1. I bow to your superior knowledge. Funny thing is I am quite a regular on a few satellite forums and it seems they all refer to freesat as Freesat! Anyway, I wonder if the OP sorted his problems.
 2.
To the O/P So if I understand it correctly you have two <<free to air sat receivers>>;   as their menus appear to be in foreign languages they are not from Sky and they're probably not "freesat" boxes.
Don't want to start a war, but if the boxes pick up free to air stuff from any satellite, they are freesat boxes. If the boxes are the special ones for UK Freesat (note the capital F), then they are Freesat (or with a PVR, Freesat+) boxes. I know it can be confusing, what with Sky, Sky+, and Sky free to view as well!
 3. You probably need to go into the setup menu, probably pressing menu or setup on the remote, try to find the language options and then change it to English. What make and model do you have? Do a google search for it, and you will probably find a link to the instruction manual.
 4.
Thanks Crabtree, very much.[:)]  Did you buy the right "blanks" or just print them on sticky paper and cut it up, or print on plain and glue/tape them on?
I already had some labels, and they worked fine. When you use the site you do not have to pay anything until you have checked the print (if you want to!). They have settings for all sorts of labels, so it is fairly straight forward.
 5. It is not the right term, but hopefully most will know what you mean. It is a freesat box (not to be confused with a Freesat box!). You will have to do a rescan for the channels, as they all moved recently. (The Freesat box does the changes automatically). If you need to input the exact frequencies and settings see here.
 6. Exactly, a doddle. It saves a trip to the Post Office. You can also do parcels at Colissimo. They also have the site stamps in English.
 7. Search google for it, there are loads of free options.
 8.
What is with the FA (and FIFA and EUFA) and the wearing of a poppy. The ref has been told to stop the match if the players come onto the pitch wearing a poppy.
If the poppy is the loose type with plastic stem, like you would attach to a jacket/shirt/jumper/coat (sometimes with a pin), then it would be classed as dangerous by the FA, as they class rings, watches, ear rings etc. as dangerous. They can come onto the pitch wearing these types of poppy (e.g for a minutes silence), but cannot wear them for the match itself. If the poppy is the embroidered type then no problem.
 9.

I've just about done this topic to death now. [:-))]
Sorry to keep it alive then.  But I do think it's worth pointing out (yet again) the fact that the Sky Freesat equivalent box has more channels which the advice to "ditch the Skybox" continues to completely ignore every time this subject comes up.  It's probably of no interest to KneeGel but it might be.  I may not be the only motorsport enthusiast on this forum.
I think you will find with the new satellite (Astra 1N) coming on-line any-time now (CH4 HD currently testing), I think you will find that FREESAT will soon have all those that are currently on $ky freesat. This will have a spot-beam to alleviate the problems of cross border broadcasting.
 10. You have to create a folder on the USB stick. Using file manager, navigate to the USB drive, then using the BLUE button create folder. Once created click into the folder so it is open. Then navigate to the file you want to copy and select it, now you should be able to copy it by pressing the GREEN button. That should do it - I hope!
 11.
I would put money that the answer is "No" but has anyone found a way to transfer TV video recordings onto a USB so they can be viewed elsewhere e.g. on laptop or tablet computer? Steve
The answer is yes, using VLC media player. Except encrypted HD programmes. You can also view the media files on your network (if you have one) - see here
 12.

in terms of day to day
In terms of customer service French banking is an absolute lottery. For every person who says XYZ Bank are great, six others will say they are useless. And vice versa. Avoid regional banks e g Credit Agricole, which appear to be national but aren't. Apart from that I found La Poste to be very customer friendly and helpful. It helps that in the more remote areas you normally find one constant customer representative that covers one or more Post Offices.
Seconder for La Banque Postale.
 13.
Norman, I use the newer version of Openoffice on both Windoze 64 and Linux. It is called Libreoffice, but is just the same.
LibreOffice seems to be run by the originators of OpenOffice, and also updates more often. If anyone is interested it can be downloaded here.
 14. Good machine, and with the network added makes it great!
 15. Here you go, have a look at these forums: http://hummy.tv/forum/ http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?s=c707c63a703fb7980ea6f61e6eaf510b&f=199 http://myhumax.org/forum/ http://www.avforums.com/forums/freesat/ This is the guide how to do it: http://www.avforums.com/forums/freesat/1442060-media-file-server-bundle-foxsat-hdr-release-3-dummies-guide.html Yes, you can use CPL, it is how I do it! Plenty of information and help on these forums too. Regards, Paul.
 16. I have Humax Foxsat 320gb PVR, and IT IS accessible from my network Bob, you just need to add some software to it!!!!!
 17. Press 'Schedule' then 'Red'. No need to press the guide button. EPG updates are now routinely done (along with other stuff) by the box automatically at 03:00 (UK time). If the box is off 15 minutes before a scheduled recording is due, it switches on to check if there has been any more EPG changes. Do you know you can access all the stuff on your Humax from your PC (if you have a network)? Regards, Paul.
 18. French TNT & UK Freesat.
 19. Great post. Works well, no ill effects. If you do not want it on all the time, ie., only when accessing necessary sites, you can disable it loading with windows, and if you have a decent firewall you can tell the firewall that it has to ask each time before it accesses the internet. To disable it loading with Windows, right click on the 'tray' icon, and you will see an option to prevent it loading on reboot, et voila.
 20.
I recently did exactly what you want to do. This place will build something to your exact requirements, or you can buy one of their off the shelf 'towers'. They will also send it to France. Everything will be in English for you, including OS, if you need it.
I contacted these people direct, and negotiated a price with them. If you know what you want and how much it will cost, I reckon they will build it for you at a better price. At least they did for me.
If you are hoping to implant your HD straight into another tower and for it to work then you are likely in for a big disappointment. Because of the new (alien) hardware your current Windows installation will throw a complete hissy fit and almost certainly BSOD on switch on after which a clean install will probably be your only option. Do you have original non OEM media to accomplish that ? Also, if 'many years buffeting about' is meant literally, then mechanical failure is probably not far off and with HD's the cheapest they have ever been it would be short sighted in the extreme to build a high end machine based on such ancient critical core components. The issue of IDE -v- SATA has already been mentioned. Regarding your link, no ATOM based PC is going to cut the mustard for an application which you think needs 6-10gb of RAM. As far as I can tell the ATOM 410 only supports 4gb of DDR2 RAM anyway and would be like buying a Mini to compete in FI. I agree with others that very few if any domestic users will ever need or see benefit from more than 4gb of RAM, what is you want to do that you imagine you need 6-10gb for or are you just being greedy ?
I recently moved Windows 7 Hard Disk to a new system, used Paragon Hard Disk Manager, using their P2P adjust OS. Worked perfectly, just needed to add a couple of new drivers. Highly Recommended.
 21. I never said anything about it being cheaper, I was just giving the OP another option!
