Putting a new rubber tube on the gas heater - any hints?
Anton Redman II replied to Loiseau's topic in House Renovations
Washing up liquid rather than talc and I have known people who have used a pencil or round pen to stretch the hose a little. It helps if you can clamp the fitting in a vice or workmate so you have something firm to press against -
Cost of Made to Measure Door or Window
Anton Redman II replied to Rob Roy's topic in House Renovations
Both Vial and Lapeyre offer made to measure. The vial site has prices. Have you considered adjusting the opening to a standard size ? http://www.vial-menuiseries.com/menuiseries-bois-c14.html http://www.lapeyre.fr/accueil/exterieur.html -

My experience with the Peugeot is that France was cheaper than UK and that the service was clearly carried out. However I avoided the flash main dealers and went for a small local garage without receptionist.

If I was going to stop for fuel I would divert in Rouen and go to 'Tourville La Rivierre' Centre Commercial . The servce stations on the autoroute re a good 15 cents a litre dearer than the supermarkets and those on the recommended route through Rouen are almost as dear as the autoroute. The food selection is also chea[er and more varied. I would probably have a second break two hours later at any aire

The Vosges weighs 58 kilos, the marvellously named Balham is 121 Kilos. They do not give weights for their other stoves Strap to a big sack barrow, sangles at bottom so two big idiots can more it. Put 2.5 tonne trolley jeck underneath and move onto a platform with castors Depends what other work needs doing in terms of work on chimney liner etc. I would not buy it till I had sorted out somebody to install it.

UK happier than France? Opposite to Reality?
Anton Redman II replied to just john 's topic in Other Topics
The more French middle class that I meet the more depressed and worried they seem to be. Only know one member of the French Aristocracy and she seemed pretty happy. -
Price was for weekend not week and company does not have wide coverage of France.

Regularly to my wife's account. Giveaway is that it is addressed 'To The recipient'

I first read 'Vache Espagnol' in a pre war Leslie Charteris Saint short story. Even then we were warned that it was dated slang. On a very good day I can reply and think in French. Minor problem I do not have enough time to censor in French. 5 years ago pulled by the Gendarnes reply to could I speak French was ' Well enough for any questions you are likely to ask ' Spent the next ten minutes coping with more and more difficult questions about the car.

Remember you may also need a method of dropping the voltage to 110 volts as well.

A fair bit of the time the cars are still owned by the people who bought the car in the first place rather than the dealer them selves.

Anyone purchased any heating oil recently ?
Anton Redman II replied to Bugsy's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
Talk to your French neighbours. If you can sort out a delivery of say 10000 litres within a kilometre you should be able to drop the price by a cent a litre -

Kiloutou and Locomat are the biggest chains. Search in yellow pages on 'Location' then select 'Location de Materiel de Bricolage Kiloutout as below http://www.kiloutou.fr/Location/Location-Decoration/Location-Ponceuse-a-parquet-et-bois/Location-Ponceuse-parquets-3cv-220v

I thought there was a US France double taxation treaty. Link is about half way down the page : http://www.ubs.com/1/e/ubs_ch/bb_ch/custody/custody_account/double_taxation.html In any case I thought the default was declare 100 % and be allowed against tax the 30% you have already suffered but not repaid. If French tax would be 25% receive no rebate. If French tax 35% only pay extra 5 %

I am intrigued, I do not think Wikipedia is the be all and end all but it is probably better than a Marie in the sticks of which you already have concerns. I hope you never have to rely on the B.C. to ensure your daughter has any of the benefits of French citizenship. If you think you are correct about citizenship and right abode being conferred by birth in another EU country I would be grateful if you could post links to a more robust source.

Why do you think your child is a French Citizen by birth ? A child born to French parents resident in the Uk would not automatically be British. Wikipedia link below corresponds to my view. Suspect child either needs own UK passport or entry on parents. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_nationality_law
