So Blair stands to pick up 10 million plus his pension when he stands down. Reckon he'll give it to the pensioners whose funds the government ruined? Or the pensioners in the commonwealth whose state pensions are frozen? Not on your nelly.

My dear Dick, I gave up grammar and punctuation the day I stopped teaching English Language for a living! However to be pedantic, I would suggest this might be a legitimate stylistic device in keeping with a relaxed approach in the forum, also suggesting something of the writer's attitude to the get-it-while-you-can type of politician we seem to have these days. In parallel with a cartoon say.

Strictly speaking, he should have had his title too or at least a first name I suppose but then some politicians dont(sic) seem to be given these. Apostrophes are altogether another matter. D' we really need 'em? Ive n open mind.

What, respectfully, twaddle.

A little twaddle is good for you. Anyway, one man's twaddle is another man's point.

You must be marking essays and feeling grumpy. What brings you back from the marsupial world?

I fear the answers to those questions, my dear Dick, may lie in very murky waters and that you may end up distinctly egg faced and tilting at windmills. However if you need a Sancho Panza to hold your armour then I am your man.
Tag, if you are going to be rude about people about whom you know very little, have the common courtesy to use a capital letter for their name, eh?

(And an apostrophe - Blair's)

Generally speaking I am, the Iraq disaster aside, quite pleased with much that the Blair government has done. It has to be admitted though  that their record on pensions is pretty awful. In the last budget, the income tax increase on the more lowly paid hit pensioners too. The effect is not what one would expect from a 'socialist' government. In my family, for example, my income tax has gone up and my son, whose income is very much in excess of mine, has gone down.

I do hope that this is a case of in vino obscurantis. Still, it's always nice to be patronised. You're lucky I'm not a moderator.

Quite right Hoddy.......after Mr Brown had his say ....I got a small increase in my OAP and then  a tax hike that leaves me worse off  by  £30 a month !   so much for looking after the retired .Its just another raid on my occupational pension and capital by these so called socialists . as far as I am concerned ..................I feel for those old people who are less fortunate than we are ......the little old ladies who will go without a meal in order to pay a guy to mow their lawn to keep up apperances  as they dont want the neighbors to know how they have now fallen on hard times ... and I have met them......... as they have been referred to me as a welfare officer for a Community Service Club we may be able to help ......I have been retired and  in my house in Dorset 15 years and the council tax  has gone from  £550....to £1789.92 . no wonder some OAPs are prepared to go to jail ......................rant over !!!

It's not just the retired though, Frederick. The people who I'm even more angry for are those people who are earning the minimum wage or a little above it who've been hit by this too.

Cooperlola you're right they're not socialists, but I voted for them thinking that they might be a little more caring of the less well off than the other lot. What a mistake.
Moi aussi, Hoddy!  Mind you, looking back, I'm not sure I could have voted for the other lot either.  But then, I really am a Socialist.
