  1. Since it is being presented as a 'War' against the virus perhaps they will issue War Bonds https://www.investopedia.com/terms/w/warbonds.asp
  2. To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell Had we but world enough and time, This coyness, lady, were no crime. We would sit down, and think which way To walk, and pass our long love’s day. Thou by the Indian Ganges’ side Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide Of Humber would complain. I would Love you ten years before the flood, And you should, if you please, refuse Till the conversion of the Jews. My vegetable love should grow Vaster than empires and more slow; An hundred years should go to praise Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze; Two hundred to adore each breast, But thirty thousand to the rest; An age at least to every part, And the last age should show your heart. For, lady, you deserve this state, Nor would I love at lower rate.        But at my back I always hear Time’s wingèd chariot hurrying near; And yonder all before us lie Deserts of vast eternity. Thy beauty shall no more be found; Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound My echoing song; then worms shall try That long-preserved virginity, And your quaint honour turn to dust, And into ashes all my lust; The grave’s a fine and private place, But none, I think, do there embrace.        Now therefore, while the youthful hue Sits on thy skin like morning dew, And while thy willing soul transpires At every pore with instant fires, Now let us sport us while we may, And now, like amorous birds of prey, Rather at once our time devour Than languish in his slow-chapped power. Let us roll all our strength and all Our sweetness up into one ball, And tear our pleasures with rough strife Through the iron gates of life: Thus, though we cannot make our sun Stand still, yet we will make him run.
  3. Perhaps she is a moaner too, but he doesn't get that far with her...
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if they took 10% out of savings accounts as happened in Cyprus a while ago https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-21814325
  5. I now use this on my phone https://media.interieur.gouv.fr/deplacement-covid-19/
  6. "I did read somewhere that France, to free up storage space, both burned and exported to China 'ppe' they figured they wouldn't need. No doubt they hoped that one would be kept under wraps." Whereas: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/22/revealed-private-firm-running-uk-ppe-stockpile-was-sold-in-middle-of-pandemic
  7. "As regards UK, the problem seems to be NHS bureaucracy." What is the evidence for that?
  8. The contrast with Germany could not be more striking: " The virus is still far from defeated, and no one knows what challenges lie ahead for Germany, or the rest of the world. But judging by Merkel’s approach—her rigor in collating information, her honesty in stating what is not yet known, and her composure—she may someday be remembered not as Germany’s greatest scientist, but as its scientist in chief: the political leader who executed, celebrated, and personified evidence-based thinking when it mattered most. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2020/04/angela-merkel-germany-coronavirus-pandemic/610225/
  9. I thought we oldies were being kept under lock and key till the end of the year ...if we survive that long. And as for the 11 mai... Le 11 mai, c'est pas gagné... https://www.france.tv/france-5/direct.html
  10. Even the Tory Press have  something to say about the failings to anticipate and provide proper equipment From the Times https://archive.is/20200418182037/https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-38-days-when-britain-sleepwalked-into-disaster-hq3b9tlgh and the Telegraph  https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/03/28/exercise-cygnus-uncovered-pandemic-warnings-buried-government/
  11. I have been describing the place as it is for years...
  12. Some more:https://www.thoughtco.com/english-singulars-and-french-plurals-1368945 There are also all those words that are plural in English but singular in French:jeans, trousers, pants etc.. the family and the police, but that is a cheat as in English those words can be either depending on how you are thinking of them..
  13. I watched one of them and you are right...it was however tinged with a hint of jealousy and regret as when I came to France it was almost 50/50 with  settling in Berlin, but I thought that Germany would be too expensive ...[:'(]
  14. As I said in my first reply ASK A NOTAIRE. They deal with inheritance and its consequences  and property  sales, and THEIR ADVICE IS FREEunlike lawyers! Why oh WHY are people muddying the waters?? Does anyone bother to read previous replies and think about them??

  17. It is very difficult at the moment with the confinement, but remember  that Notaires have to give free advice. They can only charge for acting. They are not like Solicitors in this regard. I would try to get a telephone interview with one (English speaking if necessary)

    Bursitis

At the moment in France NSAIDs and cortisone are considered to increase the risk of a bad reaction to the Covid virus and it is recommended NOT to take them. This is not entirely the case in the UK, but I thought I should mention it. Paracetamol  ...for lower back pain my Kiné prescribed a Tens machine which I was able to get from the Pharmacie.. Sorry not to be more helpful
  19. I don't think there is a 'c' in it."des  Arrhes" I thihk.. Good to see you are on form

  21. She might have realised that 'the problem with Capitalism is that you start running out of other people's labour'[6]I think that the balance between local and outsourced products, especially things of strategic importance such as medicines will have to be re-considered, as will   the relative remuneration of work and investments. I think we oldies may have to pay much more for  the things we need   the young to do for us. Those who deliver the things we have ordered on line  should be properly employed, not in the disgraceful conditions imposed by American bully firms such as Amazon On deliveries there has already been an expansion of local deliveries by local producers here in Béziers, https://www.ville-beziers.fr/fileadmin/user_upload/maj_liste_1604.pdf

  23. The figures in French EHPADS make grim reading:https://www.gouvernement.fr/info-coronavirus/carte-et-donnees but are included in the total as can be seen on the site above. The three numbers in RED are for a total, and deaths in  Hospital and separately in EHPADSAt the  time of writing the total was 17167   Hospital 10,643; and EHPAD 6524 The UK does not include these in its total, so a comparison of figures of deaths would be misleading. There is also a tendency to distinguish between "death from" and death with" . The second category are not counted as Covid deaths.
  24. Apart from the element of risk that is involved in going to the shops, my life continues very much as normal. I spend 23 hours a day alone at home in intellectual and scholarly activity, rather like a monk without the religious obligations[:)]
  25. a French court ruled it was not doing enough to protect its workers in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic
