  1. The CT report advises you of things which do not mean a failure or a return visit. The next list of items require a return visit within two months with the fault corrected.

The failure I had which was severe brake imbalance at the rear did not require the car to be low loaded and I could drive it to the garage to have it fixed before a contra visit.

Agree with separation of test and repair work
  2. freesat is UK free to view Satelitte TV.

freeview is UK free to air digital terrestrrial TV - french equivalant is TNT

If you have a dish in the UK then a properly aligned dish in France and your UK box will receive the same programes.

You will not receive freeview in France
  3. With a properly aligned Dish you will be able to watch the same HD programmes you can receive in the UK.

With a properly set up aerial you will be able to what French Digital TV some of which is HD.
  4. Concensus on net seems to be than life may be as short as two years in Southern Spain where large dishes, lots of sunshine and marginal reception mean any deterioration leads to regular replacement.

Equally loads of 10 year plus LNBs must be in use in Northern GB and Sky do not seem to inundated with calls about LNBs.

However everbody agrees performance can decrease with age or abruptly stop.

I would see what happens when weather cools down or sunspot activity decreases.
  5. One other thought if it is better first thing in the morning try cooling LNB with garden hose. If it improves LNB is nearing the end of its life. Check the sheaths on the cables are in good condition first though.
  6. De Gaulle brought in the legislation during the Algerian Civil War. Permission of the mother of the groom is needed. Main idea was to secure pension and inheritance rights where child was conceived prior to death of groom.
  7. Yes a Sky box does receiver channels from 29.5 degrees. For instance Classic FM is 0106. Last time I checked my set up was running quality of 80% and signal strength of 85% versus quality 100% and strenght 95% on the default transponder
  8. Where did you buy the bath ?

    What diameter is hole ?
  9. I suspect the missing channels are on Eurobird at 28.5 degrees East as opposed to the Astra satelites at 28.2 degrees. We are having trouble with Classic FM. If you look at the Lyngsat site you can check which satelte is used for your channels.

Current Atmospheric conditions probably not helping. You can at a risk to quality on other channels have you dish optimised for 28.5
  10. Sounds like he was trying to get his 11 hour break in so he could work normally next day.

    I think I would complain
  11. If it were my problem I would advertise, on one of the English language forums, for somebody with a UK registered car to tow it back to the UK.
  12. If somebody had a country cottage in say the Lake District in England and said they had Sat TV and I found all they had was French TV I might be a bit upset
  13. Broadly dealers have to account for VAT on the profit they make selling second hand cars not the full price. Attached note covers it in more detail

    https://www.alliance-leicestercommercialbank.co.uk/bizguides/full/usedcar/parkes-vat.asp

But the VAT they account for is not recoverable by a VAT registered business nor I suspect on export
  14. Old note about engine changes in France - written by me so I feel free to quote :

As in many things in France it can be done but you need Friends in Low Places and persistence. I have navigated a Renault 8 detailed as a Gordini with a Renault 16 engine and gearbox. I do not think that the 306s with the 407 V6 which were coming out of Scotland in small number 10 years ago would be on.

First case – Mini 850 to Mini 1275GT possible and easy provided everything else is changed and the manufacturer authorises the conversion.

Second case – BDA engine into Escort Mexico or RS 2000. Even though Ford may agree car never sold in France. See list of tests and weep

Third case – Manufacturer does not comment, test and inspections as listed.

Forth case – Manufacturers says no. So you cannot build a Merlin engine into a Silver Shadow estate

    Tidied up translation below :

    Change of engine (source http://www.aquitaine.drire.gouv.fr)

The change of engine and / or transmission on a vehicle is a delicate operation, which may have influence on safety: handling, Braking, impact resistance front. Prior to processing, the opinion of the vehicle manufacturer must be asked. Four cases can then occur:

    • The manufacturer authorizes the conversion of a vehicle type X, and states that the vehicle is consistent with a known model (if necessary after adjustment) type Z: the receipt as may be isolated granted. The fiscal power of the converted vehicle will be identical to that of known model sold in France

    • The manufacturer authorizes the conversion, but the vehicle does not comply fully converted to the model-known as a single receipt can be given, but the power Tax will be recalculated. It will probably be higher than the known model.

    • The manufacturer does not comment on the conversion, the application will be forwarded to the Division of Technical Controls DRIRE for consideration. Specific tests can then be applied (such as brake tests by a laboratory recognized as UTAC)

    • The manufacturer is opposed to the transformation. The conversion will not be registered.

Records to be filed with the Prefecture

    • Printed CERFA registration application, completed and signed.

    • A cheque for the current price (to be given when presenting the vehicle to DRIRE).

    • Description of specific changes.

    • Registration document for the original car and a photocopy

    • Proof of the origin engine and / or transmission (eg, certificate of destruction of the vehicle type Y whose elements are derived, invoice detailing Engine the type and number of engine and / or transmission as well as the trade name of vehicle it was mounted (eg, BX 15, 405SRI) or type Y)

    • The technical advice of the manufacturer detailing all the changes to be made to adapt the engine and / or transmission of the Y type, and whether the vehicle type is X or not conform to a design already approved type Z.

    • A certificate issued by transformer (on company letterhead stating the name and title of signatory) confirming that the transformation was performed according to the rules of art and requirements set by the vehicle manufacturer

    • Descriptive notes the types of vehicles before (Type X) and after processing (type Z), if the original engine and / or transmission (type Y)

    • A ticket to control emissions of pollutants, accepted (eg performed in a technical control centre for light vehicles).

    • A report of noise control, established by a brigade of technical control of the national police, accepted

    • Prove control the suppression by the technical services of broadcast service France, accepted (unless the new diesel engine)

•Figures for corner weights of the unladen vehicle

    • If the vehicle has more than 4 years, copies of minutes (initial and additional after change) Controlle Technique(MOT)

    Note:

A metal plate bearing the information below should be riveted to the plate near the original manufacturer manufacturers plate.

    Make

    Model

    VIN Number

    Reason for Change

    Date

DIMENSIONS: 10 x 7 cm CHARACTERS: The minimum height 4 mm brand, type and serial number (VIN) will be those contained in the vehicle registration current.

The date will be the RTI appointment made for the presentation of the vehicle to DRIRE

  15. Have you ever had anything set up on a rolling road ?

Never seen anything with an A series which has not had a significant improvement in torque. Anything with an SU carburetor can have both the size and shape of the needle changed. Changing the taper does make a difference accross the flow range and which does make a difference.

  16. Have you tried ringing up the owners club last time I went o a meat they were running Mazda engines
  17. Try the NSU

    80 Ro

    in france

  18. Suggest you sort out air travel first.

We were shocked at how expensive Tunisia was a destination from France versus last minute from UK
  19. If you buy the Jaguar apply for and get the C of C sent to a UK address or insist the dealer gets it. Free from J UK € 200 from J France.
  20. There are plasters about but as above almost all work is dry lining.

Cotisation - French equivalent of NIC is very un start up friendly
  21. I have not found one. The reasons so many new builds in France are unrendered is that the proprietors wait two years so that it is rated as a repair at 5.5 %
  22. Mercury did for the hatter but it is March and hormones that do for the hares
