1. A view from the other side of the "fence"?? I vacationed (is that a correct term?) at an establishment that belongs to one of the posters on this subject. This was the first time I had taken a vacation in France since a school exchange visit back in 1968. I will not mention the place that I stayed at as it might be conceived to be advertising. My hosts are lovely people and the food was second to none. However I can understand the reticence of one poster when it comes to sitting down with guests night after night and partaking of a four course meal. The accommodation was superb - it had been a long time since I had slept solidly for eight to nine hours a night. Even the bags under my eyes had started to disappear by the end of my stay. Perhaps the genuine calvados helped?    Yes, the questions that you have all outlined were asked and all the answers given and without further prompting. I was even introduced to another member of their family and all four of us went out to dinner on the Thursday evening of my stay. I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation - I have yet to line up another one - however there is one question I would like to ask. I am a retired Police Officer and during my service I was trained to learn and observe the contents of the Human Rights Act 1998 (now referredd to as the HRA), as applicable to the UK, and the European Convention of Human Rights. Under the HRA, every person has a right to privacy and security of person, this being something which I have a tendency to observe. I appreciate that you folks who run B&B's,Chambressd'hotes etc MUST HAVE QUALITY TIME to yourselves. So how do you achieve this? Should there be a rule that a "guest" should vacate the room by a certain time in the morning and NOT return before a certain time of the afternoon, thus giving that quality time? I do not know the answer to that question. Perhaps some or all of you can enlighten me. Do not get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in France. However there were times when I thought that I was actually intruding on my hosts private time. A time that is special to them and them alone. That is not something I wish to do again WHEN I return to France.  My regards to you all and may all of you have a very successful season.
2. An excellent piece of writing Val. Like others on here, I am looking forward to the next chapter/instalment.
3. I found this website in a gardening magazine. The manufacturers claim it to be successful - mind you I suppose they would http://www.anti-mole.com The site has an Online Enquiry form so presumably you could ask if they would post to France.
4. "Just trying to work out a recipe for spinach, asparagus and rhubarb as that is what is currently in season in this garden " If you are stuck for ideas, may I suggest the Ready Steady Cook section on http://www.bbc.co.uk ?
5. Good afternoon John If my memory serves me correctly, unless the gas tank that you have was bought outright by the previous owners, then the gas tank is in fact owned by the company with whom the previous owners signed up with for the supply of the tank and the fuel. I am sure that someone on here will correct me otherwise should I be wrong in this assumption OR anything else that I have typed below. And then I will also learn. My understanding from various forums is that, if you wish to have a gas tank and supply installed, then you approach one of the suppliers e.g. Totalgaz (no I do not have any connection - pun intended - with them) and arrange to have a tank installed and get your gas from them. Once that contract is in place and the tank installed, I do believe, rightly or wrongly, that the company is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the tank as you effectively rent the tank from them. I appreciate that the above paragraph may seem a little bit superfluous because you ALREADY have a tank installed. But please bear this in mind when I ask the following questions: 1. With whom did the previous owners have a contract to have the tank installed ? 2. Does that contract still exist ? If it does, then you may find yourself legally obliged to carry on paying rent to them for the tank? (Irrespective from who you source your gas supply) 3. When you bought the property, was there any mention made about this gas tank and if so what were the conditions in place as regards its maintenance and any contract of supply and maintenance? If the tank was fitted on a private basis i.e. no contract then have a look on Pages Jaunes  here http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en This is the French Yellow Pages in English. Type in GUTANE AND PROPANE GAS (PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION) in the top box and your department number in the bottom box and hit the search button. You will get a number of replies and if you select the WWW savoir link, the first listed will be those who have a website - you will seen now why I have mentioned Totalgaz. Bonne chance mon ami.
6. I did read elsewhere of an old wives tale that if you were to pour Lait Ribot into the tunnels, it will drive the critters away for some time. However, I shudder to think what the odour in your garden would be like after a few days
7. Did my eyes deceive me ? Am I correct in thinking that the four poster was in its original wood patina when they put it up and then white in colour at the end of the programme ? As for the tree, when I first saw that I uttered words to the efect of OMG and was slightly less profound when the rerun was shown.  Talk about cutting it fine. As someone has already said, naivety (sp) appeared to feature a lot here when a little research could/would have saved them a great deal of hassle. But there again, would it have made a TV programme if everything had gone smoothly?
8. Roll on the introduction of Speed Two.
9. Quote: Mind you, they leave their own mark which may be worse? Could be good for the roses???
10. It would be interesting to know why the wardrobe had been covered up in the first place.

12. Thanks for that David. I will look forward to watching it.
13.
...Vive La France http://www.livingfrance.com/lvfra/content/article.asp?ArticleID=150
Yes already got my ticket for next Friday at Olympia so see you there.
14. Nope didn't see it. But then again as the title contained the name Jerry Springer, I would avoid it like the plague anyway.
15. Nick - give us some more details please even if it is only via PM.
16. Rdkr Could you not have had the table as well on the pretence that you were "exercising" your cueing arm?
17. Jill Have you tried this site? http://www.vire-tourisme.com/an/ The link gives the pages in English. The only reason that I know about it is because I was given the tourist booklet by the owner of Le Chapeau Rouge restaurant which is located not that far from the Torigini Sur Vire exit off the A84. The booklet is a mine of information in relation to what is on etc and the site even more so. Villedieu les Poeles is a nice town and so is the drive along the D924 from Villedieu towards Vire. I noticed from one of your postings that you say that you have made a reservation for a gite in Villedieu Les Poeles. I hope that your holiday is a success and that all of you get what you want from it.
18. Don't hold your breath folks. I have viewed the site where potential clients can view the properties. There is a fault with the website. If you click on details in any listing, it opens a new web page and produces the error ADODB.Command error '800a0d5d' Application uses a value of the wrong type for the current operation. /inc/advert_log_view.asp, line 53   I have emailed them.
19. Good morning I suggest that you go to this site http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en which is the French Yellow pages in English. Type osteopath or chiropractor in the top box and Riberac in the town box. Hit the search button. Select both options and you should find what you need.
20. Well done hrm2. I was wondering how to go about installing a new heating system in my home in the UK. Now I have the answer. Thank you very much indeed.
21. I have two advantages. 1. I cannnot receive France 3 in the UK 2. I never liked Dallas or JR in the first place. Enough said
22. Opas - I am beginning to wonder whether or not Peter and yourselves are in Australia rather than south east France. Out in t-shirts, going to the beach, whatever next??
