are not great jam eaters, large jars go to waste fairly quickly (no preservatives!!) Has anyone tried freezing jam ? In smaller quantities this would appear to be the best solution. Just wanted to know if anyone has tried it before I waste a jar in an experiment!

  3. One of the pop-ups that appears on that site is WinFixer - its spyware [:(]
  4. Try http://www.video.google.com and search for ymca - theres quite a few cringe-worthy examples [:D]
  5. I've just had an engineer add a hot water reservoir to our oil fired heating system and he said that the tank should be 'bunded'. I.e double skinned with the outer skin able to hold the entire contents of the tank. As a double skinned tank appears to be about £800, I'll be heading to Point P for some breezeblocks [:)]
  6. Can anyone tell me the 'standard' size of a  plastic soil pipe in France? And are strap bosses easily obtainable or should I bring them from the UK ?
  7. We got ours when we renewed last time - the letter implies there was a box to tick with 'send me a new card instead of a form' option
  8. Got one this morning, but I don't bank with them anyway !!
  9. To give you some idea of the cost, I have had a quote for solar panels for water heating - 2 x 2.2sq metre  = €4,650 installed
  10. How about using bicycle tyres to cover up gaps in the floorboards ? http://www.alenda.freeserve.co.uk/house3_4.html
  11. For anyone who wants to try it.............. http://www.cryonics.org/
  12. I would match the upstairs to the downstairs. In my own case, I have a stone walled farmhouse inside a barn, so I feel traditional is the way to go. Plaster over the stone walls has blown so we are removing it all and going back to chaux pointed stone. The size and shape of the rooms I feel would look out of place if we did not use traditional materials. Do you have any pictures you could put on the web somewhere? It may make it easier for people to comment.
  13. Stranger and stranger! I use Firfox as a browser and it initiates a download even if I click the 'open with' box. If I use IE 6 then all I get is a 'clonk' noise and no change of page. Apparently IE6 is now downloading in the background (sneaky!) and will open the video in WMP when it’s finished!
  14. We are in the process of having our oil fired bolier adapted to be able to heat hot water. The reservoir to be fitted will also take an input from solar panels to heat the water when the sun shines and the controller will decide when to top up the heat from the boiler. As we don't live in France we are not yet installing the solar panels (cost a little too high at the moment!), so I can only tell you of our visit to the engineers. The guy who is fitting it runs the same system in his own house. He has 4sq m panels over the roof of his garage and on an overcast day in March, the tank water temperature was 68 degrees C. You could not hold your hand under the water coming out of the hot tap. A good enough demonstration for me to put the system in !
  15. I have a spelling checker I disk covered four my PC. It plane lee marks four my revue Miss steaks aye can knot see.   Eye ran this poem threw it. Your sure real glad two no. 17. "If you have a TV in the UK,you have to have a license even if you only watch videos on it!!" Just to throw in my 0.02€ To quote the TV Licensing Authority - no you don't "If you use a TV or any other device to receive or record TV programmes (for example, a VCR, set-top box, DVD recorder or PC with a broadcast card) - you need a TV Licence. You are required by law to have one." http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/index.jsp#link1
  18. Great Site Opel Fruit !!! Worth a look even for those in the know
  19. Indeed it has (administration 27/7/05) - and if you got the scanner 'free' with the PC, then IMHO there is no way you are going to get spares for it
  20. I agree with Dick I've just found an Epson Perfection 3170 Flatbed Scanner for £135 on the web - the site then says you can spares on their authorised spares partner's website. However, thats for Epson printers - no spares for the scanner
  21. Baz Yes I believe the stats. The man in the street thinks he can just buy a PC and connect it to the internet and he's sorted. Unfortunately the places that usually sell these products do nothing to clue up the clueless as to what they should be doing. Fortunately, high take up of broadband will actually improve the situation. More PCs will be sold - the majority of which will have XP installed which is far better security wise (at default settings) than M$ has ever produced (of course with the extra service packs etc etc !!)
  22. "someone stealing his details" I don't suppose we know how they were stolen? Did he have a personal firewall on his PC? Did he have anti-virus software running? Does he open up every SPAM special offer he is sent? Does he have adware killer software on his PC and use it ? Does he download 'free' games from 'strange' websites? I know we shouldn't have to learn about PCs just because we use the internet, but it is advisable to know what protection you should take, after all its your money.
