  1. I have spoken with Speedferries in the last hour because my sailing tomorrow is cancelled due to the overhaul/refit. The member of staff assures me that SPEEDONE will back in service on 14th September 2004. I sincerely hope that it is. I am booked to return to the UK using Speedferries on the 18th and I want to go to the Auchan at Boulogne before returning to the UK.  If I have to drive up to Calais I will not be amused irrespective of the fact that it is only 30 mins further on. David
  2. Hopefully none of you will be sharing your homes with the termite infestation shown on a Channel 4 program last night. Lady bought a farm house in the Dordogne and having been there some while heard noises coming from the wooden beams etc. The house had already been checked as part of the compris de vente and apparently cleared. She hired a person who examines houses for termites. He found all the timbers he touched virtually crumbled to sawdust due to the termite infestation. It was his opinion that the infestation had been there for about 20 years - she only bought the house a year earlier!!!! The lady is now suing the vendor, the notaire and the original termite inspector. Apparently to repair the damage caused by the infestation, it will cost as much as what it cost her to buy the house which in this case was €100.000.
  3. Neil   Have a look here and EJP - although it would appear that it is no longer availbale - will be explained (I hope!!!) http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://particuliers.edf.fr/article557.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dejp%2Bfrance%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8 David
  4. Dublin Annie Washing machines are available in France with higher spin speeds (upto 1600 rpm) but their load size still leaves a lot to be desired. I have also noticed that the higher the spin speed the higher the cost of the machine. Spin driers or seche-linges are also available as separate devices. To give you an idea have a look here http://www.darty.com select the tab marked "Electromenager" and then the first one in the drop down list. David
  5. Hoddy Thank you very much for the information - just changed my outward travel plans for this Saturday to Hoverspeed. I was looking forward to trying out Speedferries. Looks like it will have to wait until I come back the following week. David
  6. This may be the link that you are looking for http://www.livingfrance.com/instantforum/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=18&messageid=2673 David
  7. Quote: (Lets face it, there was naff-all else to do in Norfolk on a week day in the early 70's!)   Nothing has changed then!!!   David
  8. Peter I do not know what other forums (fora?) that you visit on the web, however there is a crew member of SPEEDONE by the name of Ken who does monitor one of the other forums. He is always interested in ALL feedback - whether positive or negative - in relation to Speedferries. He will be interested in your feedback because he does, apparently, pass it on to the powers that be. I will be trying Speedferries for the first time on Saturday 11th Sept so it will be interesting to find out how I fare at their hands so to speak. If you would like to know which forum Ken posts on, then PM or email me and I will forward you the details. Regards   David H PS. NO I do not have any connection with Speedferries in anyway shape or form.
  9. Does my damaged wrist the world of good - thank you.   Now where's me choccie?????????? David
  10. I have now managed to resolve the issue regarding paging through topics - my beloved firewall was to blame. So ZoneAlarm Pro  has been give the order of the boot and the Kerio Personal Firewall installed instead This move has also cured the delete button malaise on my keyboard - David H   PS - the forum software works better as well because of this move!!!!
  11. Windows XP SP2 I.E.6 AVG 7 Zone Alarm Firewall ADSL Microsoft Keyboard Like a lot of people, suffering from slow speed when accessing pages on this site. If a topic covers more than one page then clicking on the NEXT button does nothing at all - I have to go back to the index where the topic is listed and click on the page number there. When doing a search, if the results list covers more than one page, then the next button will not take me to the second page. I know that I have subscribed to at least one topic this week but this does not appear as a listing in Forum Subscriptions in Control Panel - and yes I did receive the email notification to say that the topic had been updated. Now this is were the keyboard comes into play. For some reason the standard delete button on my keyboard has ceased to work whilst composing this reply. I have to go beyond the letter/word I wish to delete and use the backspace button. I do not know if this is a forum software related issue or a hardware clash. David
  12. Good morning I don't know about getting 95% pure alcohol, but recipes that I have found  on these sites: http://beverage.allrecipes.com/AZ/Limncll.asp http://whatscookingamerica.net/Beverage/Limoncello.htm  http://www.ivillage.co.uk/food/tools/recipefinder/display_recipe/0,,5879,00.html all use vodka as the alcohol base. Would that be an acceptable substitute? David
  13. I hope your French is better than mine. I found this page on the French Volvo site. It should give you what you need to know. http://www.volvocars.fr/FinancialServices/Importation+de+véhicules.htm Good luck David
  14. How are they gaining access to your property and pool? David
  15. Good evening I have done a search on Google just using the word "aquasensor" and at the top of the list cane this site - http://www.real-piscines-spas.com/poolsafety/alarms.html Reading their information tends to suggest that you will need two sensors if your pool exceeds 10mx5m. I hope that this is of some help to you. David
  16. LAST EDITED ON 20-Aug-04 AT 02:42 PM (BST) Courtesy of the forum, I have found a very nice B&B for my first proper holiday in France next month. Can't wait!!! David
  17. Jennifer I cannot answer your question about the car insurance as I do not live in France. However one thing that I can assist you with is this. DVLA MUST be notified of the permanent export of your car. Further information regarding this can be found here http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/exptimpt.htm#Exports Good luck with your move and I hope all goes well for you. David
  18. Could this be what your friend was referring to? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/de.sullivan/ftvchanges.htm David
  19. Is there such a thing as a French equivalent of Section 136 of the Mental Health Act that we have here in the UK? The reason that I ask is this. Here in the UK, if a person - in the considered opinion of a Police Officer - is found in a PUBLIC PLACE* in such a deranged condition that he/she is considered to be a danger to themselves or others, then a Police Officer has a power of arrest under Section 136 and can convey that person to a place of safety for relevant assessment. PUBLIC PLACE* in this instant in the UK means that once a person has set foot outside their front gate and on to the public highway. Any legal beagles out there that can answer this one??? David
  20. Forgive my ignorance as I have not yet moved to France and therefore have yet to come across these problems. I have also read and taken note of the contents of the LF forum. In relation to this subject, I am now asking myself, "Is this another matter that should be made part of the "compromis de vente"? I.E. the premises will be sold to the buyer complete with......etc David
  21. Good morning su Go to this location http://www.wunderground.com/global/FR.html and once you have selected the relevant place, you can check the weather history for last month. David
